I've got a 285 on my Rota GTRs which are 10 wide at the rear and these sit perfectly flush. Aside from the fact that those 12'' wheels stick out proper barryboy style (and are in fact illegal in doing so), a wheel which is 2 inches wider really ought to have slightly wider tyres on it. The fact that many tyre manufacturers specifically state that 285 tyres must only be fitted to a maximum width of 11 inches must surely also be a factor. But then again, each to their own. In terms of having the wheel stick out like that it's not an issue, the law is concerned with where the tyre tread is - and whether or not it's covered by the arches.
