Gear Box

Hi, I hava 350z and feel there is something not quite right with the clutch. The car has done 8000k. I have spoken to Nissan Guildford about the problem who assure me that it is a 350z problem and quite normal. When I am in 1st gear at low revs and pull away the car hesitates(jerks or shudders slightly) until the revs are increased. Of all the cars I have owned only one has done that and I was advised it was a clutch disc problem. Nissan say because the Gear box in the 350z is a racing gear box this is quite normal.

If anybody has any ideas about the above problem as the car is still under warranty I would be very grateful/

Sounds wrong to me. Mine doesn't do that... from what I can remember... it's been so long since I drove my Z (five weeks!).

My advice is DON’T BL- -DY well believe a word they say. Check everything out. The Service Manager at my main dealer, told me on two occasions that the tyre noise I had was due to the Bridgestone’s fitted. I found out later from one of the techs in the garage that they have to say this unless a copy of the USA Tyre Feathering technical Bulletin is produced. Ask them for a letter to that effect, that you can show to a prospective buyer and see their reaction.

i think it may be your driving technique , too low revs and any car judders, the z needs more revs than most, when i stepped up from a corolla to my zed i was getting a bit of that juddering also , in the corolla the car would normally take off fine without me even using the acclerator pedal , i adjusted my ways and have never had that problem again

saying that if you unsure get you garage at least to check it

I think I know what you are refering too here as mine has been the same from new. When I pull off in first gear, normally at about 1200-1500 rpm, there is a slight judder which to me feels like its coming from the diff. I've put it down to the LSD and have not mentioned it to my dealer - maybe I should, what do you think.

Yes, he did find that there was a slight shuddering when gently pulling away. As the car is still under warranty they have asked me to book it in for a couple of days. He believes it might be that at idle revs about 650rpm, the car is idling it bit low. We did drive a brand new one to compare and what a difference(very smooth). Hopefully they will find the problem and sort it out..Fingers crossed!!

Bear in mind that for anything well certainly later than an 04, it is not possible for Nissan to adjust the idle - even with Consult

idles that low anyway with the aircon off. Find it to low myself and always keep the aircon on to keep the tickover higher. Also helps prevent anything seizing up on the aircon anyway.

Had my car 3 weeks - ditto. My previous S2000 (also has an LSD) was exactly the same. I've found that a few extra revs and its OK. Negotiating speed bumps is the worst.

Must say the clutch on the car isnt the easiest there is to "play" with when driving off in 1st. Took me some time to get used to. Its pretty much "all or nothing" compared to other cars i drove.
