osmononame
Hi, I've had my 350z for a little over a year now. Shortly after I got it I noticed it was crunching when going into 6th gear - searching here I found this was quite common and it was recommended to change out the gearbox oil - which I did. The crunching never went away but I lived with it until a few weeks ago when I noticed that if I accelerated hard to say 5/6k in 3rd gear - when I let off I would hear a 'thud thud thud' sound. As soon as gas is applied the sound would go away. I took it to my local garage who had a look at it and they reckon it's the gearbox that needs replacing. I'm a bit tight for cash just now so this is the last ting I needed but is there anything I should have my mechanic check to make sure 100% it is the gearbox? thanks,
elfman
Not sure about the thudding But i'd say the synchro's are going in the box, you can either get them refurbed or the box changed. Had my box changed this year as 5th went and 2nd wasn't to far behind. If you go for another box get the most recent the 009 (iirc) as it has better synchro's. other than that could be the clutch? what does that feel like? after could be chattering clutch or fly due to wear? Just wondering what the cost of that was? I was having small issues with 5th and then 2nd, but after changing the oil it seems ok again - possibly only a matter of time though. Jayp350z
I saw a gearbox on eBay not too long ago. It was 400 quid and had done about 20k, no idea what year it came from or if it's any good for that matter, but maybe worth a look. Otherwise u could see if any other zeds have had an accident recently and maybe make them an offer on the gearbox.
