George Dredd Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Or anyone that dares admit they have one, I know they are a bit crap but it has helped me out from time to time, anyway I just wondered if anyone has the latest disk and would be willing to burn me a copy if its possible. Thanks Quote
George Dredd Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 I know, I know, I'm just trying to make it slightly less crap by getting the maps updated as Nissan wanted about 240 quid for the disk, I don't even know if its possible to use a copied disk, so if anyone can shed some light I'd be grateful. Anyone? Hello? Quote
Peter10 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I've heard they can be bought on eBay for far less, never tried one though. They will probably be an encrypted disc, so a simple burnt copy from a computer won't do much. To be honest, I've never had a problem with my Birdview system. I like the original stereo system too, so the hassle of changing the satnav will be a pain in the rear... Quote

I have a feeling that the Bird View is installed in a few other Nissans so it's worth checking compatibility. Pete Quote
Triumph Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 When I bought my car in 2009 I found some discussion threads saying that the disk could get scratched in the reader and eventually stop working. the recomendation at the time was to copy the disk, save the original and use the copy. You need a DVD+RW DL drive but any Data Copy software works. The DVD is used for high capacity storage and is not encrypted like a movie. I made a copy which works fine. The original is stored safely. If anyone gets updated maps from one of the various cheap websites I'd be interested to know if they work OK as I'm thinking of taking my car down to Italy for a while. Hope this helps, Lee. Quote
George Dredd Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Hi triumph, is there any chance I could have a copy of yours then? Or is it not a Birdview? Quote
Peter10 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 So are all Nissan DVD discs universal? This website pinged up top of the list on Google for "2011 Nissan Sat Nav Disc" looks too good to be true... http://www.satnav-updates.com/index.php ... 69676dc0d5 hmm Quote
JetSet Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I think someone bought a disk from there a few months ago. EDIT...Thought so viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45604&p=671669&hilit=satnav+disk#p671669 Pete Quote
Peter10 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I assume it worked & they never had their bank account emptied? Quote
JetSet Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I assume it worked & they never had their bank account emptied? Yeah, seems everything was O.K (see my edit) Pete Quote
Peter10 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Cheers. I'll give it a go, I can't afford a whole new sat-nav unit at the moment, and I quite like the original (*ducks* ). Quote
