Why does my insurance say "Import 2003-"?

When I typed in my registration number to insure my 54 plate 350Z, the model came up as "350Z IMPORT 2003 -". At another site it came up as "Fairlady Z (350Z)".

This seems to imply the car's an import, but there's no mention of it on the V5, the car was sold by a UK Nissan dealership with 5 miles on the clock, and the chassis number is the usual UK standard etc.

Does it sound like there's an error somewhere, or is it normal for insurance companies to refer to the car by those names?

Cheers!

i think some of the insurance companies are a little vague when it comes to the Zed.

i think mine showed us a fairlady on confused.com, but is a 350z gt everywhere else.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. It was confused.com that called mine a Fairlady Z. Aviva correctly called it 350Z GT.

insurance companies are a nightmare! I was with tesco on my previous car, not only did they NOT have a Zed on their list of cars they wanted to charge me 2k! Yeah ok........... As long as you have the uk spec and all is how it seems that's fine but make sure your insurer change it to what it should be so you are not paying any extra.

Left hand side.

My indicator stalks are on the left also .. and I have a UK Zed.

In my experience imports have the indicator stalks on the right-hand side ... I wouldn't worry, just make sure that the insurers are aware that it's a UK Spec Zed ... you'll probably save some money too!

Thats correct, its a right pain swapping from Uk cars to my Zed, keep putting the windscreen wipers on instead of the indicators

LoL ... I had the same problem when I changed from my FTO to my Zed ... thought I would never get used to it as all my previous cars were imports .. but after a month or two i was alright ...

I've had similar problems with online insurance quotes ... especially comparison websites ...

personally speaking, I would speak to an insurance specialist for a car like the 350Z. Whilst not meaning to knock price comparison sites as they are good for some things, they are set up for standard UK cars.
