AndyRigby Posted November 15, 2009 Share Posted November 15, 2009 I have a problem with my 350z and it wont start. AA think its ECU related so needs to go into a garage. Are there any good specialists in the NW who have the correct equipment and will properally diagnose the problem instead of just swapping out ECU's etc first because its easier (ive had this in the past!)? Thanks for the help though But how do you know that especially when you state the AA only think its ecu related. An ecu failure is very rare on these cars. The reset does not only remove the light. If this was my car i would at least be trying an ecu reset as outlined, you have nothing to lose and only takes a few minutes. Therefore it is not visable to flash etc. It would appear the body ECU which controls everything bar the engine is fine, and for some reason the ECU for the engine is not enabled - either because it is broken, or more likely because it has not got the OK from the immobiliser to work. When the ignition is set to 'ON' neither mine nor the AA's OBDC computer could connect to the ECU to check for faults. So the ECU is definately not powering up for whatever reason. No luck Keep us posted what Nissan comes back with, I wouldnt hand it in there now to be honest but if you are under some sort of warranty it makes sense? Not sure what a new ECU will set you back if it's fried, make sure to find the problem before you (Nissan) swap it out for a new one. Only thing I can think of is that it got shorted with etc water or corrosion on the harness connection but that’s a bit of a chance.
