Help on Buying an 350z import?

I was wondering if anyone could help me, im new here :)

Im looking to buy a used 350z import, but not sure if this would be a wise decision as the ones in my budget have done 35-65K miles.

As I only have a set budget to buy one, I know imports are alot cheaper to buy at the moment,

but was wondering if anyone could tell me how much it would cost to convert;

The Jap Sat Nav to a UK Sat Nav?

Add Rear Parking Sensors?

Possibly convert to leather seats?

And what other Mods would I need to do to it to make it live up to the UK road conditions and to my expectations as a young 22 year old driver?

Would appreciate any help from anyone.

Thanks

not sure what your budget is. I have an import and at the time i got mine I did so because I saved quite a bit of money and at the same time got a very low mileage car in the colour of my choice. Not so sure its as viable now or how much you would save.

the jap sat nav is useless and i think you have to start from scratch rather than convert.

don't know about rear parking sensors - i don't think the uk car has these either - someone correct me if i'm wrong - maybe they're an option?

leather - I had mine done for £400 but i got it done at trade price through my importer. you can get it done for about £500 usually.

oh, and you don't need to make any mods to bring it up to UK standard - they are the same car.

and :welcome:

Thanks for you quick reply and advice Nixy,

Ive seen import zed's for about £8500, some even less. Not sure whether to avoid these?

I thinking of putting aside £1000 to make mods to the car.

Is it true also, all imports are restricted to 112mph? can this be de-restricted? if so how much?

Anyone know how much a new Nissan Sat Nav will set me back or an good equivalent that fits snuggly in the unit?

Also ive read that the head unit systems on imports are rubbish, How much would it cost to upgrade to a decent system? and do the speakers need changing too?

And can the basic steering wheel be upgraded to the multi-function version?

Sorry about all the questions, you can tell im a complete newbie to the Zed's :D

Ok i will try my best to asnwer this. Like nixy i also have an import, Yes they are restricted and they can be se- restricted  i think it costs about £120 bucks. Why get a nissan sat nav when u can simply istall a uk version like tom tom in the dash ;) as for the head units amnot so sure as i fited an after market flip screen and never used the normal one. But i think it can cost anywhere in the region from 500 - 1200 but there are a few ice specialists on here who can help u with that. Hope this helps a little. Others no doubt be able to shed light on the subjects as well :D

my jap head unit was fine for cd playing just not radio obviously but i upgraded to an alpine ipod unit. Speakers are fine, don't need changing. Like jay said i have tomtom in the cubby hole. There isn't really a lot that needs doing on an import once its passed the SVA when it comes over as they are just the same after that.

Ah right, okay thanks for your help.

Anyone know about the reverse parking sensors? and the multi-function steering wheel upgrade?

I dont know about the sensors but i have the reversing camera which came with my zed. have to say has came in handy. As for the steering wheel wat are you looking for as the only difference is the cruise control button i think, which jdm obviously do not have. :) But hey who the hell wants cruise control in a zed unless ur gonna do wat nixy and i r gonna do when we are old and sit in the fast lane in the motorway at 10mph and hold up the traffic aswell as waving at them

don't know anyone with reverse parking sensors - anyone that needs those is probably in bed by now anyway! They might help you in the morning!

I don't have the multifunction steering wheel but if it means a lot to you look out for an import that has one - version T or ST. It's been mentioned on here somewhere before about changing the head unit and how that works with a multi function steering wheel but i'm not sure of the answer - I would imagine you can still get it to control a new head unit but I can't be sure - some of the others will know.

:welcome: Imo you are better off buying a uk GT spec Z. They are not a lot more expensive than JDM's and you could pick one up for around 10 grand with a few mods bolted on already. There's nothing wrong with cruise control, it can actually save your licence from a few speeding fines. :D I use it quite often when going along roads with speed cameras, and cruise down the motorways at 80mph ;) sometimes

You can't swap the steering wheels, well you can but the buttons won't work.

Defo get a uk car if you can as most of the stuff your asking about are standard or were options on a uk zed. Plus insurance on an import will be more expensive for you as a 22 yr old, which may negate any savings.....
