Fitting Aftermarket Hoses

Hi Guys,

 

I had some fun and games fitting my aftermarket coolant hoses at the weekend…. When fitting the new hoses I discovered that the aftermarket ones are thicker than the Nissan ones (i.e. the internal diameters are the same but the external diameters are slightly greater). I didn’t think this would be a problem….

 

So, before I clamped the new hoses in place I performed a 'trial fit’ to the various radiator and engine mounts and they fit perfectly. When I tried to use the OEM hose clamps I had to fully compress them and use plenty of WD40 (and cursing) to get the clamps on the new (thicker) hoses. Sadly the internal diameters of the new hoses were compromised (by the OEM clips) and would no longer fit over the engine / radiator mounts. I tried using mole grips to fully compress the clips but the inside of the new hoses were visibly out of shape.

 

Covered in grim at about 3pm on Sunday I took the bus to my nearest Halfords and bought some jubilee clips to mount the hoses. The three pipes are now fitted (and on nice and tight) but I'm worried about the pressure blowing a hose off...

 

Has anyone else fitted aftermarket hoses and how was the fit? Do you think the jubilee clips will do the job??

The jubilee clips should be fine, assuming they are tightened!

Martin W had a set of hoses fitted to his Zed at the last Envy South Mod day and aftermarket jubilee clips were used.

Remember someone asking Martin how much they were for a set and the reply was £5.

I have just had mine fitted wit the jubliee clips I don't think you will have any problems

What make of hose were you fitting? SPS? Samco?

 

Oh, and did you drain the whole system before starting? (I've been putting off fitting mine because of the need to refill and bleed the system)

My ones are the EX ESR stock - not Samco, but look exactly the same. I think I will get the samco hose clamps for peace of mind

 

 

Jim - Yes I did bleed the system, I put the front on axle stands as I was using a large bucket. If you had a tray or something more suitable to collect to the coolant the axle stands would not be required. I also found it easier to attack the lower hose from under the car but this will mean removing the plastic tray under the engine. I hope that helps!

Me too - sounds like a good plan.
