New York, New York..

Recommended Posts

I'm going to NY in November for my birthday and assumed that a fair few of people on here will have been before.

I'm looking for restaurant recommendation's please, somewhere nice for my birthday, and then just general things to make sure I don't miss attraction wise.

I like the look of the speedboat that goes round Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty but that might be too cold to do in November?

TIA

we got a really good deal on the helicopter which took us all the way up manhattan it was absolutely breath taking to see it from the air.

best tip is to go up the rockafellar building which is miles better than empire state because you dont queue and you get a better view of the city, mainly because your photos will have the empire state in them and it looks weird having pics of nyc without the most famous building in them.

food wise, we ate in lots of nice places but cant remember the names sorry mate. there is one place that stuck in my mind though...the hawaiian tropic club in times square...while you eat your food there is a bikini beauty pageant going on over a huge stage across the restaurant!!!! :p:P

i could ramble on for hours but im sure there will be loads of advice on here.

heartland brewery was nice in union square, they brew their own beers on site and do some crazy flavours.

the most amazing city in my opinion!! enjoy

Was there in August last year, used http://www.zagat.com/newyork for resturants, pretty spot on, went to Cafe Loupe in West Village which was great.

Also went to an italian place just off time square that did the biggest portions I have ever seen. Not a birthday place but was worth a visit just for the waiter experience... No menus, they just recite it too you!!

Spent a fair few hours in a bar off time square that was owned by Mohammed Ali's trainer, and had a beer with Ricky Hatton who happened to turn up for a chat with him... Which was nice! Trying to remember the name!

Stayed in the The Iroquois Hotel which I can highly recommend. Great location and everything you need.

Love the city and cant wait to go back!

Oh and get the ferry to statten island, makes it feel like your in a film! And your Mrs will get the Sex in the City feeling!!

Liam,

Been a couple of times. Once with the boys and once with the other half.

Going to a show on broadway is ace. Then walk up to The Stage Deli (quite near to Times Square) for some midnight food!

Top of the Rock is better than Empire state but I did both last time as you kinda have to do empire!

Don't waste your time going on to the island with the statue of liberty. It's better spent in battery park / financial district or the pier areas which are cool.

Walking over Brooklyn bridge is cool. China Town is worth a look as is little Italy. The village is nice and Washington Square has a real buzz about it.

Central park is nice and the hirse drawn carts is a nice way to see it.

Go to Times Square in the evening for the first time. It's like Vegas, looks better at night!

Hmmmmmm, I could go on and on to be honest!

Liam try this place

http://www.craftrestaurant.com/craftsteak_newyork.html

it's fantastic, a real treat if it's your birthday.

The place is amazing, and the staff are super friendly and really look after you!

It's got to be one of the best steak restaurants in the world!!

It's a little out the way, but just adds to the adventure (only five mins in a taxi from C Square, about $12)

We stayed at the London NYC last time we went, we eat there as well (Gordon Ramsey's restaurant) and it was crap!!

But if you haven't booked a hotel then you won't do much better, as good if not better than some of the five stars I've stayed in, really good location as well, a few blocks in front of central park and 2 min walk from times square.

Hope this helps mate.

Not sure to be honest. I normally eat where I fall! Never went to any fancy places.

You might laugh but maybe try the plaza or some of the mega fancy ones overlooking the park or something.

If you want more input give me a shout. I haven't done everything there but I have done a fair bit! Also, I can speak to Jaynes Dad (when he returns from holiday) as he works for a very upmarket travel agency specialising in America. They can get deals on very nice places!
