245/50 will fit then and although you have changed the rolling radius a bit I wouldn't expect there to be any traction control/stability issues. However, I'm not an expert and I'd get a second opinion from someone like Big Phil or Adam @ Z1. :thumbs:

If he is only changing the width and not the diameter why would the speedo reading change 235/50/17 to 245/50/17.

because the relative percentage between side profile and tread width alters the rolling radius therefore adjusting the gearing and ultimately the speedo reading, in this case not by any significant amount.

50% of 245 is more than 50% of 235! Simple.
