fuzboo Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Anyone want to have a stab at diagnosing this noise (asking a lot for a video shot in a B&Q carpark I know :P ). Idling at some lights last week I was looking around for the bus making the noise until I realised oh wait, that's me. From inside the cab it sounds exactly like a diesel, increases with revs (clutch in or out), and is accompanied by a laboured whine when you add revs (not heard in vid, doesn't sound like a belt). Doesn't do it from cold, only as it comes up to temp. No other symptoms, drives OK, no noticeable power loss. Definitely not the usual clutch chatter. I'm wondering.. exhaust manifold? fuzboo Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 And the winner is.. EVAP purge solenoid/valve pulsing, stethoscope revealed it to be the source. Going to replace it & see if it quietens down. For ref this has occurred on a 12 plate @ 46k miles. Quote

I’ve got the same on an 18 plate 18k I wouldn't worry too much, I also suffer this. Engine will sound silky smooth but when the valve starts working it sounds awful. You can actually feel the valve opening / closing in rhythm with the noise Quote
