Rear end clatter on bumps

I'd hoped my first proper post here wouldn't be on something like this...

 

So, I had an exceptionally ditsy moment pulling out of a service station. Filled up, fired her up, seatbelt on, start to gently pull forwards, check left and right for any other over-eager buggers racing out of the pumps.

 

Only problem is, when I was doing that last bit, as the car went forwards, the edge of a kerb crept under the bonnet line and out of sight, and when I looked back straight forwards, I assumed I was driving onto a flat piece of road towards the exit. Er, wrong.

 

Car goes straight up and down over the now hidden kerb,  both the front and the back wheels, with a satisfying series of bangs. ****.

 

Nothing was damaged superficially and I drove on, but I noticed that there was a very mild clattering, squeaking sound over bumps coming from the rear, and what I kind of think feels like a little less composure from the car over the rough stuff.

 

Now I actually was fuelling the car up to take her to be MOT'd, and as you'd expect I asked my mechanic to have a look over to see if I'd ruined anything. He had the car up on the lift and says it's fine, no suspension play or anything, but the noise continues to persist, and was particularly noticeable today on a drive home.

 

Definitely think I'll have to take her in again, but might anyone have a clue on what might have gone - if anything so that I can point the mechanic in the right direction? My car already clunked a bit on clutch releases on harder shifts, so I don't know if there's something there pre-existing that I've worsened.

 

I have already arranged for myself to receive 40 lashes for this most idiotic of errors

I have got a mysterious clunck no one can find! Taken it to a 350,370 GTR  specialist as well. Sometimes is a case of trial and error by replacing things that may not be the issue .. my next bit to replace are some bearing at the top on my springs or something

The first thing that bottoms out tends to be the exhaust.  This might also explain why the mechanic saw no obvious damage.

Try rattling the rear box by hand and also the heat shielding.

I had to take my backbox heatshield off since it was clattering about, it managed to break itself free on a couple of the bolts and the noise was irritating so i got rid of it xD

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the backbox or the shield are out, i got under the car and gave them a good thump and a rattle and they’re as secure there as the day they were fitted.

 

Clunk sounds a bit too deep to be an exhaust, and whilst I can’t quite put my finger on it, I’m sure the ride is a lot more fidgety than it is usually. Going quicklyish round a relatively flat car park ramp in Westfield and the car just isn’t settling down as much as would be expected.

 

Defo off to the garage methinks, I just hope I haven’t broken anything pricey! Me = class A idiot...

I had a similar noise and it turned out to be the diff mounts, the front one was in vet poor condition. It might be worth a look.

You know you may very well be right mate....the car does clunk and thump from the rear on hard shifts, and my mechanic mate (who was riding in the car with me at the time) thought it might be a diff issue.

 

I’ll have him look at it, and upgrade to solid mounts in there if needed.

 

Apparently my other regular mechanic thinks there’s nothing mechanically wrong with the Z (but he did pick up on a noisy second gear shift....I had to tell him it was a Z trademark LOL)
