oil filler cap unscrewing its self

okay guys iv waited two weeks to post this as at first I thought i was going nuts .

 

i check my oil level every few days and top up once a week to keep it at max.

 

a couple of times iv gone to losen the oil filler cap only to find its already loose even though i do it up tight everytime.

 

just been out to clean the car and top up the oil as I've been on a long run today only to find the cap was practicaly fully undone basically on its last thread.

 

any ideas as to whats going on ?

Is the O ring/rubber washer hard? could be that its no longer keeping the cap from vibrating loose. try replacing it.

Couldn't remember if its a rubber washer or O ring, but i would try a plumbers merchant.

You might need a new cap, or maybe you're just over tightening it? Also, make sure you're not spilling oil around the top of the oil filler when topping up.

I had this problem too, it turned out to be the cap. I got a new cap and all is well again

Replacement/better oil caps are very cheap and better than the OEM one.

I get the opposite. Can't undo the bloody thing. End up getting a mallet and screw driver to do the job.
