ZedManTID Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Well I royally fudged up and let my beloved zed run low on oil thought I had dodged a bullet by topping up just in time... 2 weeks later and the bottom end starts knocking. Gutted to say the least! Anyway, putting the feelers out for a well maintained and low mileage DE engine if anyone can help. Thanks Edited February 8, 2016 by ZedManTID
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Sorry to hear that! How about rebuilding yours? Safest way to go...
ZedManTID Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) Thanks Adrian. What cost would I be looking at for a rebuild compared to a second hand engine? Japex have advised I just get hold of a new lump Edited February 8, 2016 by ZedManTID
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Depends what's damaged and if you want standard OEM components or forged. Hopefully the crank is not damaged, that will be a bit more expensive and a bit difficult to source brand new. If you're looking to keep the car for a few good years, personally I'd keep the original engine and rebuild it. You'll enjoy the car for longer without anymore trouble, rather than buying an engine with unknown history that could run into the same problem. 2
ZedManTID Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Guess a rebuild makes sense if affordable Better do some research! 2
-Bradders- Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Search my thread lol or darrenb off here i believe is selling hes freshley rebuilt block 1
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016
Guess a rebuild makes sense if affordable Better do some research!
Have you got a garage/shed? Why not try to do this in your spare time, save some money and learn a lot more about the car itself. I can help with absolutely all the parts required, there are plenty of resources online for how to remove the engine, strip it and rebuild it Nothing is impossible, or everything is impossible until you do it
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Look, here's the engine workshop manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/350Z/coupe/2005/em.pdf 1
ZedManTID Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Car needs to be back on the road asap, it's my daily. Would genuinely welcome the challenge if i had the time and space. All I can do is cautiously throw money at this one 1
-Bradders- Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Id say speak to darren then he tried to sell me it but i had already began the rebuild and wanted the piece of mind that id seen the quality of the work done myself in person!
Adrian@TORQEN Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 That's sold already. It's been supercharged and we will fit it end of the month on the customer's car 1
-Bradders- Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Heres whats involved http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/104807-alast-the-work-has-begun-take-a-look/ 1
ZedManTID Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Thanks Bradders. I'll be leaving this one to trusted professionals. Time is not on my side! 1
-Bradders- Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Thats not me doing the build, it's a trusted professional lol.. i just stand around watch and take pics haha
ZedManTID Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Aha, you'll be in a better position then to confirm the costs involved Waiting for a quote from Japex at the moment. How much is this rebuild setting you back roughly? Edited February 11, 2016 by ZedManTID 1
-Bradders- Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 around 3k i hope with labour. but i'm having the gearbox done too! parts shipped from US are £1300 odd + import. delivered. plus labour and other parts like heads skimmed, crank reground etc.. 1
ZedManTID Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Nice one. I looked at the rebuild packs from the states so glad to know they do the job if I do go down that route 1
cascade88 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Out of curiosity how low did you let the oil level drop?
ZedManTID Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 4mm left on the dipstick when I topped up. Pretty sure now it was burning oil. I remember checking the level about 3 weeks before. 2/3 full then and it hasn't leaked
ZedManTID Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 Engine on route. Mods please close this thread 1
veilside z Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 We got a good one from Clark Motorsport a couple of months back. 1
TT350 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 In the same boat. Rebuilding with a fully forged bottom end. Torqen has sorted me out with the parts.
