Short Shifter issues ?

Alologies if posted in wrong section..Admin, please move if this is the case.

 

I have my 05 Z and it has a short shifter fitted and a very heavy/weighted gear knob , my issue is i am finding it very tight and on occasions a struggle to get it into gear, especially from 5th - 6th. Clutch itself is absolutely fine, its a stage one.

 

Is this common with the short shift ? Are they not worth having in comparision to standard ?

With some shifters you have to file a small section off the shifter aperture.

 

However 5th to 6th is usually only a shifter plate adjustment.

This is good news.. I don't suppose there is a link of a how to etc that anyone is aware off ?

Yeah the problem I had was getting into reverse so looked where the shifter was catching an filed away it didn't solve it 100% but just using the shifter it filed it away by itself. It does sound more like the shifter plate isn't aligned right if it's 5th to 6th

I do prefer the gear change having now driven a standard Z with short shift. Will enjoy it even more once i take it apart and see what the issue is with gate :-)
