Gearbox on its way to Heaven...

cars on 50k. '04 model.

 

the gearbox for a while now has crunched when i change gear at over 4k RPM from 4th direct to 6th.

Fine, i will take 5th instead.

 

now its doing it from 4th into 5th at high rpm.

if i drop the clutch and wait for the rpm (and gearbox) to stop spinning it goes in fine.

 

 

i'll go and check the oil level in the box. but assuming thats fine ( im not aware of a leak) then is this a terminal box and a ebay one required, or is it most cost effective to get a new synco ? ( i assume thats what it is).

 

ive never had a gearbox go before....

My box crunched all the way through snetterton and brands hatch in 3-5 similar to you, bennett gt4z has just replaced his syncros and baulk rings.

Said its like new, £600 fitted?

If you get a recon/ used box it may do the same?

If syncros are crunching is it harming the actual gear cogs?
