  1. I visited RS Tuning on Wednesday and they tried to read the ECU.

Its only a small place but there is a 4-post lift, Dyno and all the gear. Clean too which is noce. It looks like they do quite a few of the usual suspects but seem rather keen on Renault as a speciality. No comment on that for now I think. Anyway they come across as very friendly and capable people which does engender confidence (sorry Guys, i missed getting your names).

The software requires a dump of the ROM which is sent off and patched to allow further tuning to be done. What the software can do looks pretty good and there shoudl be plenty of scope for decent tuning once everything is up and running.

Anyway, the software wasn't playing ball. It identified my ECU as a C700 but the software resolutely refused to dump it out, even though it said that the security status was ok and the ecu was ready. This seemed possible to be that it only had about 5 different security codes on file (JDM, 2 EU variants, a rev-up and a post 2006), We tried to crack the ECU security and that went well - but then .net crashed and the codes were lost. There were some mutterings about Vista so we switched to an XP laptop, and tried again but at this point I didn't have enough time left to wait for the full cracking program to run as it takes about 20 minutes.

There was some talk that the software wasn't allowing a dump because it already had a C700 ROM on file, but that seemed a bit thin to me. Personally I reckon it just needs to crack the security code first to get proper access and it's a shame I ran out of time to allow them to take a second go at it. I think they are going to get in touch with the manufacturer for some advice just to be sure.

Guys, if no-one else has been able to get to Leeds by next week I can come again on Tuesday 12th if that helps. keep us informed.

    Cheers

    Chris

  2. I need to get a selection of cars in to read the ECU's. Make sure all the software is supported and if not send them off for patching.

So if anyone is passing :)

can be there at about 4 - 4.30pm today if you are quick as i have to be away form Leeds before the rush hour starts!

  3. Pardon my stupidness :bangin: , but what do these do? :teeth:

Improve delivery of air to the front two cylinders which are a little starved by the standard plenum chamber design.

The engine runs more efficiently and you get a noticeable shift of torque down the rev band, which is nice :)

  4. Just a quick post to big-up Revolution who are only a few miles away from my house.

I needed a P2 and being in the NE with ESR sadly gone and the new northern Envy not quite there yet, where to go? Revolution did an oil+filter change (Millers used as standard) for just under £90 and had a good look round the car for any problems too. Ok so I didn't need a lot looking at but a labour cost of just under £40 an hour is pretty helpful.

Revolution specialise in sporty cars so I`m happy they are not just monkeys who can't wait to razz round the back-streets ("it needed a road test" - yeah, right). They are very friendly and offered a brew, and you can see the mechanics through a window into the garage and watch them work :) They also have a LOT of alloys in stock which is nice for a bit of window shopping.

Oh and they quoted under £250 for the labour to change my clutch and fly :)

Nice one lads, I said I`d tell everyone I was happy with the job

  5. A man was sitting in the bar in departures at a busy airport. A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him. So he decides because she's got a uniform on, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant.

So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly.

He leans across to her and says the Delta Airlines motto 'We love to fly and it shows'.

The woman looks at him blankly. He sits back and thinks up another line.

He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto 'Winning the hearts of the world'.

Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.

Undeterred, he tries again, this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto 'Going beyond expectations'.

The woman looks at him sternly and says 'What the f*** do you want?'

'Ah!' he says, sitting back with a smile on his face......'Ryanair '

  6. How many miles has your car done budddy? It's a long shot but if you've done >50k on the original spark plugs they could need replacing... Otherwise you may need to bite the bullet and get a specialist / dealer to look at the car.

    Good luck.

I agree, that's well worth a look. Engines can rev fine under no load but the spark can break down under heavy load. Whip out a plug and take a look at it, they really shoudl all be changed at 50K but they will be getting crappy at about 40K.

  7. Saw one at a dealer for 17K, low mileage but the gearbox was like a bag of spanners in a tumble-drier. Dealer could not find paperwork so left it there.

Tried to buy a private black then a private chilli but way too late. Ended up buying an Azure GT with 26K for a bit under £16K (yeah well that was when they were worth more than they are now!). Lovely, except a few interior scratches.

  8. Mine has exactly the same problem, although I`ve only gone as far as looking at the alignment,

I fitted new tyres but that made no difference.

I find it depends on the road and is affected by the camber more than anything, although I have a *slight* pull to the lefty under *very* heavy breaking (I have to fight it to the right a little). I did wonder if I had a very slightly sticky brake on the left but having changed pads and discs thsi wasn't the case.

    I just live with it!

  9. So how much do you get to a tank now?

I average just under 30mpg so that's 500 miles per tank, although I rarely run it as low as I did that time.

On the 95 it was about 2mpg less. If you calculate that the 97 fuel costs about 4p more per litre it makes the price per mile nearly a penny less. Um, ish. Not scientificly accurate but near enough that i don't bother with the cheap stuff :0
