1. One last question: my error code was 4-2-10. Anyone know whether that means 420 or 430? Thanks, Mal.
2. Ooops, meant to say CEL in the title, not ECU. Also, an update: I got it to work, so I must've done something right. However, the flashing sequence never ended - it just kept on repeating, fast and then slow and then fast again. Is this normal? Cheers, Mal.
3. Hi all, I recently had the engine light come on on my Zed - steady, not blinking - and am trying to get the pedal dance going so I can diagnose and reset it. I've not managed it yet, but there are a couple of things in the instructions I'm not sure I've understood properly. 1. Turning the key to ON The very first bit of the instructions says to turn the key to ON. Does this mean turning it completely (just as when starting the car), such that if I let go of the key, it would move away from the ON position? And if so, do I therefore have to hold the key in that position for the full duration on the reset procedure? 2. When to release the pedal for the flashes and code To get the CEL blinking, the instructions say to "fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking". So, I take my foot off the pedal as soon as it starts blinking? Thing is, the next instruction -- after the blinks -- says to release the pedal... but I've already done that. It then says to wait 10 seconds, but doesn't say when those 10 seconds start -- is it "wait for 10 seconds after the blinking stops" or "wait for 10 seconds after you've released the pedal"? If the latter, I presume the blinking is going on while I'm counting the 10 seconds? Sorry for the confusion -- I really appreciate that someone's put this stuff online, but I'm getting frustrated by my inability to interpret it correctly. If anyone can clear it up, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Mal.
4. Cheers guys. PM's sent (as you'll already be aware - just wanted to keep the thread up to date).
5. Looking to replace the exhaust on my '53 plate car, preferably with the standard exhaust. Probably just need the centre pipe and backbox, but am happy to take the whole shebang. Cheers, Mal. [Newcastle upon Tyne]
6. OK, maybe not the Pilot Sports. Just seen how expensive they are! LOL.
7. 12 months ago, I replaced all 4 corners, putting on Falken 452's all round. While they've been ok grip-wise (nothing spectacular, just ok), the wear rate's been shocking. I've done less than 10k miles and have even been driving very, very gently, yet the fronts are already in need of replacement. It's like they're made of marshmallow or something. The rears aren't far behind them either. Very disappointed. Not sure what to get next. Am wondering whether Falkens are a false economy and I should just go with a Michelin Pilot Sport?
8. Sorry about this - I've been tied up with work-related hassle for a while, but I'm definitely still interested. Can you send me pics of the exhaust, pls? Mal.
9. Hiya wide, Have PM'd you. Cheers, Mal.
10. Sounds good. What age car is it from and how would you describe the condition of the exhaust? Mal.
11. And in the meantime, wide, have you got any pics of the one you're selling? Any more description about the condition it's in? Cheers, Mal.
12. Definitely not going that high! Does anyone know what's the most liveable-with option, in terms of noise? The Zed's my daily driver, so I don't want something that's going to give me headaches on the commute. Actually, I should probably just RTFM. Off to find the relevant forum advice... Mal.
13. Wow, that's a canny bit. Sounds like I need to do a bit more research on all the options. Thanks for your help. Mal.
14. Hi all, Can anyone offer some advice on this? I'm (not urgently) looking for a replacement standard exhaust for my 53-plate GT. Just checked on ebay and it looks like I can get a complete system, brand-new, for £300. However, what's typical for a used exhaust? And would there be any issues fitting wide's 06 exhaust to my 53-plate car? Hope you don't mind me asking this stuff in your thread, wide. I just figure it might be useful for people looking this stuff up later too. Cheers, Mal.
15. Sorry guys, I'm gonna have to pull out. Can't guarantee that I'll be able to make it. :-/ Mal.
16. There was only that small dribble once on the trackday. And yeah, I am still on OEM rotors - was that a bad idea for the new pads? Not sure what PF pads they are and can't find my receipts now but they were bought from ESR just before they had to close down (if that helps). Not sure on the budget yet - it's more likely that the typical range of prices will determine when/whether it happens at all. How much would I need to spend to improve on OEM kit? I intend to go on track only twice a year, so I don't need race kit and do want something that'll be ok in general road use. Cheers for your help, guys.
17. What brake package did you go for? My brakes really let me down when I did Bedford in March and I'm currently tossing a coin to decide whether I upgrade the brakes or just sell the car. :-/ Mal.
18. Wow, don't you need to bleed the fluid or anything? I should really have a proper look around here for the guide, I guess. Mal.
19. Hi all, I'm getting some pretty disconcerting noises from my zed and I was wondering whether there's anyone in the Newcastle upon Tyne area with a bit of nous who could help me diagnose the problem? I suspect it's brake and/or bearing related. I took it to a garage a few weeks back and asked them to investigate, but they never even took the thing out for a drive to hear it for themselves. But that's a gripe for another day. In the meantime, I'm left with a car that's making me nervous. Here's a potted history... On 21st March, I had it out on Bedford Autodrome. Despite upgrading the pads to Performance Friction all round (in Nov 08) and the fluid to DOT 5.0, I had pretty bad brake fade (as ever). At one point, there was also a loud bang from the left rear under heavy braking. The pedal feel didn't change at all, mind, and on returning to the pits, all I could see was a very small amount of fluid seepage from the nipples on both rear calipers (more on the left rear than right rear). Perhaps foolishly, I cautiously carried on and had no further problems for the rest of the trackday. Since then, however, I've started to notice a noise that sounds like a bearing going. I can't tell for sure which corner it's coming from, but it sounds like the left rear. It's a kind of woo-woo-woo noise, if you get me. And recent weaving on stretches of deserted dual carriageway has shown it to be noisier when turning right. That suggests to me that it's due to the left-hand side of the car being under load and therefore more likely to be a problem with a bearing on the left side of the car. Is that fair? I've also noticed a metal-plate-sounding clink over bumpy surfaces at low speeds - something I had on my Mini once. I just can't remember how it was sorted. Playing with the pads in the calipers shows both rears to be pretty loose, whereas the fronts barely move at all. Is there a chance the pistons are a bit buggered on my rear brakes? And one final thing(!) -- I've recently noticed the front discs have a strange on-off-on-off wear pattern on them: From the day I bought the car (Dec 07), I've felt that the front brakes were very slightly warped, as deceleration when slowly coming to a halt was uneven. Is that likely to be the cause of the wear pattern? If anyone can offer any advice -- or better still, come and take a look at the car -- it would be much appreciated. And if the advice to be offered is "get a whole new brake setup", what would you go for? Thanks in advance, Mal.
20. Hmmm... time to check the finances again... Mal.
21. Unreal. Talk about landing on my feet. Just checked where Envy are and they're about a mile from my house. And I thought I'd got lucky with ESR's location! Mal.
22. Yeah, I'm not your most prolific poster. Or reader, for that matter. But I do like a good hoon - any idea of dates yet? For some reason, this site seems to decide not to send me notification for posts after a week or so. :-/ Mal.
23. :bye: Stew! Errr... are you saying I'm a bit late? Or mocking my smiley skillz? Mal.
24. Cheers for the tips, chaps - I was wondering exactly the same thing myself. Gutted to see ESR go, like. Only just found out. Mal.
25. Insurance? What's that? Fair point on the fuel, though. I'll probably spend about £80 on it just getting there and back. Still, if it all comes out at £400, I'll be happy enough. I spent £800 on a trackday in my Mini once. That was before I had a mortgage (and any common sense). Mal.
