  1. everything back in, pressed "f2" then tried "delete" ( as you would on a desktop pc) but still nothing on the screen and no HD access, on a desktop you can reset the cmos or remove the battery which clears the bios, is there anything like that on a laptop ?

Desktops have a jumper which you change after taking the small battery out, not many laptops have this.

This sounds more like a power supply or a motherboard issue I'm affraid - laptop PSU's are a pain to replace and not cheap :surrender:

Edit for clarity - I am not referring to the external 240v PSU, rather the internal 12-19v unit, which is normally soldered to the motherboard.

However there could also be a fault with the external one - have you tried booting from internal battery only?

  2. just booted with no ram or HD installed and still nothing, the power light comes on the fans kick up for a few seconds then nothing

Put RAM back in and boot holding down the DELETE key (on it might be F2 or that laptop) - this should take you into the system BIOS where you can do things like change the boot order etc - if you cant get into this then the problem is pretty terminal I'm affraid! (and not the HD)

Are you getting anything on the screen at all?

  3. As per James B post here viewtopic.php?f=93&t=41896

The Grasshopper is a terrific pub Meeting place, and a tasty carvery meal deal is on offer to all attendees for a reasonable set fee! (totally optional). They have a very large car park, and a few other car forums have held their Meets at this location, such as VW, Caterham 7, BMW etc! We met here in January and again in August.

1pm seems like a sensible time to meet - venue details here: http://www.grasshopperinn.co.uk/

Add name to list if interested:

  4. Thanks Alex and Mark.

I wasnt planning on doing coilovers till xmas time, which means a couple of months running my new rears on a bad setup. I cant believe how badly worn the inside of the tyre was (and they had only been on there 3 months!)- the camber must be way out - I was hoping there was something I could to in the interim.

edit - they were already worn when I fitted, but evenly etc

  5. I have just replaced the two rear tyres which both had even tread left in the middle, however the offside tyre was almost bald on the inner edge (yet the near side was only part worn on the inside edge). On closer inspection, the offside wheel has a much bigger camber angle than the nearside.

So my question is - how much camber adjustment is available on stock (without having to get camber arms). How easy/difficult is it to make any adjustments? (I dont want to do full geometry yet as I am getting new coilovers in the next few weeks - but with near tyres on I just need to adjust camber in the short term)

    Thanks, David

  6. Aren't you supposed to have special rims for runflat. I had them on my mini cooper s and hated them.

You had be worried - so I did a quick google ;)

    from Bridgestone website:

    Q. What is the difference between Bridgestone's Run-Flat systems and those of other manufacturers?

Both of Bridgestone's Run-Flat systems - the sidewall-reinforced type and the support-ring type - can be equipped on conventional wheels, whereas the systems of other manufacturers require a special type of wheel.

  7. recommended mileage for run flats (when flat) is approx 50 miles (depending on manufacturer)

    I estimate I have done approx 500 miles since I noticed a change :scare::scare::scare:

That being said, since sorting it out, I have taken off the wheel and inspected - I cant see any damage to the tyre or alloy.

However, don't like run flats as there is no warning they have gone - I'm going to change both rears ASAP
