  1. but would I be right in thinking that the rear axle turns as soon as the engine is on, and you choose a gear to engage it?

No that does not happen

Doh! Thought I was being clever

Is there anything near the rear axle that does revolve or would explain the sound I'm hearing when the car is in neutral then smarty pants?

  2. It doesn't really get louder. After listening all over, it seems that the sound is loudest when I'm listening to the centre of the rear wheels on both sides, which I would assume meant the rear axle is making the noise?

My knowledge of the mechanics of cars is very limited and naive, but would I be right in thinking that the rear axle turns as soon as the engine is on, and you choose a gear to engage it? If so, should it be making a noise like this?

  3. Hi all,

My Z is a new toy for me and I don't have any past experience with them. This may just be a sound that a Z makes normally. When I fire the engine up, I can hear a hissing noise or like the sound a CD makes in a CD player minus the music. From the driver's seat it sounds as if it's coming from the rear nearside of the car. I can't hear it when driving as the road noise (and 6000rpm) blcoks it out. When I've listeneed outside the car, I think I can hear it where the rear axle would be on the nearside.

Any ideas or am I just being paranoid?

  4. Dealers do take the ****, but using them was the only way I could get my old car with finance on it sold and get a Z. Would have prefered to do a private sale and saved a few £££ but hey, I have my Z now. Glad to see another Z enthusiast thought it looked worth buying.

Just booked it into TDi North for a change to synthetic oil and a general check over. Should have peace of mind next week that it's mechanically sound. Then I can tear up the streets without fear of a wheel falling off (obviously driving as per Highway Code)

  5. It was the one from Arnold Clark in Salford but they transferred it from the Warrington branch. Hope you don't know something I don't :headhurt: . . . But yeah, that's the one.

I'll give TDi North a ring, thanks Digsy

  6. I know this threads a bit old but I've just got a second hand Z from Arnold Clark. Not sure if it's got any problems but would like it checking over by someone who's enthusiastic and not just out to make loads of dollars. Anyone know anywhere like TDi to go near Bolton or Manchester?

  7. Hi all,

Recently managed to sell my Accord Type-S and wangle the finance to buy a 350z for just a bit more each month that I was paying for the Honda. Didn't think it would be possible but hey. After wanting one for 3 years I've now got a 2004 GT in silver with 35,000 miles on it. Car has been looked after by Arnold Clark since new, so I've booked it in for it's P4 (££Â£) with Nissan.

It seems in good condition, although I've only test driven one other Z years ago so can only assume it's driving ok. It doesn't have any of the common problems like the rear axle clicking, but does rumble a bit when accelerating from the biting point. I'm thinking the clutch may need replacing, so I'm considering aftermarket clutch and flywheel. Even though I don't really know what this will achieve, I have an urge to mod. . .

Anyways, look forward to speaking to you all soon in various forums.

ps I'll update my signature soon. Introduction is a bit rushed.
