  1. Never played GTR2. I have GT4 which has does. It may not be 100% accurate as it's only a game but it'll give you an idea. It does have the different types of curb just like the real thing. Some will throw you off in the blink of an eye. I did the 24hr race in GT4. Had to leave the PS2 on for over a week to do it and got serious tunnel vision but had lap times of 6mins, I think, in my JGTC Z. (1000bhp) :)

  2. The ring is classified as a toll road but your insurance company will find any number of ways out of it. Insurance is a necessity but I still hate them. When the cops hit me last year and were completely in the wrong my insurance would fit the case. The final conversation I had with them the bloke on the phone let slip that they have a long standing knock-for-knock agreement with the Garda’s. So to get out of it they gave me back my noclaims and paid for my repairs.

As a rule of thumb – you will have no insurance on the ring.

I know nothing about track insurance but it’s also a safe bet that no company will give you track insurance for the ring.

Also remember most breakdown company’s wont come get you on the ring.

Wish I could go. My brother has a stripped down Celica GT4 that he said as a 30th birthday gift I could trash round the ring.

  3. I’m think you also have to pay for ambulance, fire crews and helicopters if in the unlikely (and hope it never happens) event that something more serious then a prang against the armco.

Was planning a trip myself last year before I had a little but expensive accident.

  4. Has anyone tried Endless brake pads on their Z?

Expensive but very good. $400 for a full set of SS-M Sport for the Z with Brembo callipers i.e. UK cars.

On my JDM Celica 190 I had a set. In 2001 the car was imported with them on it and in 2006 when I sold it they were still going strong. Virtually no wear.

  5. This is a fascinating thread. Great to see what people are paying for insurance.

If we’re having a competition for worst insurance of all time that will make all of yours look like peanuts I’d win.

Last year, 30yrs old, my Celica 190 was hit by cops. At the time insurance was €1300. Cops refused to pay and my insurance company refused to fight my corner. Car repaired for 5k and then sold. Bought the Z. Renewal arrived in October. €6000 with outstanding claim. Change companies and got it for €1200 with a 4k excess. Original insurance company, having paid my repairs, eventually gave in, accepted their losses and returned my full no claims. Cops told to f*** off and fix their own car.

I’d be happy to pay £600, 700, 800 and road tax for next to nothing. I’d save a fortune.

  6. Easier and less stressful to sell a car than a house

I wish. I could sell my apartment in Dublin in a week. The car could take over a year to sell. Irish people are very slow to buy sports cars unless they are filthy rich in which case it's DB9's all round (or the new Jag). Muppets. Bit of a stereotype I know but you get the idea. Property is gold in Ireland. Everybody wants it and is prepared to pay a lot for it. For cars they want new and cheap. €54k Z doesn’t fit the average criteria.

I think I mentioned earlier, the Z isn't really worth that much. Running costs are high but a loan to cover costs and the value of the Z is not an issue in my mind.

Tightening the old purse strings is a lot easier then people think and is probably the best thing to do here. I've virtually given up drinking over the last year for no real reason and the bank balance has reached a point where I have to decide what to do with it. I didn't drink a lot it just costs a lot. Night out in Dublin just with mates to a pub/club will leave you with a pocket of coins from €100.

  7. Short answer - NO.

Long answer - depends. :) I would have to research the career move thoroughly to really know and understand if it was sound. The only real reason for me to sell the Z would be if I was leaving the country for a job opportunity (or wanted a different car).

Could be that investment is required for this career move. In the UK the Z costs a chunk less then here in Ireland so I would look for the cash elsewhere (If in the UK). A Z here is €54k new so I probably would sell if I needed the cash to gain the (guaranteed) return.

  8. Now what I need is a woman who'll buy me presents on a whim. In fact I could do with one that'd pay my road tax. (€1343 due this month)

jeeez......... how many cars is that for.............

Any car over 3ltr is taxed at €1343 per annum.

Back on topic, it'll be chinese food on Wed.

  9. Can't believe this was posted today. If only you'd posted it last Sunday.

My blue pearl looked just like wes.brook's on Sunday. I thought the weather had finally turned so I cleaned her. Hadn't washed her since December.

  10. I'll be out in my Z. :teeth: Was great this morning. Only a thin layer but was enough to make it real interesting. Love it. Slipping and sliding out of my apartment complex. Tomorrow we're due a lot more snow.

Cant wait to get up and go to work. That doesn't like me
