  1. Has any one on here fitted one of these? http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk/taurus.asp The rear windows of my Zed are very dark so parking is more difficult than ever. I AM NOT going to drill holes in my bumper and intended to mount the reversing sensors in the REVERSING LIGHT LENS as I did on my jag. Then I saw the above and thought that if they were any good then there would be no need to drill holes in anything Has anyone else fitted parking sensors and if so which ones and how good were they? Cheers guys Ming the Upgrader
  2. What a fuc*ing great story I would love to have seen the look on the burglars face and the reddening of the Sgt or Inspector at the scene when they realised that they had been duped. Good on him I say. Ming the Impressed
  3. Unless they proved the Tax disc was stolen then none of the offences carry imprisonment so that is one option out of the way. The guy obviously didn't have a job so a half ways decent fine would not get paid and the Criminal Justice System would spend thousands trying to get what 'aint there to get in the first place and eventually give up. (they do you know ) They could have disqualified him, which personally I think they should have, but sentencing guidelines say no insurance should be 6 points so unless he has current points on his licence that was all he was going to get for that. Dangerouis parts is usually a fixed penalty but the No Insurance is more serious so that takes precedence and no additional penalty would be issued for the dodgy boot. My ideal would be the dodgy car taken off and crushed, or better still the good parts recycled and then crushed. The offenders licence taken from him for 12 months and a promise of 6 months in the clink if he is caught driving whilst banned. He should then be fined several hundred pounds so that the gravity of the offence is brought home to him. (If you don't think it is serious how would you feel if this little sh*t ran into you Zed or worse injured one of your family??) Even now Magistrates and district Judges still treat motoring matters with a wide range of punishments. Our DJ's daughter was badly injured by a drink driver so woe betide ANY drink related offender infront of him as they all get banned and many get jailed if circumstances permit!! Druggie shoplifters however get loads of 'CHANCES' to get it right before they eventually go to jail. I have a fail proof method of sentencing that should I ever be in a position of power I would administer immediately. Ming the considered
  4. The insurance is a bit of athorny issue. there is a pool of monies held by the insurers to pay out for uninsured drivers but ITHINK it only covers injury. As such the person concerned would have to claim of his own insurance for the damage to his car IF he is fully comp. (TBH it is so little more to go fully Comp as it TPFT that the later is just not worth it in my opinion.) By hitting if you mean in the RTA sense then it is not much of a problem as the little sh*t should not have been on the road and unless the driver ofthe car was negligent then there would be no problem. If by hitting you mean he gets out of the car with a tyre lever in his hand, looks at the damage to his recently painted Zed front end and spills the contents of his skull on the pavement whilst still comatose from the accident then yes he is in trouble. Please remember these are just my opinions based on years of practical use of these parts of the law. The courts can and still do make quite peverse decisions Ming the considered
  5. Hi Digsy This is exactly the sort of question i hoped we would get though to be fair traffic is proably my weakest subject The system as it is now involves two types of accident. Injury and non injury taking the latter first these are completed on a small form and submitted through a supervisor who SHOULD make sure all items have been dealt with. A hit and run with a witness with vehicle details SHOULD be followed up before the file is written off as completed. Often the vehicle details are wrong or in most cases refer to a previous owner three times removed. this can and does lead to severe problems in locating the driver. Injury accidents - sorry we cannot call them accidents now as that indicates negligence so they are road traffic collisions - are slioghtly different in that the form is more complex and more enquiries are expected. the same goes however for the owner driver thing. i have in the past located cars/drivers/offenders from details provided by a witness and once or twice pulled a stunt or two that illicted an admission The major trouble is that almost all road traffic matters are non endictable and as such are statute barred (cannot be proceeded with) after 6 months!! This is why many matters go un detected. A polite call / letter to the duty inspector of the officer dealing with the collision -there i go PC again - with a 'whats happening with my accident' - much better - goes a long way to getting action if things seem to be dragging on. we are in the era of accountability and a letter HAS to be answered. (I know i have had loads of them regarding either my jobs or my officers jobs) hope that this helps mate Ming the Cop Thanks for the insight, Ming. My experience is that in most cases no-one ever explains the situation to the victim of these incidents, so they just feel ignored and let down by the system. This means that where there are genuine reasons for a case not being followed up the police's reputation can be sullied by lack of communication. There has recently been brought in a sort of victims charter which basically gives set time guidelines that officers have to adhere to for informing complainants of progress of the complaint. This inlcudes telling them when someone has been arrested - sent to court - the court result - and lastly if and why the case has been dropped. Bobbies are thier own worst enemies in that if an outside agency - say for instance CPS - decide not to persue the case then because they know the complainant will give them loads of flack for something that was often not of their doing and out of their control they avoid the complainant as opposed to telling them what and why. Hopefuly this might change now Of course there are officers who for whatever reason don't follow up these cases. One extremely pleasant elderly client who tried to enquire about his case found that the officer refused to speak to him and avoided his calls. The case was dropped and he was never given an explanation. Fortunately, I was more tenacious and with the help of the independent witness persuaded the third party's insurers to pay up. Good man. It is always disappointing when someone from your profession lets the side down. I imagine part of the problem will be lack of funding/manpower so that officers don't have the time to keep the victims in the loop but better communication would help the public perception of the police, who I believe in general do a good job. Lack of resources is ALWAYS a problem. The regular patrolling officers at my district often come on days and have to deal in an 8 hour shift with 40 or 50 incidents to be shared out between 8 or 9 officers. Smoe of these incidents can take most of the shift and as such old stuff gets forgotten. Times many I have taken my meal, sat a computer checking my crimes, my emails, and sorting a file as well as making courtesy phone calls. There were periods of weeks where I NEVER had a full 45 meal BREAK. One where I sat in the canteen and watched a little telly and eat your meal unhurried. You are exactly right about the communication issue and I think I have explained that above Ming the Old timer

  7. I guess he has been interviewed but either refused to comment or told a pack of lies? What is the role of the CPS? and who actually are they?? do they have legal qualifications? Are they just reviewing the case against the CPS Code for Crown Prosecutors?? I would have thought that the scenario you described would pass both the evidential and public interest tests?? Are they saying the evidence not enough or that there isn’t a realistic chance of conviction (coz of the burden of proof)? I guess it would have been better if you actually managed to stop this guy and actually arrest him while he was in possession of the vehicle.. I guess CPS are worried about the burden of proof. He could turn up to court and claim that it wasn’t him and he was home with family etc. Would this raise reasonable doubt?? You would think any magistrates would take the word of a police officer rather than some scum bag.. Like what has already been said, they are not bothered by a stretch in prison as they are most likely better off.... hmmm do I feel a career change coming on Folk like this want their necks stretching.... get rid of them… would reduce the amount of scum in prison and make folk think twice about offending… I dare say this guy will carry on driving whilst being disqualified.. eventually he will be caught in the act and wont be able to argue against it... then he will enter an early guilty plea and get 1/3 knocked off the sentence straight away Just hope he doesn’t cause a fatal accident The CPS are all fully trained lawyers working for the Crown Prosecution Service.. If you do something wrong and go to court they are the guys who prosecute you at court. each case where there is a dispute is taken to them before the offender is charged for a decision to be made regarding a whether to charge b The most appropriate charge The later is easy and 99 times out of 100 the officer already knows what he wants to charge. The former has two tests applied. Is there enough evidence to stand a REALISTIC proposition of a guilty at court and is it in the public interest to charge Courts now accept less and less the un corroborated evidence of a police officer. That was my whole point about how many officers are needed now before CPS say yes. I two is not enough how many do you need. If we have to catch him doing it then take away the power to arrest afterwards. This then would result in more nasty car chases around our towns and cities whilst we try and 'arrest committing' the little SH*Ts. The 'is it in thepublic interest BOLLOX is great. Itas a get out for any case that would otherwise go in the too difficult to do box. If we are likely to have a trial spend time at court etc etc they think 'well he will only get his ban extended so why bother and put it in this box. Ming the disheartened PS Got to go to work now to pick him out on an ID parade!! LOL
  8. Over there it is an offence to insult or demean a police officer which is taken VERY seriously. hence the decent back handers and kicks up the ars*. Over here we have banned smacking, banned any sort of punishment in school so what chance do the boys and girls in blue have. A whole generation with no respect for anything and the child line telephone number tattooed on their hand at birth. HELP Ming the Fantasy Prime Minister
  9. Guns dont make a difference. (I'll come to that later) Its punishment that makes a difference. How do you stop a dog @*!#*ing on the carpet. You clout it and rub its nose in it. the dog DOESN'T LIKE THIS.. Do it twice and the dog stops @*!#*ing on the carpet. Take it for a walk, give it a chew, talk nicely to it, and get it a doggy social worker thereby allowing it to sh*t on the carpet for six months and it will sh*t on your carpet forever!! Guns. There are already armed police on duty in every city and most towns in the country. If people tell you otherwise they are lying. I police with my brain my mouth and my hands. Lastly and only as a real last resort do I use baton, gas and extreme violence. I have never been in a situation where I felt I needed a gun and I have been policing nearly 30 years (I did 3 years in Northern Ireland and we had to carry one there but that doesn't really count) Whilst in my present town i have been shot at twice - both times with an air rifle and both times narrowly missing my head. Guns will make no difference what so ever to crime or crime rates. All it will do is make the determined, desperate criminal even more likely to carry a gun himself. Ming the fantasy Prime Minsiter
  10. LOL. Mrs Ming wants to know the answer. But I aint single Ming the Happy
  11. Yup yup and more Yup. A sentence should be that a sentence. Not a parody of justice. A year should be a year. Behave and you are out on time. Missbehave and obviously you haven't learnt so do a little more time. The government likes to say it is tough on crime/drugs/violence/rape etc so they give out whopping great sentences and gets lots and lots of good press and then when the hubub has died down the actual figure is rolled out. 4 years = 2 (1/2 off automatically) the remaining 2 years can = 1 year inside and 1 year on tag Add home leave and stuff and they hardly seem to be inside before they are back bleedin out! Short term we would need more jails as the new sentences would mean more folk going to jail and more folk staying in jail but a lot of those that regularly go back would STILL BE INSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that but those that get out WOULDN'T WANT TO GO BACK.. A few years down the line and we would have half empty jails cos the buggers would be learning. The extra money saved not spent on the effects of crime - as the worst offenders are still in jail - could offset the cost of the prisons and they turn out ot be free!! Work.. I agree 100%. We all work long and hard and pay all our taxes etc. The great unwashed need to understand the work ethic. You want something, ANYTHING work for it!! Chain gangs in suits with arrows on them cleaning up motorways, old ladies gardens, drug dens, streets, sewers anyhting. Get em out and get em at it. No work no play. Rob When I am in power you are on my team mate. Ming the Fantasy Prime Minister
  12. you only have to do 30 yrs service That's why it's a Bobies job 11% of every penny I earn goes towards my pension and has done so for evey day I have worked. Thats why I can afford to go after 30 years. Anyway. where are all the Shite Cop/CPS/Criminal Justice System/courts/prisons stories and Bleedin awkward questions. Ming the off to Bed. Ready for flack in the 'morrow
  13. Nearly forty-eight mate.thirty years in in four and half years time. Then off to pastures new!!! Might go in to polishing cars for a living ming the not so old
  14. 60 Cheeky sod. Not even 50 yet. loads of life in the old dog yet. Maybe when I retire (4 1/2 years to go now) I will run for parliament. We could have the 'Ming for Law and Order' party. A couple of my mates would be in charge of discipline and punishment and this country would be 'straightened up' in about six months or I would get asassinated Ming the dreamer
  15. One day someone with the right schooling and the proper back ground WILL stand up and say the right things and i am sure that they will get into power. The trouble is our fine country is one of queue standers. It takes a massive amount of pushing before we fight back. When we do though ................................ Ming the Hopeful
  16. Lucky we have stupid criminals as well so that CPS get a few convictions eh!! Its real nice when they F**K up!! LOL Ming the happy
  17. Politics is not my pidgeon to be honest and after a while, in my opinion, they are all the bleedin' same. You know what they say "Power corrupts". Never truer than in politics in my opinion. they do anything to stay in power. What we need is a party who REALLY intend to deal with the problems of law and disorder and not just pay it lip service. Jail should mean JAIL. The sentence should be what you serve. Nowadays any sentence under 3 years means they serve about a quarter and spend another quarter on 'tag'. think about it this way. Six months means six WEEKS. If someone burgles your house they go to JAIL. And they STAY in jail. For a long long time. that way they don't burgle OTHER PEOPLES HOUSES. I personally don't care if Jail does not re habilitate criminals. I just care that whilst they are in Jail they are not committing more offences. Jail should be a horrid place that people don't want to go back too. Any ex soldiers on here who ever went to Colchester Barracks will know what I mean. Proper Jail. Jail is only a deterent if it is not a nice place to be. Our young offenders institute in doncaster is known locally as 'Funcaster' because it has alsorts of lovely things that our poor misunderstood youth don't get at home. I know of kids who cant wait TO GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!! Ming on his high horse
  18. Liam If it was a 'serious' case involving either lots of money or a nasty assault then they would have us all at crown court and we might stand a chance but CPS work on percentage so if there is a chance that they could lose the case they will bin it early so that their percentage of successful prosecutions stays high. My experience tells me that if we can get the thing into the legal system and on its way to court then 9 times out of 10 we get a guilty plea. Its getting the damn thing INTO the system that is so hard. Have no fear I am quite well known locally both with the CPS and at court and I still feel reasonably hopeful that we can get it into the system. The annoying thing is I should not have to twist so many arms to get something in that should have gone in automatically. I will update you all after the ID procedures on wednesday morning. Oh I forgot to tell you, this guy is a prolific offender and a suspect for numerous pub breaks locally, as well as an habitual drug abuser, so is obviously of better character than the two officers who 'say' they saw him. Ming the dischuffed. Come on Ask me a Question.
  19. As suggested in a previous post I am going to go 'open forum' or is that 'open season' on our legal system. I will be prepared to answer any question as best I can, with a lot of cynicism, a fair chunk of humour and a pile of my own opinion, gained through being an officer of the law of one sort or another since 1977 (I know that makes me one old dude) I stress the fact that it is my own opinion so don't go wandering into court saying " .... well Ming said .... " as it probably won't work. also what I say and get away with saying and doing in court and inside the 'system' I would not suggest that others try. I know the system. I only ask that :- a. You dont ask me to comment SPECIFICALLY on a case b. You dont make the posts PERSONAL I will start off with a moan of my own. Several days ago Iwas on duty in plain clothes in an unmarked car with another plain clothed officer driving down a narrow, double parked town street. We had to almost stop to avoid a collision with a tatty Sierra coming the other way. this car also almost stopped. The driver was only a matter of two or three foot from me and my colleague and our view was not obstructed in any way. I instantly recognised the driver as a know criminal with many convictions. the cars passed and as my mate turned our car round I check out the villain. sure enough he was disqualified. As we were in an unmarked car we lost him and allthough we passed his deatails over the air he failed to turn up. Two of my officers arrested him today and interviewed him. Of course he denied ever having been driving but agreed that both the officers knew him and would if asked pick him out on an identity parade. The crown prosecution service decided initially that even though we had over 40 years unblemished police service between us there was 'little prospect of a prosecution'. To say I spat the dummy out is a bit of an understatement. My arguement was that if two officers is not enough then surely a double decker bus full followed by two Public Order Units would also be insufficient and if that is the case where do i hand in my Warrant Card and uniform. this was met with a ruffled feathers and an agreement that we would have to pick him out on an I/D parade 'but even then it wont make any difference'. And people wonder why the boys and girls in blue get the hump from time to time. Come on guys Test the water and lets have a laugh Ming the ready

  24. That made me giggle!! Where do I get this from. Is it an auto parts store stuff or is it special purchase. Can't say I remember seeing it on the shelves at Halfords?? Cheers mate Ming the Interested
  25. You definatly can polish a car too much. Polishes Cut, Waxes protect. Once you have the paint nicely polished you should be layering on the wax not polish. Get some P21S to top off all that polish and the car will be gleaming for weeks Hi rob Now that the car is properly clean I will be putting on several alyers of Autogly ultimate finish which is some sort of sealant. A straight wipe on, let dry, wipe off job that boosts the shine no end. My mate who is a car detailer by trade swears by Carnuba Wax but from what I can see it is prohibitively expensive. Whats P21S? Always up for something that shows all the hard work I put in off on the car. Cheers Ming the curious
