  1. Sorry if this is a daft question but do you have an online store or something? How do I order from/contact you?
  2. So my trusty Zed's blower motor started intermittently dying/stopping then coming on etc. recently. I had the car serviced recently as well, and duly told the stealers to investigate, they subsequently said to me the blower motor is dead, and then proceeded to quote me £2,500 to replace "the whole heater unit", to which I said "how come you want to replace the whole unit when only the blower motor is dead, and I know those are like $120 tops new?" "No, but you have to replace the whole unit." They must be on crack if they think I'm paying £2.5 grand to fix a blower motor. Strangely, since they investigated, the motor doesn't come on at all anymore and is 100% dead. Hmmmm.... Since then I've done some of my own research and I have my suspicions that this may in fact rather be the blower motor relay, which apparently can cause this behaviour. Unfortunately I've not been able to locate exactly where this mythical beast is, and also confirm which relays I actually need to buy to replace them with. Even so, it might be the blower motor so I've been contemplating getting one from a breakers yard regardless as a spare, but they're kind of rare and more expensive than the more common Nissan Murano blower motor's that appear visually identical, but aren't listed as compatible most places (though in some they are.) So can anyone: a) Confirm whether the Nissan Murano blower motors are the same as in the Zed? b) Confirm where the bloody blower relay is. Thanks so much.
  3. No... well I read that to say: "For the period 7am - 7pm, NO stopping, *except* for loading, which may [in this period] only happen between 10am and 4pm". The text says nothing about stopping *after* 7pm (e.g. 7pm - 7am), and by implication, stopping is, in that period, not enterly prohibited as nothing is specified. That's my take anyway. (They make a statment about 7am-7pm, and then notarise an exception for loading, in this period. They make no statement about the remainder of a 24h cycle.) So I still think they'll end up with egg on their face if you go to court. (But then, I could very well be wrong... You know what beaurocrats are like.) I would probably reply one more time, pointing out the anomaly in as much excruciatingly grim detail as you can, and repeating it several times (to hopefully hammer it through their skull), possibly including pointing out that the notice makes no statement about the period after 7pm.

  5. Well, posting this from a hotel room in France, satisfied in the knowledge that yes, England pulled off the seemingly impossible, and looking forward to the SA/Arg game tomorrow. Anyway, what was almost comical today was how many people was gawping at the Zed, particularly once I reached french turf. Some people were just about breaking their necks turning to look as they went past (or as I went past) on the motorways. I'd almost forgotten what a head turner the zed can be in some places. (Where I live it doesn't seem to happen much anymore, not sure whether this is because the peeps are used to them or what, but anyway.) Great fun! Aside: I can now confidently state that the Zed can travel from the Midlands to Paris on less than one tank of fuel, and that the Nissan Sat Nav is really rather good, even auto adjusting for timezone when we crossed the channel.
  6. Thanks for that however, I have 2 more questions: 1.) Do I need to do anything about my headlights (shouldn't one adjust them to account for the righ vs. left side of the road driving etc.?) 2) Can anyone confirm that my 2006 model Zed with DVD maps which appears like it may support multiple countries (having a greyed out country selector) actually contains European maps (and that it will allow me to select French destinations, presumably once on the mainland?) Thanks!
  7. Hello fellow zedders, Hoping for some advice from you who've been abroad with their Zed's. We got some tickets for the rugby in France this weekend and have decided to drive down, so I've got to get all the neccesary bits organised post-haste. Not having done that before, can someone who have done it before give me the lowdown on what to do and what to watch out for. I think I need to get some traffic triangles and first aid kit etc (what exactly), and make sure I'm covered by my insurance for the period I'm there. What else? GB sticker on the number plate? All advice gratefully received!

    Feel for you man. (That's why I've trained myself to *always* put it in reverse rather than first when I have a wall in front of me. It's so easy to absent mindedly let the clutch out while in gear if you're not careful...)

  10. disclaimer: I'm not a professional photographer so any inaccuracies, please correct me! FStop is a measure of the amount of light let onto the film by the lens/aperture. The larger the fstop value, the smaller the aperture and hence the amount of light let onto the film, and vice versa. Fstop also affects/reflects your depth of field, since the smaller an aperture is, the greater the depth of field is in your photo's. So if you'd like to for example take a photo and want the background close behind it to blur out of focus, you want a short depth of field. To achieve that you want to use a large aperture to reduce your depth of field, and thus you need to use a small fstop. That would in turn imply needing to use a higher shutter speed than with a bigger f-stop to keep the exposure correct. In simple terms, small fstops correspond to small/short depths of field and large apertures (requiring faster shutter speeds), while large fstops corresponds to large/deep depths of field and small apertures (requiring slower shutter speeds.)

These are the top 10 "mid-life crisis" motors. http://cars.uk.msn.com/news/car_news_ar ... id=6230601 I think it says something that the top 5 are made up of amongst others the Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT, but not sure what The Zed, nearly dropping off the list, comes in right at the bottom at no.10. so is apparently the least mid-life crisis-ey of the lot!

  13. Hy bru, Fellow ex.pat here. What year is your Zed? How much do estimate you'd get selling it in SA? It might still be worth selling and buying over here, depending on year reg, etc.
