  1. Okay so I've sealed all the flanges on the exhaust and retorqued everything... But while I was under the car and had it running again it seemed to be coming from the fuel tank. I opened up the service hatch to the pump and yeah, it's making the noise. The noise is alongside the normal sound of fuel being pumped it seems... Any ideas? It's a new Hitachi replacement pump. Anyone has issues before?
  2. Yup definitely from the rear, crawled around for a bit around the car and the front is silent (other than engine noise of course ^^). Since I changed the fuel pump I figured it wouldn't be that either. I'm going to remove the covers on the fuel pump and see if it is that, hopefully not... I hate trying to return faulty goods... Fingers crossed. Will lift the car up on quickjacks and see if I can trace the sound from underneath too. Worst case if it's the exhaust I need to find a nice new system been eyeing up milltek for a while
  3. So, I have been having an issue with my car where I can hear a high pitched noise (whine/whistle) that seems to be coming from the rear of my Z. Firstly I changed the fuel pump since I read of a few people on this forum and others saying that they can make noise from cavitation in the pump or something like that. Put in a Hitachi replacement unit and no difference. I then thought it might be one of the electrical bits in the rear that's doing it, so I went and sound proofed the hell out of the rear of my car, unfortunately no change other than slightly less road noise. I'm really not sure what it can be at this point, but this morning after starting my car before heading out I realised I forgot something in my house and found I could hear the high pitched noise from outside much louder than inside the car. Now I'm curious if it could potentially be a pin hole in the exhaust? Has anyone had this before? I was thinking of putting some exhaust paste on all the flanges just to eliminate the chance of any leaks from there...
  4. I have had the thing sat in my garage and no new oil has come out... So I'm thinking that it might be okay still blasting out the old bushing from the subframe!
  5. If there isn't any leaking from the seals externally they I assume it should be fine... I will put a bead of RTV sealant on the hole in the middle to maybe stop any more leaking out from there. If I notice more leaking then I will change the seals down the line. Thanks for the info though!
  6. Hi all, Just taken off my differential after work today, went smoothly but when I was taking the drive shafts to the wheels off the driver side one was leaking a fair amount of fluid from between the flanges. I thought that area would be sealed but it kept weeping out as I did the rest of the removal. Anyone got ideas on this? I was just wanting to replace the bushes... Worried I've opened a can of worms now! Other side is completely dry too. The leaking side also moves about a centimetre to and fro and the dry side doesn't move at all. Any advice is welcome!
  7. Hey all, so I've been busy during the whole lockdown trying to get as much done with my Z as I can, and got myself finally replacing the old brake lines and some sections of hardline where it was corroded. I just finished doing the front ones today and just waiting on some new bolts and such to finish the job... but I had a bit of a snag on the way. So, one of the front brembo calliper bolts threaded a section of the calliper. The bolt is also buggered, not a problem since im replacing them all anyway. I managed to screw in one of the cleaner bolts I had back into the thread to attempt to "fix" the thread and see if it could hold anything. It does hold, but im hesitant to run with that as a fix... Or even really torque it up much. So my question to you guys, has anyone had this happen before and what did you do to fix it up? I want to know what options I have, some reading got me to either try to re-tap the thread (already tried as I explained), put a helicoil in (dont have experience with these), or replace the whole calliper. Now after some quick looking around I dont see many of them for sale, unless anyone knows of one being (sadly) broken for parts. Cheers!
  8. Well the toyosport mid and back was the latest addition, I had the HFCs paired with the stock exhaust beforehand and it was fine, no drone. Could be a leak somewhere, potentially on one of my welds.... I'm not the best welder around haha was thinking of going around it with some exhaust repair paste just to be sure. On a side note, that's a very nice looking underbody! Is it worth to wrap the y pipe though? I read up somewhere that it increases the decay of the metal. I'm no expert however, but since the stock one had heat shields I thought it would make sense to follow suit.
  9. Just a question with your toyosport exhaust (I'm running the same setup but with torqen HFCs), does yours have quite a lot of drone? I find that unless I'm above 3/4k revs and I put my foot down it has a pretty nasty drone. Fitment was a bitch with it and I had to weld a small section in to the mid pipe to get it to reach the back box. Need to bend the mid hanger to fit also, it's a little bit in but not all the way... I'm currently torn, I love it when the revs are up and the throttle is open, but any sort of cruising it's just a bit rough to drive with... Reckon welding in a bigger mid section resonator could help?
  10. I think I see what you mean, but it didn't seem to be holding the exhaust gases to well!
  11. Okay mine was quite badly corroded and blowing hence why I was replacing it, but I saw no evidence of any ring on my one and it seems to be OEM. The back box appears in better condition compared to the mid pipe so likely the previous owner had replaced it and kept the old mid pipe, and forgot the ring...
  12. Small update if anyone was curious, the source of the leak wasn't the o ring after all but there was a small crack on the plastic of the fuel fill sensor housing (not sure if that's what it's called). So I've put a big of glue on it for the meantime just to keep it from leaking anything short term... Will replace later on for sure though. Has me wondering how the crack got in there in the first place. Waiting for some power steering fluid to arrive so I can do the system flush now. In the meantime gonna be putting on the new exhaust parts Got the mid pipe off after finishing work and noticed there wasn't a gasket on the connection to the back box. Is this normal? Or has a previous owner forgot one?
  13. Well I will try see what I can do before replacing the pump and rack, but when it comes to it I will be in touch I retightened the belt after it ran in a bit, I'm no expert on the matter though, it's not squealing or anything at least. It did for a bit on cold starts but tightening fixed the issue. I wouldn't say it's overtight either, it has a bit of play. I will maybe tighten it slightly and see what happens. Haven't been into the PAS system at all yet. My plan is to flush the system as it looks to have never been done in recent years. Maybe the fluid has gone really bad and gungy causing issues.
