  1. Sorry for bumping an old thread.. but does anyone know the answer??

My spare set of 350z OEM fans appear, when out of the car being tested, to push air towards the radiator, rather than pull air from it.

The mishimoto shroud i have appears to do the opposite - which is what id expect them to do given the car direction of travel...

    EDIT:

ignore me. Having tested this time around they both pull air from the rad into the engine bay, so that’s as it should be!

no idea why my previous test was different though - must be going mad.

    any ideas? Thanks

  2. Hey folks,

So I’ll start by saying that I don’t have the standard trip computer because I have 3 Defi gauges in the place of the triple dials.

I want to get a some additional data from the diag port, specifically a DTE reading or fuel level. Anything additional is great.

Ive used DashCmd and for the life of me cannot get a DTE reading through that.

Ive considered using the “scangauge” product but its a lot to fork out if it doesn’t work.

So does anyone know how to get the trip computer data displayed via another medium? I believe the standard wiring harness is behind the dash, unused - but suspect this will need the original triple gauge which I don’t have space for.

    cheers in advance!

  3. Month 17: May 2019

    Completed This Month:

    • Nissan OEM rear mud guards
    • Mishimoto Radiator fan shroud

    Total spent: £140

So a bit of a technical hitch on the above list of items, as neither have actually been fitted yet.

Firstly, I purchased a set of OEM rear mud guards, already painted in WV2 from eBay that were listed as “good condition”. When they arrived, however, they were cracked, broken and in need of a full respray. After highlighting this to the seller I was given a full refund and told I could keep them. I’ve since spent about 2 hours working on them to repair and repaint them, and I’m pleased to say that my time and money (paint, filler, glue) hasn’t been wasted and they look like they’ll be back to an acceptable condition to be fitted soon.

The other purchase this month was a new fan shroud. The prohibitive cost of OEM replacement fans and a decent price on the Mishimoto aftermarket equivalent made my decision for me - I will give these a go and see how I get on. Given my current fans only operate on single speed (high speed only) they had to be replaced or repaired anyway, so I can fit the Mishimotos and have a look at the old motors when they’re out on the bench. I have some slight challenges, however - the standard fan shroud isn’t easy to remove - with the turbo and intercooler pipes in the way it’s going to be a lot of swearing and cursing whilst I find a way around it.

Im also off to JDMCombe this weekend, so I’ll probably finish and fit these bits later in June.

    Photos

None yet - will upload later!

  4. The mishimotos are only single speed, vs the dual speed of the OEM units.

Recently helped a friend diagnose an overheating issue to discover both fans intermittently not working, replaced with the mishimoto and all fixed :)

Mishimotos can be bought online for about £140 at the moment with free delivery too, meaning they are considerably cheaper than anything else. They work great, but bear in mind with the single speed they sound loud whenever they come on - but not much louder than the standard fans are when on full speed.

  5. Hey folks,

Who is heading to JDMCombe from down south?

Im leaving from Basingstoke and heading most likely up the A34 then hitting the M4.

Would be good to meet up with folks en route if anyone is doing the same.

Thought an 7:45/8am arrival to Combe would work, probably passing the M4 services at Chievley for about 7am.

    Cheers

From 6:30 we should be able to enter. You can leave when you’d like through out the day. But ask we stay until close which is 5pm roughly. I normally leave between 2-3 usually

Cheers bud. I’ll probably aim for an 8am arrival and just see how the day goes :)

  7. I have probably missed it on here; but what is the arrival window we’re allowed to get in? 7am until when? Usually a deadline to get on the stand and parked up?

And what time can cars leave the stand at the end of the day?

Need to make sure I’m home in time for the CL final!

  8. Cheers dude.

was wondering if I can use some electrical cleaner on the brake pedal switch perhaps, make sure all is ok on that. I really can’t remember when the light came on, I know I was in traffic but whether or not it was after pressing the brakes or accelerating I’m not sure.

If I can replicate the issue again then hopefully I’ll narrow it down.

Hope it’s not ABS actuator as I believe these are expensive? And I’d want a diag to confirm that before spending big money on one.

switch could be an easy target if it happens again though.

Assume the car is still safe to drive if it happens again, want to go to JDMCombe - just probably won’t have ESP or traction until it’s sorted!

  9. Hey folks,

as as per the title, on the way home today, whilst in traffic, the 350 decided to illuminate the ABS, ESP and traction control lights on my dash. These remained on for the rest of the journey, which is approx 24 miles of motorway.

When I got home, I plugged into my WiFi code reader which gave no errors. Restarting the car several times showed no lights for 4 of the 5 restarts, but on 1 attempt they did show up again.

i have checked brake fluid, and it’s near if not bang on the max marker, may even be slightly higher?

i checked power steering fluid, and clutch fluid reservoir too - again both on max.

Brake lights appeared to be operating with the pedal as expected - ie not jammed on or off.

Bank 1 camshaft position sensor has been replaced recently - maybe 300-400 miles ago. Car starts fine with no issues. This also generated an EML which this time around I don’t have.

Everything else with the car seems fine.

what else should / can I check? Presumably only a consult diagnostic can get the data off the other modules, but don’t want to pay dealer for something I could diagnose myself.

Any my other fluids, or sensors I can check?

How do I locate the wheel speed sensors - presumably there is one on each of the 4 wheels to check over?

    Thanks!

  10. Hey folks,

With the usual 350Z cooling fan issues, mine now only run on full speed, which means failure is probably imminent. I want to sort them, and have been considering the Mishimoto fan shroud on 2 counts - a) the cost and b) fitting into my engine bay.

The latter is unique to my car - with the APS TT setup I have hard intercooler pipes and turbo pipes that get in the way meaning that removal of the OEM unit is virtually impossible without removing a lot more than I’m comfortable with. I’m not convinced it’d pull down from under the car either, so my cunning plan was to perhaps cut the existing shroud out whist in situ, and then slide the Mishimoto in its place. Theory is that the Mishi is much thinner and I’m hopeful would fit in the gap from above.

Downside of this - the fans are noisy and single speed only. That said, I’ve seen a video online and from what I can tell they aren’t much noisier than the OEM fans when on full speed, which my car currently does anyway (having no low speed)

So, does anyone have any other feedback ref the Mishimoto fan shroud? Anything else I should take into account? My plan would be then to clean the OEM fans and sell them back on to recoup some of the expense. But I wouldn’t be able to convert back to OEM at a later date without buying another plastic shroud.

Thoughts or suggestions? Are the mishi really that loud and not recommended?

    cheers!
