Very true, the Xantia is pretty much a 5 speed 306 GTI-6 in a dress, IMO one of the best FWD cars ever, and the Mi16 kicked the arse of everything in its class for handling and performance.

Ive had a GTI-6 for about 6 years now and adore it to the point I dont think ID ever sell it, the missus has a 207 diesel which shes done over 100K in without any issue and the 306 diesels are the stuff of legend.

Dont want to keep agreeing with you R_S but Pugs are actually pretty good, and weve not even really mentioned the 205 XS or GTI yet

I hate Peugeots. So far I've not found one I can actually drive. The Peddles are always too close together and why do they put those little shelves under the dash. I have size 14 feet and in most French cars I'm simply too big. Hard to like something you can't drive. My wife used to have a 306, she loved it and speaks fondly of it but I don't see the appeal especially as it caught fire several times...

Cheap thrills I'd say Seat Leon 1.8t. I had one temporarily after my Impreza died just before I got the 350. It was a mere £600 and a lot of fun.

Cheapest motoring - I once picked up a 1.9td golf mk3 that had been sat in a field for a few years for £150. A new battery and a service got me a years motoring before the head gasket went at 196k. The scrappy gave me £50 for it. Bargain.

  2. I'm quite fancying a EE55 AMG. I have a C180 Elegance atm insured as a classic and I love it, so it does tempt me to get a big power Merc...

Really I need something bigger. The Zed is cool but nothing fits inside it. And the Wife has a Fiat 500 so during recent home improvements getting kit to the house was a 'mare.

  3. I got this particular car from a dealer at the wife's insistence (My last private purchase had issues and it was easier to agree). So if I sell I'll lose more than I really want to.  And because of debts I'm not really in a position to spend more on the next car than what the 350z sells for. And I do actually have a nice example.

Really I want to want to keep it but unfortunately I actually want to change. Already been hinting to the wife saying we need something more 'practical' rather than admitting to her that I'm just bored yet again....

  4. I am rather fond of my Zed. Cleaned up the Azure blue looks awesome. The car is more than fast enough for any UK road. The exhaust Roars. People say how much they like the car. The insurance isn't bad. It ticks off so many boxes (That's why I got it in the first place) yet I find I'm becoming increasingly bored.

I've had it almost 19 months now which is actually a record.

Its not the first car I've got bored of. I've had 26 in 17 years of driving. Its not even that I've had boring Cars yet always I start to crave something different. I almost sold up last year but instead fitted a new exhaust which gave the car a new lease of life but that's wearing off now.

Does anyone else have this problem? I was really hoping that the Zed would see me for 5 years (Still paying off Wedding debts) but I can't help trowelling through the classifieds to see what is about.

  5. I've not had an M3 but I had a E46 330ci for a while a few years back. I fell in love with how it looked. It performed well (246bhp) but I lost interest quickly because it was too smooth and well put together that it became boring. Maybe with the extra power the M3 offers it might have lasted longer.

Also I loved the toys. The Zed is newer but the specification is lousy compared to my old BMWs 18k of optional extras.

  6. Welcome to the club.

    I got a Skyline R33 gtst when I was 22. 3rd party only insurance was £1900 so £1200 doesn't seem that unreasonable at 22 on a 350.

    In terms of insurance tips:

    - start with a standard car, mods will limit your options (My exhaust added £100 to my premium just because the cheapest insurance companies wouldn't insure it)

    - Add a woman to the policy. Your mum might lower your premium by quite a bit. My wife is on my policy and it saves me 10%. So far she has never even driven it.

    - Tell the insurance company you are part of a car club

  7. One of my Cats is knackered and I have the MOT coming up. I had ordered a set of cheap HFCs from Torqen but unfortunately their stock is still a few weeks away and so I had to cancel the order. I can't justify forking out for a new set of Berks. Does anyone have a set of used HFCs for sale or perhaps if you have upgraded a set of standard ones.

    Thanks,

  8. Its true you will get a much better deal privately than you will trading the car in. But private selling comes with downsides. You will be contacted by lots of dreamers, you will end up waiting in and people wont turn up, people will come and then offer silly money, and if you put your phone number anywhere on an ad you will get PPI and other spam calls.

For an easier life PX is definitely the way to go, but if you are really needing a bit of extra money to get the car you want a private sale might be the best option.

  9. Afternoon all,

I've not posted in a while, I got married, Had a honeymoon, then had a family member pass away and just haven't had time to be online. Hopefully things are all back to normal now.

I spent a lot of time last year looking into exhaust options and eventually settled on the Buddy Club. So glad I did. I was boring of the Zed and the new sound has completely transformed the car. It is properly loud but when cruising its fairly easy to keep the levels manageable but when you open it up it sounds like the car is going to take off! Anyone considering what to get should certainly consider this system. The fit was great (instructions are back to front because for LHD cars) and you have to lose a dirt guard but all went on without a hitch. The system does come with silencing bungs but after 6 months the nearest they have got to the system was the box it all came in.

Have an annoying rattle now because one of my Cats has come loose. Waiting for Torqen to deliver me a nice pair of HFCs. Just in time to roar around with the windows down! :D

Update to follow once they are fitted.

Hello I have a used K1 (from y pipe back) y pipe not included. in very good condition for sale. I have been meaning to get it up for sale for a while just not got round to it, or have the post count to do a proper ad.

    PM sent

  12. I must have a different car to the rest of you. Even a flat bottom would make minimal difference, my legs don't go under steering wheels. I double checked the seat was right back by putting it upright but it's as far as it will go. But tbh I can't sit much more upright as I have minimal headroom. 😳
