  1. The W brace is just rust too unfortunately. That was in the advisories too, but he definitely said the rear suspension mounting areas was the concern
  2. I can't see anywhere in its history where it has been there, and it's good to know that the subframe itself -probably- wont have to be removed, hopefully! Good to know that it is a common thing, and it doesn't mean mine has had it worse than any others. Starting to look like a manageable fix on its own, but you can see my conundrum now it needs 4 tyres, a front wishbone and two brake pipes as well!
  3. Hi, I've just had the book thrown at me on the MOT, at least on the advisories. Been told that corrosion has started on both rear inner sills, and the rear suspension mounting areas are corroded but not excessively. The guy has told me that the rear subframe is at risk of corrosion, and it's best to fabricate some new metal in there now. Anyone here had to do this before, any idea of the cost involved?
  4. Thanks, I haven't checked that yet. Worth doing before doing anything I might regret lol
  5. Hi, last year I changed the lower arm, banana arm and anti roll bar drop link on the nearside of my 2004 350z, which I thought were all of the possible culprits for a suspension knock, and once I fitted the banana arm having already tried the lower arm and drop links, the noise was gone. Since then the car has done around 4000 miles over the year, and very suddenly over the last two weeks a very definite knock has returned. On inspection today, all of the new parts are absolutely fine, bushes and ball joints in tact with no play at all. The only suspect part is the upper wishbone, or camber arm. I can only assume it has been on there from new and it has done 80,000 miles. When there is an axle stand under that axle, when turning the steering to a full right lock, it pulls the ball joint on the wishbone down a tiny bit and you can hear a little knock. Maybe this could happen under normal compression when driving down the road? The problem is we can't remove the part in one piece because the ball joint is just spinning when we try to undo it. The shock absorber has no oil leakage at all either. So before I use a less kind way of removing it, and committing to a new one, is there any other part of the suspension worth investigating?
  6. Potentially getting a crippling fine for doing 31 in a 30, even when never using a phone while driving, always giving the correct right of way, indicating everywhere and being in the correct lane. Can't agree with that somehow. Bad driving causes accidents, not speeding, but only one of those can be policed while the bobbies are sitting on their backsides!
  7. Get some WD40 on the hinges, I had a similar issue and ended up removing the pneumatic struts because they were totally shot, they were only creating resistance
  8. Funniest bit by far for me was when the 918 won the electric only drag race, and for the first time Clarkson actually conceded something: "OK, you've got the best milk float" lol. Was rooting for the laferrari though, and very surprised at the McLaren's performance, or lack of. Porsche punching above its weight
  9. holy moly. chrome isn't something i'd do to the wheels myself but it seems most people blame it for weakening them. Never would have thought such a cosmetic process would do that
  10. Didn't get the car into the show itself on the day, but stayed after 5:30 and got a couple of car park shots of mine. There was a hot hatch race going on around the new paddock which they just let us walk into and watch after it was all over in the japfest section
  11. Snap! Quality item though Yes, built properly and a nice finish. looks a treat in the car. Maybe the smaller one would feel better to use
  12. I have, got the heavyweight 350z one. there's something to be said for the weight, but it's really a bit too big. You get used to it but shifting it forwards you really have to sort of use your hand side on, on the wrapped bit. and it's damned cold to hold on to on frosty mornings! they're stainless steel
