  1. I think it's an MOT fail to not have a working CEL, isn't it?

    Yup

It's a pass and advise, they were supposed to change the rules on this some time ago but didn't.

I'll bloody thrash the place I use for mots when I see them!

They told me any major warning light (abs, airbag, eml etc) being inoperative was a fail

The ABS light must illuminate and extinguish after a few second of ignition being switched on, the airbag light only has to indicate a fault (be illuminated all the time) but it don't have to illuminate when you turn ignition on, and the management light can do whatever it likes!

Except for old range rovers, you have to drive them to get the ABS light out.

The M.O.T system is a bloody nightmare because most testers will disagree on almost everything testable, I just refere to the manual that's on the new system and print sections off when people disagree.

Even then there are grey areas where the manual could be interpreted in different ways.

  3. Is anybody running these brakes?

I'm looking to replace the brakes soon, I've had grooved brakes on preivious cars (mostly for the looks) but I don't want to sacrifice any stopping power by fitting crap brakes that look good!

  4. Yea i had a good look around it and i have to say it didnt look very vauxhall at all!

I wasn't very impressed with the way lookers just turned me away tho, that could of been off putting if i was a customer

Vauxhall dealers on the most part are ignorant of the VXR8 as it means more work for them and they are paranoid they **** it up and end up in trouble.

Honestly mine was the best car I have ever owned, and me and the wife are in discussions on getting another in the near future as she loved it too.

Really? Whats it handle like? Because thats alot of grunt being put through the rear wheels!

  6. I know it's a Holden at heart but you'd think Vauxhall would be duty-bound to keep parts in stock

That's what I thought! They gave me a number of a dealers in Wales somwere and told me they are the only Vauxhall dealers that can get parts, called them and then they told me they didn't recognise the reg number in there system so I ended up using the forums to get part numbers etc.

  7. I know the VXR8 is a nightmare to get parts for, had one in work a few weeks ago for some exhaust clamps and price up a service.

I had to order the clamps from a specialist place after much googling because lookers told me that they don't deal with any of the VXR8s only the Monaro ( apparently a compleatly different car)

    Sounded awesome tho!

  8. Ive PM'd him, even if i can get the right part of the loom, if i can find the wiring diagram i should be able to just run some new wires myself.

I cant see how this wouldn't work with all the right components.

  9. In theory it should be simple. Kinda...

The steering wheels button set all goes back into the wiring loom of the car via a single connector through the steering wheel boss (that's probably the wrong word in this case, but still).

One side (cruise control) disappears into the engine bay to god knows where, but the audio control/Bluetooth side terminates in a white plug that's usually plugged into the back of the stereo, this technically is the easy bit.

Not sure about the Z, but with modern cars that don't come with Cruise control as standard, but its available as an option, even if you add the controls at a later date, you usually need to have your ECU edited/flashed to actually enable the cruise control system, that is assuming that the buttons are all that's missing for the system to function (which to be fair is usually the case).

    HTH :)

Everything's simple once you've worked it out haha.

I just want the volume / phone buttons really, I've never really felt the need for cruise control. I think the hardest part will be sourcing the part of the loom between the head unit and the steering wheel?

  10. Loving the Z emblem on the HU, did you upload that with a USB stick?

Yep... was first image I found, need to find one that's a bit higher resolution... if anyone has a good high-res Z logo image lying around, would be grateful if they could send me a copy.

Can you upload the moving backgrounds as well? The standard ones on the DA-120 are crap!

  11. Just turn it off and see how you get on. What's the worst that could happen 😉

Well! My step bro knocked down one of the lampposts years ago in a montego on the same bend so i suppose i could help update the rest of them

  12. Flooded? Not sure were it is on the zed but sometimes if i go on a breakdown to a flooded car i take the fuel pump fuse out, turn it over a few times until it stops firing up then dying, and then pop it back in?

  13. Yea it's all pointing towards the geometry isn't it.

Anybody know of any decent places to get it checked out? My garages alignment equipment is limited to a set of old tracking gauges unfortunalty.

  14. I tried the same corner again tonight, but a lot slower and tried accelerating out of it and the VDC was all over the place, im pretty sure it would have been fine with it switched off!

Its hard to tell but i think i felt a bit of understeer, just cant tell if it was or it was the VDC.

Its annoying because the car feels great in all other situations, plenty of grip from the rear.
