Finally got around to taking my zed to the local garage, get it up on the ramps and take a good look at the full condition of the car.
All seemed in good order, front half of exhaust could do with replacing though.
Until I looked at the back of the front discs...
Time for some new pads and discs for the front, annoying as the front pads where only changed less than a year ago and the previous owner didn't change the discs???
So my question is, can I buy some OEM discs and some slightly uprated pads for everyday use and the occasional track use for the front and keep the OEM discs and pads for the back? or am I just asking for trouble?
Thanks.

Checked mine today and they both span the same way (standing at the front of the car looking at the car they would be going clockwise) and when I had the bonnet open it was chucking hot air up into my face (so assuming it's pulling the hot air off the rad and towards the engine).
I've got an 08 HR.

got any photos of them on the car? And also, I see the product code on one of the springs, what's the code for the other front/back Spring, thanks.

Anyone know any decent tyre/bike carriers?
-
Thank you for your guidance.
Most laser alignment places will have the factory settings in house, try for a Hunter, they are very good.
Get yourself a tyre pressure gauge and always carry a bit of oil for top ups.
Thanks, always have a tyre pressure gauge so that's one thing ticked off but completely forgot about oil top ups.
And don't forget decent brake fluid - boiling fluid is not fun.
Whta makes for a good brake fluid? Any particular brand/rating?
Hi Matt,
I've run my Z a couple of times now (Bedford and Setterton) and sofar it's performed fine totally standard.
The only things I have changed are tyres to Yokohama Neova, but I will fit DS250 pads when the current ones wear out.
Maybe see you at Bedford some time...
Good to know it runs well standard! I thought it would... Hopefully see you there, I think Bedford would be my choice of track for my first track day shenanigans.
I run AD08R's on my Teg and they are superb. Did a very wet day at Donington the other month and they held up brilliant. It was so wet that the session get red flagged a couple of times as the cars were aqua planning off the track a few times.
Did you aqua plane as well? Guessing you didn't from the way you typed that up.

Well if it was you, you flashed me when I was infront so thought you'd remember!

As a new owner of a zed I'd absolutely love to take it round a track come Spring/Summer. Had the car for a few weeks and already done the most important mod for me. Removing the tape player.....
I'm hoping by the spring I'll have saved enough for a set of 19" wheels. I think that the factory 18" Rays will offer better track performance. (19 for show, 18 for go, is what I've seen thrown around a little...!). So I'm interested in some form of rack for the rear of the car that could maybe fit 3 or 4 wheels but also be easily changeable to take a road bike for when I go on bike rides.
In terms of prepping the car I've seen mentioned a few times a few things below. Please let me know If I've missed anything crucial for ensuring a safe car at the track. Not after massive performance etc for my first year! Just safety and a huge smile on my face. Suggestions on brands etc for the below would be appreciated.
New braided brake lines
New discs?
New pads?
New helmet
Getting suspension geometry checked (is there a standard I could show a mechanic so they could ensure it matches that?)
New track tyres that can also be used on the road (just in case)
Thanks.

Absolutely fantastic guide. A massive, massive thank you. I have a 2008 HR and guide was spot on.
I decided to go for a single din with no reversing camera.
I bought my stuff straight from the InCarTec website. I bought the 29-674 and 50-306 (Dec 2015). Came with a universal steering wheel control adapter that required assembling to match whatever brand headunit you have. Only modification needed was additional length to the earthing cable (which came joined to all relevant earths so had no mods required like older versions) and new eyelet so I could earth to gear stick surround. And an aerial adapter from halfords so that the older Nissan connection could attach to my new headunit.
-
If you can use an eyelet to Earth the black cable to your front right screw holding the gear stick. I did this today and stopped my kenwood system hissing. Really useful guide here and references the earthing in one of the steps.

From what I can remember when I changed my head unit it was simply a case of removing the 6 screws detailed in the guide and giving the box a good wiggle.
Just gave that box one hell of a wiggle and two seconds later it's out. Thank you!

Hi, I've removed most of the centre console but I am now stuck. I'm trying to remove the top piece of plastic with Bose unit still attached as per this guide.
http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/56481-kenwood-ddx-4028bt-rear-cam-install-–-superguide/
However, the white (grey?) box under the stereo that I think does the ac is stopping me removing the console. The white peg in the circle is duplicated behind the metal bracket (red arrow) so can't slide forward or backward easily. And the metal mounting tab (red arrow) stops , me lifting the plastic console up and rotating forwards as suggested and seen in online videos.
Any help via pictures, words or if your near Leighton buzzard and want to laugh/help please drop by! I can provide tea or coffee......

Had my zed less than a week now, ended up taking it shopping, parked as far away from everyone as possible. On the roof of an 8 storey car park! Didn't think anything of it until the way down where I scraped the front bumper down the roof ramp as it was steeper than the rest....doh!
Girlfriend said she wished she took a photo of my face of anger and surprise.
But guess I didn't buy it to sit and look pretty on the drive!
Hope you're able to repair it as much as possible with as little cost!

Use paints4u pal. Better quality

What's the delivery time like?

Usual fodder I think mate 3-5 days unless paying for special but pretty reliable
Nozzles are much better than your standard rattle can.

I guess something like this, I'll even be able to get it to match my paint code so can colour match the door handles.

Reckon these will do the job?

Thanks for the tips and the offer. No idea where Huntingdon is so googled it, 40 odd miles away, so thanks for the offer but I'll think I'll struggle on my own for now!
Little job for tomorrow is figuring out where to get paint from. Also Need to decide on a colour too, want a themed colour so when I get my wheels done they can match.
-
I'm looking at removing the door handles, the 'z' badges by the side indicator and the z in the rear strut brace so that I can paint them a new colour.
What's the process for a complete idiot not wanting to pay to have someone else do it. I'm quite piratical but no idea with paint. Do I sand? Is primer required? Do I use gloss spray paint? And kind of top coat for exterior or interior items? When doing door handle do you prop them open to get all areas?
Basically, idiots guide would be grand!
If there is a guide I've missed a link would be very useful, I had a look but couldn't see one.

Try polishing that out of the paint rather than wax.
For the wheels I would try a good wheel cleaner i use dragons breath which I've found good.
The clicking noise does sound like axle mine done it the same in all gears up to fourth I think you just can't hear it after that from wind noise.
What's the mileage on the car?
I'll give a polishing a go tomorrow morning as its still pretty clean. I've been using the one below dragons breath, bilberry wheel cleaner, tried diluted as recommended and neat. Neither budged it, girlfriends father has given me some stronger stuff as well to try.
Looks like I'll do some reading into the clicking and see if it's something I can attempt with my limited mechanical knowledge and tools! If not, local garage I've always gone to with other cars.
Mileage is a few over 50,000.

As a brand new owner of a zed id love to come to a proper car meet full of enthusiasts. Any events coming up within an hour or so of MK this year? Would love to see what people have done with their zeds.
Where abouts do you live?

So, I've always said a new car is never your car until you've done a few things. Taken it on motorway, washed and waxed it & found something you don't like about it. Well today I've done all of those things....
First the good, lovely cruise and acceleration into the motorway, what a wonderful engine.
Secondly, also good, nice wash and wax and car looking rather nice
BEFORE
AFTER
(I'll add later when I can remove my number plate from photo
But then, the not so good
When washing the car I noticed the entire bonnet looks as if it is stained as if something has splashed onto the bonnet and reacted. Waxing (turtle wax) couldn't get it off, any ideas would be massively appreciated.
Also, rusting to the hub and rust on the surface of the wheel. Neither coming off with a good scrub. Any ideas?
And finally, when I was driving home I decided to have the windows down and the heat on so I could hear the exhaust a bit more. Unfortunately I started to hear a clicking. Every time I touched the throttle I heard a click, and then as soon as I let off I heard the click again. Is this the rear axle clicking I've heard about? I assume not as its not clicking when reversing or solely when pulling off. This is in all gears (at least up to 4th)

Haha. Better watch that paint work!

Congrats! Welcome to the land of 'jerky' traffic driving! You'll love it though, its got some character. Looks very clean! Welcome to the club!
Certainly jerky through slow traffic, although a bit more revs than I was originally giving it seemed to help and certainly made my passengers smile, also I've found it to be easier as the day went on. Took all my family out for a little drive today, they were more than impressed on my new purchase.

Took my 08 HR to a local garage today to give it a once over and mentioned this to the guys there, they jacked the car up greased it up as per the first post in the thread (did both sides as they were there) and instantly solved the clicking problem.
