Right enough modern fuels contain some detergent etc anyways and the decent fuel we get in the uk means the additives shouldn't really do anything to gum up your system. Having said that, i still recommend the diesel alternatives to friends who's diesel cars are a bit choppy before trying anything else. The petrol one likely won't make much odds but it certainly won't help. If you feel like she has suffered a little from bein super low on fuel then getting the fuel running hard through the rails (ie higher revs) would be the first thing to try: might just clear her out without the investment and lower performance while running it through. Octane booster is another one: you don't get much of a gain on a high RON like shell nitro but it may just iron out any temporary/minor issues with the fuel
  3. personally i wouldn't go the whole hog, plugs etx should be all fine after sitting a little while. Oil is a thought (i like to change mibe every 6 months regardless) but the ones i would think about would be a quick check for mould etc on air and pollen filters then check the water content of the brake fluid (its hygroscopic so absorbs moisture from the atmosphere which can create little bubbles when your brakes get up to heat). Otherwise aside from brakes probably being a bit sticky, you should be good
  4. you get a sort of rubber wheel for a grinder but an alternative (with a bit of elbow grease) is a hard pencil eraser
  5. The setup is a bit different to my JVC unit but as long as you havr the cable to convert the two headunit wiring plugs from the car into the stereo itself then it should fire up fine. The wiring runs through the bose amp so a little tip is to turn off the speed sensitive volume via the old stereo before you change them (an irritation i now live with because the new headunit doesn't have the control for it). The steering control adapter is optional but if you don't fit it right away, mkae sure the wire from the car for it (blue and labelled iirc) is accessible near the air con module to save takin the console out fully when you come to do it. If your headunit has a usb plug on the back like mine, you can run it under the gear gator to the centre box (hassle but worth it imo). Last thing, check the antenna connection on the stereo, you might need a cheap eee plug converter (had to do this on other cars over the years). Otherwise everythin should be roses if the site links the unit to the accessories
  6. have to say i'm with kev on this one- think you need to be well CF'd to make the pillars worth it. if you just fancy giving them a different finish: try a wrap (super easy on a wee flat piece) or give them a blast with some plasti dip. Right enough though the carbon is lovely...
  7. have to agree on the colour thing too- we are awash with black, grey and silver up here in aberdeen
  8. when i wrote off my old z i considered an old 5.7 monaro- similar spec but bigger engine and more seats
  9. First bit of advice mate: read your manual! Nobody ever does but you'll ne surprised the cool little things the car can do. If you fancy modding, start with the looks as its unlikely you'll need any extra poeer while you're getting used to how she drives. If you can live with the limited seats, you'll never need to change your car- she's got everything you could want
  10. I'll come round with my Ethos on the weekend if that POS Consult doesn't do the job davie
  11. While you're learning the car, stick to doing the looks. That way when you start doing performance mods down the line you'll notice each little difference because you'll be used to the standard setup. Wheel spacers and the HR bonnet
