  1. Its a shame about photobucket they could simply use adverts , it always was ok before and you only needed to pay originally when you had an awful lot of stuff on there

Its been pretty much unusable for ages anyhow shame really

I wonder how much money they'll make from people desperate to get their photos back.

    Nothing you can download them

  3. Did your insurer sort out the courtesy car for you?

What I'm getting at here is that if you signed up for it yourself using an AMC, then technically you're on the hook for the hire cost which I imagine is not going to be cheap. Insurance is about mitigating losses, and whilst having that on hire for a couple of weeks probably isn't going to cause anyone to bat an eyelid and the expense will no doubt be paid by the TP insurer, if it carries on any longer then you're going to want to swap that for something significantly cheaper to hire. Otherwise you run the very real risk of being on the hook for the bill.

Of course, ignore all that if your insurer is supplying and you've not signed the usual agreement that AMCs make you sign.

  4.

Stock gearbox in the vid . They are improved with a remap I know Jez at Horsham can tweak a few things . They arent bad as autos go and maybe a tad faster in manual mode but that could be all in my mind , downshifts are fast and crisp with rev matching . However they are no DSG or even up there with the latest ZF boxes but they are better than most

Not a bad video here either

but its all down to personal preference

  5. I'm convinced Musk is a real life super villain in waiting.

What powers do you think he has?

He'd be able to defy gravity using electromagnetics, so he can fly up to at least 10 miles above the earth (before the gravitic field is too weak to take advantage of). He is a master of electromagnetism, so he can pull metal objects toward him or repel them, but not to the same degree as Magneto. He can summon and channel lightning like Thor.

Does he have super strength? How can we justify that? Amlpified electric signal from the nerves to the muscles?

    Discuss!

He has the same powers that Bruce Wayne has .....money

  6. Every little bit helps we fitted triple glazing and a new front door and reckon we saved £300-£400 per year in heating alone wished we had done it years ago

But just think if everyone did it !

All these energy saving devices still have to paid for and you are just moving the industry away from one thing to another, so whats the environmental impact of increased production of pv panels, triple glazing, insulation etc etc ??

Sorry i just cant understand the, i am saving "x" a year mentality, when its cost you more to implement these things in the first place, in my new build i have, 120mm insulation in the floor, 75mm in the walls, 100mm loose fill in the ceilings, pv panels, thats probably £7k in insulation and energy saving on just a small 2 bed house, i doubt i would get anywhere near a £7k saving.

It depends on how long you stay there doesnt it, if energy prices continue to rise like they have you will be surprised. But apart from that I can tell you that come your first winter you will appreciate it . I grew up in a totally un-insulated house , no central heating and single glazed metal framed windows . It was common to have ice on the inside in the winter. I know what I prefer

If we had done it years ago it would be paid for by now as we have been here 18 years, another 3 or 4 years and we will be making money on the improvements we have made that time will fly by

  7. ^ it is possible to get over the line first (win race), yet with a slower 1/4 mile time.................................

Yep is called a "holeshot" the clocks only start when the cars leaves the line , not when the green light comes on . RWYB isnt racing there is no difference between winning and losing , there are no prizes at the end , its only about running the best time you can

  8. And on topic sure I've saw Z's run high 13's before. What does the 370Z run?

You can get into the 12's with the 370z , some in the US have managed it, I ran a best of 13.3 at around 108 in my old one iirc

OP what was your 60ft , thats what matters, should be around 2.00 , reckon you are about 2.4

Decent tyres like MPSS , lower the pressure by 5-7psi will make a difference

Reaction times have no effect on the 1/4 times much better to concentrate on the launch and get things right

    60ft 2.4659

    330ft 6.4814

    1/8 9.7257

    1/4 14.7568

Tyres were losing traction on every change.

I got good launches, with decent grip it might have shaved that 0.75 off.....maybe

Tyres were losing traction on every change.

    I got good launches

2.4 isnt a good launch and losing traction is where your times are going , better tyres would help no doubt

  9. Is a really economical diesel healthier for the environment at the minute?

Yes if you consider co2 emissions which is what they were all obsessed with 15 years ago but no if you consider the toxic particles diesels emit . These are killing people now- today , co2 will kill people in the future if we cant reduce it (Although its probably too late )

  12. Huge hopes have been tied to electric cars as the solution to automotive CO2 climate problem. But it turns out the the electric car batteries are eco-villains in the production process of creating them. Several tons of carbon dioxide has been emitted, even before the batteries leave the factory.

IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute was commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Energy Agency to investigate litium-ion batteries climate impact from a life cycle perspective. There are batteries designed for electric vehicles included in the study. The two authors Lisbeth Dahllöf and Mia Romare has done a meta-study that is reviewed and compiled existing studies.

The report shows that the battery manufacturing leads to high emissions. For every kilowatt hour of storage capacity in the battery generated emissions of 150 to 200 kilos of carbon dioxide already in the factory. The researchers did not study individual brand batteries, how these were produced, or the electricity mix they use. But if we understand the great importance of the battery here is an example: Two common electric cars on the market, the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model S, the batteries about 30 kWh and 100 kWh.

Even before buying the car emissions occurred, corresponding to approximately 5.3 tons and 17.5 tons of Carbon Dioxide. The numbers can be difficult to relate to. As a comparison, a trip for one person round trip from Stockholm to New York by air causes the release of more than 600 kilograms of carbon dioxide, according to the UN organization ICAO calculation.

Another conclusion of the study is that about half the emissions arising from the production of raw materials and half the production of the battery factory. The mining accounts for only a small proportion of between 10-20 percent.

The calculation is based on the assumption that the electricity mix used in the battery factory consists of more than half of the fossil fuels. In Sweden, the power production is mainly of fossil-nuclear and hydropower why lower emissions had been achieved.

The study also concluded that emissions grow almost linearly with the size of the battery, even if it is pinched by the data in that field. It means that a battery of the Tesla-size contributes more than three times as much emissions as the Nissan Leaf size. It is a result that surprised Mia Romare.

A link to the actual article with some good soundbites yet questionable statements

    https://www.thegwpf....-electric-cars/

The fact backed up by many many studies is that over their lifetime EV's and even hybrids more than make up their higher production footprint with significantly lower co2 and other emissions

  13.

For the Prius, there was a further issue, the problem that they were all made in Japan and then shipped round the world in fossil fuel burning mega container ships, meaning that each car had effectively already produced 30,000 miles of C02 by the time it reached the showroom.

Bit like the 350z then and many many Japanese built cars sold in Western Europe or for that matter all cars sold outside their country of manufacture

  14.

You just have a duty to mitigate your losses so for example if you had access to another vehicle that you could use while yours is being repaired you should use that instead of being in a hire vehicle.

Do you tax/insurer/service another car to keep on your driveway to use just incase someone crashes into your normal car??

I suspect short of millionaires most people have a car for a reason, they need to get from A to B. In my case the car is our main family car used to do all the nursery runs. A huge part of the decision making process that made us choose the car over others was the safety features is offered over all other cars on the market and something it demonstrated in the crash.

We saved for 3 years and waited for nearly 12 months for it to be delivered, and all I can say am happy that I was able to do the nursery run back in a car with the same safety features.

If I had caused the crash I would put my hands up, admit I dis wrong and try to come up with a solution, but as this accident was in no way related to my actions I'm glad at least am back in a similar car whilst the mess is sorted out.

Oh and I've fitted a dash car to the loaner, as I suspect I'll be driving around in the hire car for the next month at least.

I hope you are right but quite a few people now have told you that you may end up being responsible for the hire costs , just because you have a Tesla doesnt mean that no other car would suit your needs

Just dont moan if you get stuck with the bill

  15. I found the 370z to be unpractical even as a second/third car (I have a Skoda Octavia VRS Estate as the main family car and my wife has a Prius), found it hard to go away for a long weekend just me and the wife , it wouldn't take the case my wife uses for her frequent business trips meaning it was not useful for airport runs and obviously we couldnt go out as a family with a 2 seater

Also the zed is a little heavy to give a true sports car experience in my view, its a comfy grand tourer with insufficient luggage space for a grand tour

I wanted something with the performance of a supercharged zed yet the practicality of a family car

Shortlist was VXR8/Lexus RCF/R35 GTR/BMW M4 , ended up with a Jaguar XFR, truth be told I could use it as a daily quite happily it does pretty much everything I need a remap and simple mods would get it to about 600hp but at 510hp stock its quick enough 99% if the time , suspension could be a little harder but it handles well for a heavy car . £ for performance its a bargain

  16.

Come on then, Rich, spill the bloody beans, how 'exactly' did it happen (mechanical or pilot), was your mate alright, did the car survive? No insensitivity intended to the victims, it's a learning (and curiosity, naturally) thing. :D We see lots of these kinds of videos, but rarely have the opportunity to interrogate witnesses. :)

Wasnt my mate I had never met the chap , he was basically trying to race me , I was pottering up to Silverstone at a very gentle pace as it was around 6 degrees and wet and my car was spinning up on gentle gearshifts , I didnt go over about 60mph but he passed me well into 3 figures and then slowed down before passing me again , he floored it off the roundabout and you can see the results

His car is heavily damaged and probably a write off but he hopes to rebuild it , he is a nice lad and we have all made mistakes . I split the money with him for the video so he could take his missus out for a meal as she was in the car at the time

  17. Fitting is a doddle for a basic camera, I did it and Im cack handed at most things. Stick it to screen, pull back interior trim and push wire behind, do this around the window of the car then down the side and round to cigarette lighter, job done. Took me 10 mins?

does it have to be plugged into the cigarette lighter? I'm not too sure where the one is in a 370z. I'll do some investigations!

if you're sure it's that easy. i'll be ordering one this week and giving fitting a go at the weekend.

the ciggie lighter is above the passenger footwell so easy to route up the passenger pillar (mindful of the airbag) and across the top of the windscreen, on both of my 370's I spliced into the loom on the rear of the lighter and hardwired it in , as its much neater
