  1. Hi,

Last Saturday I purchased my Gun Metal Grey 2006 350Z....Today I sorted the insurance (£350) and tax and im on the road!

My previous car which will now need to be sold is a 57 plate BMW 320i M-Sport. With the BMW by replacing anything with non-OEM or adding your own personality to it would make it stick out and plummit the value. I am really enjoying with the 350Z is that it seems really easy to work on, parts appear cheap and best of all making it your own with your own little changes makes it individual!

Ive only had it 5 days and ive already planned the next 6 Months of small purchases!

I previously saw a silver 350z nearby (still on auto-trader) which had the front lower bumper and the roof wrapped in carbon fiber and the wheels in anthracite. That direction is where I think I will be going. On here I then found D8NMT`s car with pretty much all the mods I was planning to do! I hope he doesn't think im simply copying him!

The car is pretty much standard apart from the following:

Quick Shift unit installed by previous owner - said was imported from USA ? not sure what this is.

    Front and Rear parking sensors

Its not a GT but seems to have everything that a GT would? I called up Nissan with the VIN and they said it is not the base unit but is a "Level 2" ?

Looking forward to spend a few good weeks driving it and spending time in on the forum. Already had loads of friendly advice regarding the bloody SRS light!!!

I live in the Midlands (Near Kidderminster area)

    Cheers and hello

    Tim

  2. Just paid £350 to Adrian Flux. £350 excess

Any future modification covered (within reason)

all the usual windscreen (£90)/euro/legal. No charge for changing plate over and protected no claims. Thought it was a pretty good deal?

Im 35 with 17 years experience and 11years no claims. Clean licence and no accidents.

  3. Hi all,

Just got my 350z, very happy.

I was just wondering if there was a suggested list of parts that can be straight swapped/replaced to modernise the look?

    Ive looked at the following....

    1) Replace the wipers with the new flat type? £10

    2) Stubby Honda S2000 aerial £15

    3) Replace the orange reflectors in the side of the bumpers with clear or colour coded. £25

    4) LED Bulbs? Cant these be used if so where?

Are there many others that anyone could please suggest?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. I wouldn't do it mate. Ive just spent the weekend refitting the yellow plugs.

The garage I bought it from tried to resolve the SRS lights by cutting out the plugs. He had cut out both the yellow plugs off and had soldered wire to wire on just the drivers side. The passenger side was just left with cut wires.

The drivers airbag deployed on him for whatever reason. whether this was caused as he removed the built in resistor in the seat end of the connector plug (as above) or whether he was testing his work scoping it with a multi-meter or even the heat of him soldering that ignited the fuse!

I would suggest unplugging the airbag connector on the car/loom end, then using a very small precision screwdriver pull up the little white tab on the side of the plug. It clicks out about 3mm. Then the wires and end connectors can be pulled from the plug.

The connectors on the seat side of the plug have a pin that pushes into the middle of these connectors. If you then look at the connectors on the end of the wire and push/bend the middle section down a little bit so that the pins on the seat connector have to push slightly harder to get in and are now a tighter fit.

I only know this as I had to pull out and rewire/solder every single pin on both seat and car connectors and looked how they pushed together to make contact.

    See attached

    Good luck!!

  5. Confirmed... Just plugged the yellow wires in one way around and it worked. Disconnected battery and swapped the yellow wires over in the plug. It still works.

I would "guess" that the polarity doesn't matter for these yellow wires and the airbags...

NOTE: Please remember that all I have done it proven that the wires work and the SRS light is supressed either way around. I haven't tested that it deploys or anything like that!

  6. Hi,

I've got both seats out of the car and have a code that isn't in the service manual.

It kind of makes sense as it is a mix of "passenger airbag" and "drivers airbag" codes.

If there are multiple problems for different airbags would it show one after another or mix them together?

I assumes that it would do each error in turn?

Can someone please confirm this, I hope I haven't got a different new problem!

    Thanks

Attached a screenshot of the seat airbag codes and also my new code, maybe it will help someone.

PS. Getting so sick of bleedin airbags!!!!

  7. Hi mate,

I am planning to put the yellow plugs back on as they have previously been cut off.

I don't know which yellow wire on the loom goes back to which yellow wire on the seat!

I guess my question is, Are the airbags non-directional!!

The wires are identical, yellow with a dash of black every 10cm. Im guessing they aren't but don't want to blow my air bags getting them the wrong way round!

I want the airbags for the protection, but im thinking of putting a resistor in until some-one in the know tells me about the airbag yellow wires :)

  8. Have you done this yet? If not maybe hold fire mate

ive bought a z with the drivers seat airbag deployed and the plugs have been cut out and wires soldered direct. Ive got some new seats to go in and also some replacement yellow plugs/sockets to add back in.

If you look into the end of the yellow plug there looks to be something possibly a resistor between the two sides/wires.

Ive measured between the two terminals with a continuity tester/meter and there is DEFINETLY something joining them up. (See photo) as the meter bleeps to show they are joined.

    Good luck

  9. Hi,

thanks for the reply. I managed to take some photos under the drivers seat today and I can see how the airbag may have been triggered.

It looks like the loom coming from the floor has had the outer sheath pulled back and the yellow plug has been completely removed and the yellow wires soldered directly in line to each other????

Q: is removing the socket completely like this sometimes done by you lot if the socket is faulty?

It looks like there are just two yellow wires from the main loom from under the carpet going to the airbag is this correct?

The light for the airbag is just flashing away not on solidly, do you think I may be able to install a new seat and reset it? (I guess only way is to try)

Another option would be I guess to fit a resistor like this:

    Thanks, Here is a photo:

  10. Hi all,

Im looking to buy a 55 plate 350z at a local garage, it has been sat for about a year with the airbag deployed in the side of the drivers seat. I asked what had happened and he told me that the SRS light was on when it was traded in and the mechanic managed to trigger the airbag off when he was trying to reset the light!

Is this possible? Can someone plug in a code reader or mess with plugs enough to do this?

He has a set of identical leather seats he bought around 6 months ago waiting to be fitted in, I said I would take it off his hands and tidy it myself. He literally hasn't had time to sort it out and ive had my eye on it for a while at the back on the compound.

    1) Is there any way (apart from the obvious) that the airbag could have been triggered like this and like he said?

    2) Will the SRS light now be on permanently needing the airbag module removing and clearing?

    3) Is there anything else I should be wary of? Is it a simple seat swap?

    Thanks in advance

  11. Hi all, Just about to buy a 350z.... The mrs said to me "Just double check that you can take Leo (3 1/2 years old) once a week to nursery...... I assumed that a front facing car seat would be fine! Im gutted to read that I "might" be putting them at risk. One of the advised recommendations is: Ask the vehicle manufacturer how far the airbag comes out as it deploys and whether it is safe to use a child seat. Does anyone have this information? I am fine in buying that Recaro seat. My question is do many other people have FRONT facing child seats in their 350z??? Thanks in advance.
