Could get you in touch with my builder?
I would appreciate that, PM me details?
-
Just spoke to a guy called Sol at EUROJAP engines in manchester. He said it wouldn't be a problem and I'd be looking at 2500+vat for a rebuild. Would involve a strip, measurements etc, order new parts and fit including remove/reinstall engine. Would take 2-3 weeks to complete. He also said I'm welcome to come view the workshop and look at current jobs that they are undertaking, before opting for them to do the job, which sounds promising.
If anyone is local to Manchester it would be ace if you could drop by and check them out, maybe a group rebuild for lower prices?
Fen,
I've been down to see them but not sure if i'm going to go with them as an option.they're 20 mins from me and seem a great set of guys. Said he would throw a load of parts on for me too but just not sure... the workshop seems a little unequipped.
They obviously do a lot of machine work in house and they seem to know what they are doing and know the tolerances but th workshops a little cluttered and cant help but feel they might loose something. They also seem to handball a lot of heavy stuff on FLT
Pay them a visit if your considering it buddy

Are they in the north west?
Could you give me some contact info, seriously think we could get a deal if we did both at the same time?
-
Hi matt, that sounds good, he does sound fairly knowledgeable, let me know what you find out, I'd head over but he is about 3hrs away. But it's good that he is willing to show you the premises.
Maybe if we could get a group discount that would be ace
haha i'll certainly mention it!
On a serious note, if hes as good as he says he is and the work is good maybe he should come and join the forum... i'm surprised at how many people are looking at rebuilds i thought i was the only one might be worth him getting involved there could be a lot of business there
I'm planning on a trip up in the next couple of weeks
I have a place near me in Trafford Park Manchester that do engine rebuilds and ive already been to see them though i was slightly put off after my visit (now a last resort i think)
-
You tried Jez @ Horsham?
Hey Stu, Any more info on that? I'm speaking to as many as i can at the moment
cheers,
Matt

I I'm going though a similar scenario at the mo.
Spoke to a bloke called Jeff at nissan 4x4 centre in Tyne an wear. They have a 350z in gulf colours. Advertise on eBay aiming at repairs for navara and Elgrand but know the VQ35DE apparently.
He told me it's about 2k for a rebuild including
- engine will be stripped and all parts cleaned
- All piston rings are replaced
- Crank is re-polished and re-ground if needed and refitted with new bearing shells
- The head is pressure tested and skimmed, valves cleaned and re-seated, new seals fitted
- All head and engine gaskets are replaced with oem equipment
- Injectors cleaned and tested
- Radiator checked and flushed
- Coolant replaced
- Oil and filter replaced
Possibly add price of new pistons and rings(of your choice) if cylinders need reboring.
He said he can collect my car but would prefer if if I took the car and checked out thier workshop and meet the guys who would be doing the work. Which sounded reassuring as the known dodgy rebuilds don't want you seeing anything. He said a drive in drive out in 2 weeks.
What do you guys make of that?
I Fen,
I've also spoken with Jeff and he is offering me the same thing
I'm making the 6 hour round trip to go and see him in a couple of weeks, i'll let you know what i think if that helps
perhaps we could get a package deal ??
He seems to know his stuff and i'm holding his company as good maybe at the moment - will see when i meet him if i go ahead

I've just had a new quote in (I was curious so put the feelers out). Latest is: SUPPLY AND FIT + RECOVERY
( Engine Fitters Reconditioned Engine - Warranty)
LOW Miles ENGINE £ 2600.00 1
£ 2600.00
- Units are sourced from low mileage vehicles for rebuilding
- Engine is dismantled to its individual components for inspection of damage
- Engine is fully de-greased and cleaned
- Cylinder head is pressure tested for cracks and then Skimmed to renew the surface of Cylinder head, If Cylinder head is cracked we replace Cylinder head with another tested unit.
- All valve seats are machined and fitted with new valve stem oil seals
- Camshafts are checked for alignment and polished
- Cylinder head is re-fitted with new head Bolts & new head Gasket
- Correct torque settings are applied during tightening of new head bolts
- Engine Block is crack tested and new cylinder liners fitted
- Engine Block Oil Channels are cleaned to ensure there is no blockage within oil gallery
- Crankshaft alignment is checked and crack tested and then ground to specification
- New OEM Bearings Fitted
- New OEM Oil Pump fitted on ALL rebuilds
- New Piston rings are fitted to ALL rebuilds
- Pistons are checked and replaced if required
So these guys don't do the water pump, injectors, timing belt or radiator work - it's more just the engine itself. For an uplift they'd do the other elements though and would bring the cost under £4k. Would have to supply stronger internal parts if they are wanted and they'll fit without additional labour cost.Thing is, if I do get the rebuild done, it'd be to prepare for FI next year (or the following), so worth it in that instance. If you're just looking for a new engine, this might be a better way to go about it.Got an 07 Rev-up.Be very very careful of companies that offer services like this , some in fact many just clean up a stock engine from a breaker and sell it on, the industry is rife with it unfortunately.
That one posted "Auto Engines UK Ltd" is one of them . ANY company that will only accept cash should be avoided as you have zero protection if anything goes wrong.
If you really want a rebuild the best option is to use a specialist , its not cheap but many people find out its good value AFTER trying alternative means
I would never deal with cash for something like this, it screams scam and i wont be going near that one

I would upgrade to an rev-up oil pump while you are in there as well.
Is there a problem with the standard oil pump?
-
I've been looking at a rebuild for a while. I was quoted just shy of £4k for a fully refurbished engine, with forged pistons an £800 on top of that.
This includes:
- The engine will be stripped and all parts cleaned in a chemical bath
- All piston rings are replaced
- Crank is re-polished and re-ground if needed and refitted with new bearing shells (both big end and main)
- The head is pressure tested and skimmed, valves cleaned and re-seated, new seals fitted
- All head and engine gaskets are replaced
- New timing belt fitted
(please note that if your vehicle has more than one timing chain/belt there will be an additional cost for this part)
- New water pump
- Injectors cleaned and tested
- Turbo removed and cleaned (If applicable)
- Radiator checked and flushed
- Coolant replaced
- Oil and filter replaced
The above comes with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty.
I'm seriously considering going with this next year, although as I'm just going through oil at the moment it isn't pressing. Do let me know how it goes either way.
I know the forged pistons are around that sort of money but i dont see the point unless your doing everything else forged (and unless your going for FI)... 4K seems reasonable for what they've quoted though i have had better quotes. including rebore and new piston heads... i guess it will change from garage to garage
Who was that with??

Buy a fully built bottom end from torqen for £4k. Failing that TDI north in Warrington can rebuild an engine and have a machine shop that does work for them.
What comes in the bottom end? crank etc on mine should be fine so not looking to replace that
TDI wont carry out the work they recommended Abbey
A wealth of goodies.
Wiseco pistons
Eagle rods
ARP Rod bolts
ARP main studs
Ceramic/moly piston coating
Block inspected and cleaned
Block redecked
Block bored and honed
Block water passage cut for HR head gasket
Rotating assembly balanced
Crank magnafluxed and journals re polished
New moly coated race spec main bearings
New moly coated rod bearings
Block prepped and assembled.
What would be the advantages of all this tho? I am on a budget and i just dont think its practical. Sure it would be nice to have all that but i'm not going FI and just happy to have a good honest 280 hp back

What's happend matt?
Hi Nick, The motor started smoking about 4 to 5 months ago and although it still drives its that bad now that i'm burning more oil than V power!
Diagnosis at the garage was "Rebuild" Its been SORN for the last two and a half months while i save up
had to part with a load of stuff to get to this point and i dont want to give up until its back on the road (hopefully soon)
-
thanks for the heads up, I've already spoken with Abbey and they're too expensive for my budget (yes sadly i do have a budget for the build) ive had budget prices ranging from 2.5K - 10K
I can't do the build myself as i would need to hire a workshop space / ramp and only have time to work on it at evenings and weekends I know i could have the machine work done myself but dont know the tolorances and spec
I'm not rushing into it but ive managed to sell some bits and just want to get some fresh numbers in my head

I'll call these guys today, I had a bad experience with them a while ago though I may visit them tomorrow morning and have a chat with the guys and see how they are with me
