I'm with marzman I wouldn't expect it to have had a rebuild but you never know, so what had caused this and what work are they going to be doing mate
Hi Mark,
Not 100% best we can figure is, the car was burning oil after about 4K rpm on full throttle. I think i put this down to poor oil maintenance as i had serviced the car a couple of time to find only around 2.5 Ltrs of oil in there. So its obviously been burning it.
Looks like i'm having all the usual consumables done. Bearings, Seals, gaskets but also the timing chain while the engine is out. Got a pretty good price from Nissan (i know shock horror) the whole kit was around £800.
Should be like a new one when its all done

Hi folks!
My car's currently off the road for a rebuild and the garage have informed me (and invited me down to show me) that my lower control arm has moved off the bush. I know i can replace the whole arm complete with bush but they have suggested i "Polybush" them.
Is there a trusted supplier for these polybush parts?? The garage have having trouble finding some
thanks in advance

Hi everyone,
Sorry to dig this thread out of the woodwork but i thought i would let those interested the engine has been dismantled and i am proceeding with the rebuild as soon as we can confirm exactly what is required
Took the car to RE Performance in Bury and the lads there have been great so far!
So it looks like all 6 cylinders have seen oil and there is some heavy glazing. clearly the oil burning has been present for some time. Ken at RE Performance tells me that the bearings on the engine look brand new and although we're changing them anyway it looks like the timing chain guides are in very good condition.
He thinks the engine has been rebuild previously and has had new bearings and timing chain. Will keep you posted

Thanks for all the info, hope to book this week but where is all the interest?

Hi, just a couple a questions sorry for the bombardment,
are you putting up hotel info for the three nights stay over (friday night, sat night and Sunday night) ?
your routine seems to not head north of Inverness so we're not doing the "500 coast road" on this trip? (this is totaly fine just wanted to check)
just need to know about the end of the route, are we going to finish on the Monday night in Mull of Kintyre? If so, i'll need to grab a hotel there also before i make the trip home on Tuesday
Also, i have a friend who would love to join us, he is a forum member and has been on quite a few weekend meets with the club. He doesn't drive a zed though, he has a C63 coupe

Thanks for the link, just waiting to hear back from the garage to see if this is acceptable to them.

Hi folks, thanks for the reply..
I have decided to go with an OEM from Nissan. I know it's a lot on top of my rebuild but right now i want to the motor to do another 85K at least so i would be happy for the piece of mind.
just means some more saving to do

I dont need to change anything.... just wanted to change the timing gear as my mechanic said he would certainly recommend it while he does the rebuild. Parts from Nissan are around 1K
-
Hi folks,
i wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction, I don't want to go to Nissan if i can help it.
Are there any good aftermarket kits available out there?

How did you get on with Ken?
I'm going to see him on Sat (i was supposed to be going Sat just gone but was out for my mothers birthday and too much wine was consumed)
I sounds like he'll be able to do it and the money seems good too though we only briefly discussed it, hopefully if all goes well with my meeting with him next Sat i'll get the work done with them. cheers for the heads up on that one dude
No worries.
I'm getting my bottom end fitted there.
What's he roughly charging if don't mind me asking? Is it drive in drive out ?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He said 1000 quid. Drive in drive out. But I'm gonna keep an additional 1000 quid aside for unexpected costs.
Been quoted 8 to 10k for labour slone in a few places just to fit the bottom end.
thats ridiculous!
He said i would be looking at 2.5 to 3k so right on the money for me... so long as it doesn't start going north of 3.5k i'll be going with them,, they;re right down the road from me
-
So far the weather is looking good!
-
if anyone needs more info on the drive please feel free to PM me back...
I've just sent a general overview of the towns we'll be passing through. a quick look on google should give you an idea on the route.
Note that i have a stop planned for lunch
I will be a passenger in my friends car though if i'm lucky i may be able to drive some of the route See you all on Sunday!
-
just to confirm a few things for Sunday
We'll be meeting at Skipton BD23 1ED. Its a large car park opposite Marks and Spencer. we've used it plenty of times with no problem. Please arrive respectfully, we want to continue to use the spot
aim to arrive for around 9:00 am (we will leave shortly after 9)
There are likely to be events on as its remembrance Sunday.
I have sent details of the drive via PM to all registering interest above

I always question companies that can offer a fixed price on rebuilds before the engine is stripped, inspected and measured , only then can you tell what parts are going to need replacement.
Exactly! But if they detail what they will expect to change for the price then you should be fine as long as they say what issues the engine has and what needs to be done to fix/improve it.
I agree with what your saying the company i work for is the same, we strip down blowers and repair them...
however, i can give the customer a budget price and i can let them know what i intend to change / replace. whats consumable parts and i can also tell them what sort of costs they might expect if it needs, machine work, additional parts ect
I have fobbed off loads of companies who wont give me a price, no point in them stripping my engine down and then saying "oh yeh its going to be 8 grand to rebuild" (I wont tell you who quoted me that but i have been quoted 8K for a rebuild) !
