  1. If your gonna build an NA VQ engine it won't lend itself to adding FI to later as you would want low comp for FI and Hi comp for NA - just a thought. :)

Only a complete prat would put 11:1 Hi comp pistons and a set of cams in a VQ35 engine then add an SC - imagine the detonation problems!

(But it still revs to 7,500 - you need to look at alternative oiling systems above that - the oiling system does not like going over that RPM as the pump is crank driven and it becomes a limiting factor)

small turbos running 5-6PSI can run on 11:1 CR pistons, but i'd only use them for N/A. 8:1 comp pistons would lose me about 10% power but would allow me to go FI later. Dont think i could justify spending £20k on a 350z engine though. so probobly wont happen.

  2. Is that the most cost effective way to get hi-revving NA thrills? What about other cars like an E92 M3 or Z4M which already have these characteristics engineered into their design?

Z4M is a cracking car but im not keen on the styling, and the interior is horrid. Same with the M3, great car but a bit to golf club for my liking. Plus for the 17-18k mark id be looking at things like the e60 m5 or some sort of AMG merc. Pleanty of hot audi's in that range too. Plus i'd be like everyone else, i like to be different

Id love to see a proper all out NA DE build. Go for it man, 350+rwhp would be very useable on the road and ultra responsive.

Thats what im thinking. As much as i love big power its how you put it down that counts. and you cant beat N/A for that.

  3. Right:

Ive had a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket and im looking at doing something special to the Z.

Ive had the idea of building an N/A block with Forged internals, new cams, hi comp pistons, gas-flowed head/ect. General opinion on this is that 350WHP is possible with the right mods + tune. It might not match the power of a supercharger kit but the redline can be moved up to 8k and it will rev like no tomorrow so will be much more responsive. I looked up prices/labour ect and it comes to roughly the same as a supercharger build which got me thinking. The supercharger will be easier to fit thanks to not having to rip the block apart and will make a little bit more power which might offset how revvy the N/A build would be. But wouldnt be as reliable as an N/A build and could blow the engine at random leaving me with a bigger bill. The third option would be to mix them, get reasonable cams and lower comp pistons installed for a decent power gain N/A then get the supercharger fitted at a later date and maybe hit 500WHP or whatever.

There is very little info about N/A builds, only ones they people with very very deep pockets have built and can experiment with setups whereas supercharger builds are fairly common and have massive support available which makes it easier in the long term as my pockets arnt as deep as id like.

My question really is if anyone has experience with both of these side by side, or any advise they would like to throw into the pot. At the minute im leaning towards N/A as im not a fan of forced induction and an 8k redline sounds epic but for simplicity and power can you beat a supercharger build?

  4. Im allways losing the back end of my car,

On purpose, good skills. By accident, you need to re-evaluate your driving.

No offence intended, not picking on you, I think I know exactly what you mean. Just using your post as a reference to make a point.

I dont claim to be a pro-driver, but i know how to handle the car enough to keep it in line.

We have a long standing argument with the council/mining firms as the roads end up covered in clay/mud and turn them into an ice rink. My route to work follows the exact same roads all of the lorries use to get onto the motorway so its allways a nightmare, Even my mum in her 1.4 307 has trouble keeping traction. On one particular stretch the car will spin its rears in 4th from 3krpm if you plant it. Point taken though, if you keep losing the back the chances are its the pink squashy bit behind the wheel thats the cause. Rarely is it the car/road.

  5. Im allways losing the back end of my car, I live near a quarry, a mine and am surrounded by fields. So the roads are constantly covered in mud or dust. On one particular set of bends there have been 4 accidents in the last month due to mud on the road and people thinking their nigel mansell. Running 295/30/18 tyres on the rear doesnt help either, Worst one so far was the 4 wheel drift i had on afformentioned bands this morning. Luckily nothing oncoming and managed to pull it back in just before coming off the road. Cant wait for the snow.

  6. just an FYI when doing this. Most hockey pucks wont fit square on a axlestand and risk slipping off. Best answer is turn the stand 90 degrees to normal and chamfer the underside of the puck so it sits flat on the main part of the stand. Helps avoid it slipping off. The stands i have have very curved edges so the puck would have to bend, the ones in OP dont look to bad though. Depends on your stand.

  7. this happened to a lad i worked with. he posted on facebook at 4am stating that he was still out drinking. then turned up at 8am hanging out of his a**se. I know the guy who looked after that case quite well and while they could only use the facebook posts as evidence they couldn't use it solely to dismiss him. As if he had turned up for work in a fit state and done his job they couldn't have done anything about it as its his own social life. Im not 100% sure of how it works but i'd definately challenge it. The statement isnt offensive or aimed at anyone, more workplace banter.

  8. Probably increase fuel use as you'll be driving a lot more just to listen to it...

This and I drive with the window down more further reducing economy (I think that's supposed to reduce economy by 5%) :teeth:

Below 30mph you lose 5% economy, around 70mph you lose 15% or so. Air con drops economy by around 10% across the board.

Still worth it to hear the bark i get in second when flooring it at 3kRPM

  9. i work for a large courier company. I either look after international freight for multiple large companies (l'oreal and paisley freight are my regulars) or look after international freight for the midlands area. It sounds impressive but the pay is s**t and i basically answer the phone and send e-mails. Pays the bills though.

At points in time Ive spoken to most of the traders on here and some that arnt, including an issue with one of my own orders which was entertaining. Ive also had to try and explain to mclaren why a box of pistons ended up in Germany rather than at their HQ and also apologise to ferrari for dropping a pallet on a 458 front bumper. Keeps me entertained at least.

  10. You should definately tell your insurance company about the remap. Since it adds very little by itself you can probobly get away with a 10% power increace (i gained about 40BHP with plenum, HFC's exhaust and a remap combined so it wont be far off anyway)

Im insured with sky insurance and if anything have over declared my mods, mainly just so i dont get admin fees later down the line but better to be safe than sorry if i do bin it.

  11. https://www.gov.uk/d...s-number-plates

i was debating getting some pressed black and silver plates but im not so sure now. Ive seen pleanty of cars around running them. I know their illegal on an 05 zed but their still perfectly road legal. The small plates arnt however. Any ideas?

    https://www.gov.uk/d...s-number-plates

    I'm guessing they're not legal.

their perfectly legal for pre 1973 cars as they were standard back then. Alot of old style mini people run them with no issues. wether thats because the car hasnt changed since the 60's im not so sure.

  12. No Couriers will insure any type of LCD screen. Because of the delicacy of the electronics where even 1 loose wire can render the item completely useless they wont touch them. A private courier for that sort of distance will cost you £200 or so but will fully insure the item and deliver it the same day.
