  1. Yeah you're right Wasso, the photo was for my original enquiry for one of the 50 Shades of Shadow Chrome, he had those in so gave me a bell to have a look. Didn't see the anthracite or bronze in there today. I'm a little concerned something too dark will make the wheels look tiny. I quite liked that finish but I'm not paying that price.

  2. Yeah, for the dip I think.

TBH I was quite pleased with the revised £360 and putting the new rubber on too (I realise it takes no extra effort), given nowhere else will give me a courtesy car or wheels, whilst it's being done. It'd cost me a few quid for a rental or taxi commute, so that makes a big differnece to me.

I'm not worried about the work, the stuff they did before is good quality.

Went to another place, they wanted £380, no courtesy car. They also ran this place down a bit, which I always think is a bit unprofessional IMHO.

  3. Just been to have a look, really rice finish on some M5 wheels. Liked it.

Moaned about price and he said its a 3 stage finish and that's why £600. However could do anthracite or a deep bronze for £370 including fitting some tyres I may get delivered there. Courtesy car too. All of a sudden seems like a good deal!!

Think either anthracite or bronze would actually be quite nice on a GM.

  4. I'm in Blackpool so it's usually cheap up here. This lot did do me two panel resprays and some corrosion repair and some bump removal for £450, which I thought was bargain prices TBF. Was a little shocked at £600, even with a paint finish instead of powder.

Thanks for the fast responses gang, I'm supposed to be there in 30 to have a look at the colour.

  5. Just a quick sounding out hopefully. Had a quote for my Rays to be acid dipped, corrosion & kerbing all sorted and painted in a dark chrome variant. £600.

Seems high to me, but I have no experience in this area at all. I had a similar job quoted with a powder coat finish for £400. Thoughts on these prices anyone?

  6. Weird madhatter, I was just thinking about this to give my boot release a little boost and protect the paint. Did a quick look for these on the 3M website, found some promising items in the "bumpon" section, but they come in packs of 3000!

    Anyone want 2998, 50p each. ;-)

  7. It's not a website for Ultimate Finnish Brides. I'm not affliated in anyway, they just emailed this morning, apologies if re-post.

  8. Looks immense. I always fancied myself as a driver from hours of karting as a youth, but it looks SO much more serious in a proper car. Good minerals IMHO just for getting out there with even the THREAT of ice!

  9. Maybe leave it the professionals next time Stu. Never seen such a pigs ear made of such a simple job. Your comments above really made me laugh so I'm sure I'm not the only one amused by your misfortune.

Pleased they're on and looking great.

    :-)))

Cheers David, that's exactly the kind of encouragement I need!!

Anyway, got there in the end, minor damage nicely hidden and shouldn't cause any major future problems. I don't see any reason why that brake light should ever be touched again. Also, in my defence, it wasn't my fault the stupid bolt was being a pri*k, although some of the damage cutting the head off could have been avoided by someone with a longer temper!

I've learnt another lesson too, always allow for 3 times as much day light time as you predict for any job. If my short comings, plus Alex's excellent solution help just one person who this happens to, it's all worth it.

Anyone want to buy some pre-facelift brake light clusters, only minor damage....

  10. Just a couple of little things this weekend, plastidipped my driver's door armrest bit, as it was scratched to death.

    Before, uurrrggh

    After, yay

    IMG_1555_zps230706a3.jpg

Having done that, I've marked the swine already. Can you lacquer over plastidip to toughen it up? If so, how do you make it matte finish?

Nice easy one here, popped my cargo in.

Facelift LEDs brake lights in too.

  11. Whoop whoop, from the jaws of defeat a victory is snatched!

Slopped on some hammerite to the newly "polished" surface, if you look extremely closely there is a minor colour mismatch. I won't say where, in case you don't notice. Did some historicals as well whilst the brush was out.

    IMG_1562_zps3a4ecb3c.jpg

I then used a highly sophisticated technique to test the new brake light, employing a handy bit of trim, already off from doing another job.

Apologies for the filthy footwell, I am suitably embarrassed.

    IMG_1548_zps50fb48b8.jpg

Bish bash bosh, fully LEDed up.

    Job's a good 'un.

Thanks for the positive comments yesterday, I needed it after a 20 minute job decided to try and wipe out my weekend.

PS - The unorthodox deployment of some boxed, yet to be fitted, boot struts whilst working in the back particularly pleased me.

  12. Never mind grammar, the education system is turning young people out that can't even do basic maths. Heaven help us. It is embarrassing that, as mentioned above, workers from other countries seem to be educated to a better standard.

I like to blow some checkout assistants' minds by flashing a tenner when paying for, say, a £5.30 item. Then when they've put £10 into the supercomputer and it says £4.70, rustle up the extra 30p for a fiver change. This technique actually made one person's face implode, proper Derren Brown style.

    PS - I know it's childish.
