  1. welcome and all the best with the new toy.
  2. always had fairly good results with megs liquid clear coat wax. the more elbow grease and stuck in you get, the better the results (obviously). saying that - i do see the OP's point to an extent - mine sometimes looks as though it's been polished / gleaming simply after a decent wash. although I wonder if that's because previous owners kept it well waxed....?
  3. welcome. look forward to seeing photos of your white zed.
  4. fair shout, but what i mean is will it really damage the engine sitting for 5 mins?
  5. So are we saying that it's really bad to let the car warm up at idle under any condition? Just thinking what with winter coming up - I'd always start the engine and run for five mins minimum whilst scraping ice, snow etc off the panels and glass. Is it really that bad?
  6. Bullet magnet - I think you missed my point. I was merely querying whether this was normal or not, as the summer tyres didn't respond like that at a similar temperature. I haven't had winters on before hence the seeking of advice. Dan - thanks for that; makes sense.
  7. Had the same experience tonight - actually I'd say much worse! Going across some out in the sticks back roads, and the temperature according to the car was 6 degrees. Had massive amounts of wheel spin on trying to lay down the power and the traction control working all the time, even fourth gear at one point! Is it a case of the winter tyres simply not cut out for full throttle acceleration, pretty confused now...? This was on dry roads as far as I could tell.
  8. Hi, Noticed yesterday in the wet that the nokians I swapped to on the weekend were not particularly great under duress. Floored it in second a few times and had the back end squirming and fishtailing like crazy - the vredestein summers definitely seemed grippier in the same conditions so any ideas? I was testing them at not particularly high speeds on accelerating after just turning into a new road and didn't expect the fighting for grip....amusing but anyone had similar experiences? Temp was around 11 or 12 degrees - that anything to do with it? Conversely I had the same from the summer ones around 7-8 or so. I'll perhaps try the same thing when it's colder and wet on the nokians and see if they're better than at double digits.
  9. Cheers chaps. 35 was what i went for.
  10. Hi, I've just swapped over to nokian winter tyres on gt wheels. Do I still use the standard pressure of 35 psi all round? Thks
  11. You'll love the car - welcome and enjoy
  12. will keep an eye out for this car - where in leicester does it tend to frequent? Mitz - hope all's good with you and the team. any current prices on droplinks?
  13. First time visit to Cougar Store today for the P1. Fantastic service and communication prior to even taking the car in. Thanks to Mitz and the team for a thorough and competitive service package. Very local as well.
  14. Can a mod or anyone else advise?
  15. how do you mean? sorry but i really need an idiot's guide here; not done this before (ashamed to say it) myself..... any photos of this diff on the rear / jack? what about torque wrench settings for the locking nuts please?
  16. Running VUS on mine. Been very impressed so far, though would probably try the Eagle F1 next time (a bit cheaper than the MPSS).
  17. Hi, What with the change of seasons and all that, a mate and I will shortly be swapping over the RAYS for the GT Wheels that are wrapped in winter rubber. I know the temps aren't yet consistently 7 degrees, but they will be soon enough and there's a lot more wet and grim weather coming now. Please could anyone advise as to any basic pointers to bear in mind, such as the torque wrench settings for the wheels, any jacking hints (presumably one corner at a time is the way to go), and so on. Are there any pinned guides on changing wheels? Couldn't find any on searching. I've never even attempted to look at the spare wheel in the boot, but should there be a jack / toolkit in there somewhere? My friend has jacks, breaker bars, torque wrench, sockets etc so guessing that will suffice. Thanks in advance folks, PdG
  18. Just wondered what people's recommendations / preferences are for something that offers the best combination of looks, poke and economy for around the same money as a zed? May have to part with my 54 plate next summer in order to save for a house deposit - as much as I don't want to, it'll have to go sooner or later. 12-18 months time. In the meantime thought I'd see what the best alternatives are - presumably a3 tdi or that sort of thing? Nothing like that will match the zed on looks or performance, but don't want to compromise too much if possible.

    strange noise

This is most helpful, and I'm relieved it's normal. Thanks a lot chaps
  20. Hi all, Ever since I bought my Zed, there's been an issue that's been perplexing me. The car has been ultra reliable and I've not had any problems at all, really pleased with it. It's just this one thing that I can't work out what it could be. Basically, whenever I start the car and begin to move off, within 10 seconds or so there is a whirring / ticking type sound that comes and goes within 1-2 seconds, and doesn't return. Sometimes when I've just so happened to have been pressing the brake pedal at the time of the noise, the pedal has pulsed. There are no fault lights on the dash or anything like this. The noise always comes within seconds of moving off, and at no other time. Wondered if it was a CV joint issue but it doesn't matter whether I'm turning or pointing straight, it's almost like something automatic is kicking in. I don't know if anyone else has had this issue, but I could really use some advice here as haven't a clue what it could be, and whether it's normal or not (I'm guessing it isn't). Thanks in advance PdG

    bird mess

Came off within minutes of wetting the car prior to washing and holding the hose over it for a while. Baked on crud more than anything else I guess, but unpleasant mess nevertheless. She's lovely and clean once again now, knackered though

    bird mess

Much to my annoyance, have noticed a huge round brown patch of bird mess on the roof. Went out to try and wipe it but to my horror, it is rock hard. Plan to wash the car tomorrow-only hope that moistening it will help. Don't have any products for that sort of thing so any tips would be appreciate for any damage limitation. Wonder if the same has happened to anyone here. Didn't recognise it as bird mess as it was huge.
