  1. Yea love the Bronco but not sure I still look good in a check shirt !

Mustangs are getting on for £40K now ... putting me off a bit ... a Corvette is 'only' £70K

Haven't they always been getting on for £40K (£37,330 - to be exact for the one I want)?

  2. The more I think about it, the more the track choice baffles me.

With the money being thrown at this, you'd have thought they'd be able to use either a real track, or at the very least a well-known and well-used airfield. Sure, that might have put paid to any secrecy, but it would've given them serious credibility.

To run cars on a 'track' that requires you to turn around and run it backwards is utterly bizarre.

I think the track is a contractual workaround, so that they could keep an element of TG... although other car shows do timed laps at circuits... It's the only explanation I have for such a terrible choice.

I've warmed to TGT over the last few episodes, although my expectations were so low after the first few it would have been impressive if they'd got worse.

  3. Impressive numbers, thank god enjoying driving isn't all about numbers though. I'm more with the comment above about the great sounds of cars than with something silent with a tablet display on the dash that in any modern city cannot ever use the full power of the car in any case ;)

Totally agree. A lot of modern diesel saloons would give a Zed a run for it's money in straight line performance, but I have 0 interest in owning one, because they look and sound awful (For the most part).

  4. eBay stuff may be perfectly fine, but it also may be utter sh!te that is a real pain to return. You are far better off paying for a well known, tried and tested brand from one of the suppliers on here. You will need o2 spacers to avoid a CEL. What about MOT time as de-cats will not pass the emissions test?

  5. problem with stripping a car like a zed is that it quite quickly becomes unusable day to day, and you haven't actually saved a lot of weight. its a heavy car, take out 100kgs and its still a heavy car.

That said, I've been in a couple of fairly standard zeds on trackdays and they perform well anyways - if you're thinking of tracking a car id start off in a fairly standard zed (perhaps with just some brake upgrades) and see how you get on. if the bug bites, you can then decide how much to invest, and what compromises you're prepared to put up with - or alternatively you might find you're better off buying a cheap bmw/mx5 and going to town on it, knowing its not your daily driver.

reducing weight is great if you can get big gains for free, but brakes, tyres, suspension and driver tuition will make you faster round a track.

What he said. Start with driver tuition as this will be the cheapest way of going faster round a track.

  7. I watched the TG Burma special yesterday and it made me feel sad. It is far from the best TG special, but it just seemed natural and unscripted (Even though it definitely was). It is leagues ahead of TGT though in terms of my enjoyment.

Episode 3 was a lot better than the other 2, but I will never watch them again as I do old Top Gears. It seems like they are trying to play characters - Hammond in the latest was so unnatural it was cringe-worthy. It's like they are aiming for a completely different demographic... which is OK, things change, but I'd like to think that they could also include something for people that have liked watching them for the past 10+ years. The new show is devoid of the intelligence and subtlety that you sometimes got with TG and this glaringly contrasts with the high production quality.

Maybe it will get better whenever the BBC clause ends that clearly prevents them from making a show as good as like Top Gear... I live in hope...

  8. One of those cars that you could have bought a few years ago and are now stupidly expensive. I love them.

I don't see the point of owning one and only driving it less than 70 miles a year? Surely he/she drives it to get it detailed and that's it...

  9. So anyone recommend any PC builders online??

Scan... if they build machines would be a good shout. Personally, I don't think I've bought any component over the years that wasn't from either Scan or Overclockers. They are always good for customer service, which is really what you want if anything ever goes wrong or needs to be returned.

    Edit: They do... https://www.scan.co....mputer-hardware

  10. I used to build PC's fairly regularly and although more expensive usually than pre-fabbed, you generally got a better spec. The prices for PC components nowadays, especially anything mentioning "Gaming", is just ridiculous. For me, it no longer represents good value for money building a gaming machine. When my PC finally becomes incapable of playing the latest games, I'll probably get a PS or XBox with a keyboard and mouse converter. This setup is now the price of a decent graphics card and is only slightly worse in terms of graphical performance.

Why do you want a PC btw over the PS or XB? A decent machine that will play the latest PC games at full res / highest graphics settings will come in at around £1k... and that will be pretty middle of the road components.

  11. What's a 'one connect box'?

It's a box that Samsung TV's have. All of the connections and processor etc. are contained within it... the theory being that you can upgrade the box if new features become available which the panel can support but would otherwise not be possible to upgrade if contained within the TV. It remains to be seen if this actually proves to be useful or just a gimmick. I'd suggest the latter.

Also, don't do what I did and plaster the Samsung cable into the wall without some HDMI's too... as I'll have to dig the cable out and add new connections if I ever get another brand of TV and/or Samsung change the connection cable...

  12. Let's hope they get the silliness out of their systems in the next few episodes. It's all nicely shot, but the content is pretty dreadful so far. Their track isn't very interesting.

I left work early to see it and was really looking forward to it, but massively disappointed. I would say at this point it's less enjoyable than the new Top Gear as at least that had some car content.

I really hope it gets better... :(

  13. Well this year I am unfortunate enough that I'm not able to drive my zed over the winter months.

fixed that for you ;) put some winter tyres and have at it! its a modern Japanese car, not a million pound Ferrari from the 1960s. It'll be fine!

I'm with Brillo on this. Unless you have a better car than the Zed to drive over winter, then drive the Zed. Never seen the point of driving a worse car for a few months... unless you are actually snowed in for 4 months. You may also do more harm than good as regular usage seems to prevent stuff from breaking / seizing. Leaving your pride and joy to rot for 4 months may actually be worse for it that a bit of salt spray and rain?

  14. Given that GT has seven times the budget of TG, I don't think it would be unreasonable to have expected something a bit different, but there you go.

We've only seen one offering so far, but I can't see it being drastically different from TG - not with the 3 presenters and producer. The majority of people, myself included, wanted TGT to be a bling Top Gear and that's kind of what we got from the first episode. I suspect, they will gradually bring any planned changes in slowly as to not upset the natives.

  15. Funniest bit by far for me was when the 918 won the electric only drag race, and for the first time Clarkson actually conceded something: "OK, you've got the best milk float" lol. Was rooting for the laferrari though, and very surprised at the McLaren's performance, or lack of. Porsche punching above its weight

I think you can take all of that with a pinch of salt. I've seen the same test that Chris Harris did on the same circuit where the P1 was quicker using the same tyres. I've also seen another test where the La Ferrari was quickest of the 3 around another track... deeply impressive bits of kit.

I watched the episode last night and was a bit disappointed. Not because it wasn't good, I really enjoyed it, I think I have just been waiting for so long that I had over-hyped it in my mind. I'll certainly be tuning in again next week and far more enjoyable than the new Top Gear... which I also enjoy watching, just not as much.

  16. The only time mine has ever failed is when the headlights were pointing too low...

I find MOT's baffling, especially advisories. I had one last time stating my numberplates were starting to delaminate. This time, absolutely nothing and no change to them?
