not sure about the system but i've had all the options from standard cats to test pipes
standard definatley restrictive
unsilenced decats sounded harsh
silenced decats were not much diffferant
sports cats seems to sound deeper and engine pulls more smoothly also passed mot with these
all on an unbranded sports system
also didn't have any trouble with engine management light with any

for the record guys i do have some experiance in this sort of thing diy turbo capri,x19 and golf gti ,v8 into capri, bmw and ,nitrous mr2 gt turbo so as much as i'm making it up as i go along
and a z newbie i have some idea what i'm doing. i've had my z for 2 years had 3 differant exhausts on it ,decats, silenced decats and now sports cats and recently changed the engine(dont want to do that again)
that said i dont know it all far from it (dont tell my son i said that) so any comments or suggestions are much appreciated

my thoughts exactly like i said at the start a lot of talk and hearsay about the subject but not from many people who have any actual experiance of it
or the ability to do it themselves

yea i dont disagree about the oil system if it aint broke dont fix it but it wasn't designed to be run to the rear of the car and back again
and looking at the scuffs under mine from all the huge speed bumps around here i'd be paranoid about it worst case is i try a dedicated system and it kills the turbo
it was a cheap chinese knock off and i'm doing this for fun so i'll give it a go any way

does anyone have a rearmount turbo setup on a z there seems to be a lot of talk and people slating this setup but not from anyone with actual experiance of one
yes i know its laggy but most of my driving is around town 30mph limits and when it's not i rev the s##t out of it
i'm going to start my own rearmount soon a little winter project so if anyone has any actual experiance of this or tips i'm all ears
Already got the turbo twin scroll gt35 gonna make a quick spool setup for it
and i know it goes against public opinion but i'm seriously considering a dedicated oil system with a cooler really dont like the idea of running the oil feed all the
to the way back
was gonna run the oil pump through a speed controller fed from a pressure sensor to give me control of the oil pressure should extend the life of the pump as well

just fitted a lightened flywheel and an uprated clutch to mine seemed silly not to change it as i was replacing the engine good job too i dont know how the old dm flywheel was holding together dont know what people are complaining about the chatter is hardly noticeable and definatly more revvy i was going to stick with a standard dm but im going to do a rear mount turbo setup next year and looking at the one i took out i dont think it would last long
-
been looking into this myself wont be till next year as i've just replaced my engine due to a horrible knocking noise , couldnt find where it was coming from after pulling it out it turns out to be the flywheel falling apart
but at least i have a decent engine to boost now.
anyway to the point from what i can see the rear mount setup is easy to do as a diy project yes it's laggy ,the turbo has to sized carefully usually a t04e or gt35 and you have the complication of having to scavenge the oil from the turbo generally with an electric pump which can be troublesome but it's a simple easy conversion and by the time the air reaches the engine through all that pipework and an intercooler the charge temp is pretty cool important if youre running a standard high compression engine which i will be

I got mine from tarmac, the sound isn't that much different which i'm happy with!! The bloke fitting them said they were a right bastard as the bolts were awkward to get to and ridiculously tight!!... But hey ho, all done, and he fitted my belts while the car was there.
Think i'm going to go with the mid pipe silencer on fleabay and y pipe tbh.. £200 for just the Y pipe is stretching it a bit too far
yea will probably get mine from tarmac, recommendation counts for a lot and the price is good have to wait till payday
paid 116 for my y pipe 120 for the exhaust and 40 for the decats off ebay all new but it took me a month to get at that price so if u cant wait
then pay the money
-
where did you get the hfc's got silenced de-cats in mine with my system it's just too noisy
-
I have the same y pipe mine came from toyosports ltd haven't fitted it yet much less restrictive than the original build quality ok i'm happy for the money.

hey guy's has anyone technical knowledge on turbo's i'm trying to reduce the load on the electric oil pump i'll be using for this project
what i want to know is can i reduce the oil pressure to the turbo as the load/boost drops off the reason i want to do this is the oil pumps
seem to be a weakness in rearmount applications
