  1. i bought a cheap pair of ebay cats still in good condition after approx 6mths and passed mot but if you've got the money i'd still go for the better quality berks/invidia (i'm just tight)

  2. God you lot are good

I've still got my paper licence with 6 points on it none of them are valid any more but can't be arsed to get them removed as i'd end up with a photocard one

    3 for 60 in a 40

3 for hitting a copper who jumped out from behind a tree in front of me with a speed gun ahh fond memories

  3. when i had my Mr2 gt turbo I was talking to someone on one of the forums and he'd been running one of the chinese knock off turbo's for nearly 20,000 miles and no problems can't remember which turbo it was, but he was running 1.5 bar boost and as for the lag i dont mind it i quite like the kick in the back you get from laggy setups i'm not too sure what it's cost me so far, more than it should have but i've changed my mind several times mostly with the oil system i'm on my second pump, second oil cooler and filter head because i decided they were too small, my third oil tank and the anodised an fitttings and pipework really add up and two bottles of argon for the tig at £60 a go but like i said im just playing it beats sitting in doors watching crap on the tv though it also seems to have taken priority over me using the gym which is a pathetic excuse as its at the end of the garden

  4. yea if i'm not happy with the turbo there are other options holsett hx35 ,to4e-60 as i said at the start i'm just playing the z's just a toy as long as i dont kill another engine (that was painfull) i'm not worried

  5. cant remember if you have said already as it was a while ago i read the rest of the thread but what are you doing for an air filter? are you making a custom airbox to protect it from the water and dirt?

I was going to but space is rapidly becoming an issue might just put a cone filter straight on the turbo and see how it holds up i was going to hide as much of the oil tank/pump etc as possible with an ally tray which would shield the filter from direct spray anyway

  6. if he decided to buy a car without test driving it now that would be silly

No it wouldn't, I've done that twice! :D VXR220 and the 911, both purchased without driving either.

could i possibly interest you in buying some magic beans

put the sight glass in for the oil level

    IMAG0323_zps7f77b107.jpg

got all the oil system sorted other than the oil cooler as i'm waiting for an an10 fitting

    IMAG0321_zpsb3f9bedb.jpg

ran it up bypassing the oill cooler sounds quieter than it does with the back box on also much more definate burble

just got to sort out the charge pipework and fit the intercooler or aftercooler(depending on your age)

  9. at the end of the day he asked for opinions some based on actual experiance of both cars some not but still opinions which everyone if entitled to if he decided to buy a car without test driving it now that would be silly

  10. I've had my 350 over 2 years but test drove a couple of z4m coupe's as my wife wanted one there's no denying it's good in every way and more comfortable than the 350 but it just didn't put the same stupid grin on my face

  11. sports cats is one of these meaningless terms people throw around

the cpi number is the number of cells per square inch generally the higher the cpi the more efficient and more restrictive the cat is i think most standard cats are 400 cpi and higher

so called sports cats usually have a lower cpi which improves flow

  12. If you're impressed by that increase in MPG from cleaning the MAF, just wait until you discover those other 5 gears...

    lol

I get 20-21 mpg with my perf mods (have run out of NA mods to do..).. that is with tune. I've thought about cleaning both MAF's.. but with the low miles on the car and getting 20-21mpg I think it best to leave the MAF alone unless you are experiencing a very noticeable issue.. like 13mpg.. good lord.

When I was doing my data logging.. driving full throttle in various gears.. sometimes getting up to 135mph .. ie: 4th gear run.. the worst my MPG got to was 15.7 .. 13mpg, wow. What year and how many miles are on the car?

this is a new engine i blew the last one but that was doing the same mpg 53 plate and i rarely get out of third

  13. Nice work on the oil circuit. Is this going in the spare wheel well or under the car? Was there not an off the shelf tank suitable (maybe you answered that above, sorry)

    it's going under the car

    IMAG0310_zpsa1a311d0.jpg

    IMAG0311_zps214914a1.jpg

there were tanks available but not with all the connections i wanted

still waiting for a couple of connectors to finish the setup and i still need to get gas for the welder will hopefully get something done on friday

  14. 13mpg... holy @*!#, do you just plant your foot to the floor every time you get in it?

I can't help it have you heard how good they sound with a decent exhaust

it's now setteled at 18 mpg

  15. I just cleaned my maf sensor and my fuel consumption just went from an average 13mpg to 19mpg havent been driving any differant and it seemed to run fine before just a bit rough on idle

much better now i've cleaned it is this the sort of differance you normally see ?

  16. got most of the stand alone oil system sorted this afternoon

    IMAG0302_zps460817d4.jpg

the oil cooler is roughly where it will be i'll find out tomorrow if the weather's good i'll get the back box off the car and take some measurements then i can make some hoses up and run the system up

the hose from the pump to the pressure regulator is a temp as i'm waiting for some fittings

  17. Since the stand alone oil system seems to be working with the new pump i decided to make the oil tank today didn't quite get it finished as i ran out of gas (another £60)

I'm making it out of 75mm box section sloping down from the inlet where the drain from the turbo will go to a small perforated baffle at the bottom of the slope to stop the oil surging back (hopefully)

    IMAG0274_zps27e9f996.jpg

    IMAG0278_BURST001_zpsd5d8e2cd.jpg

    IMAG0280_zps1203b8d8.jpg

    IMAG0283_zpsee2732fb.jpg

this is the other end where the outlet will be

    IMAG0287_zpsdef7051a.jpg

this is the inlet end again hole cut waiting for the weld on an fittings i'll be using

    IMAG0290_zps0e4af6f0.jpg

these are the weld on an bungs 3 x an10 and 1 x an6 the an6 is the oil return from the pressure relief valve

    IMAG0289_zpsf0f6d9f8.jpg

    inlet an10 welded on

    IMAG0292_zpsd330704a.jpg

outlet with my earth clamp still on it and oil filler on side

    IMAG0293_zpsd2e86d28.jpg

and this is where i ran out of gas

  18. I agree about adrian flux i've been with them many times in the past when i had serious mods that no one else was interested with

and probably will be again when i get the turbo fitted

And since they are showing up on the forum does that mean they might give us a discount (dont ask you dont get)

  19. ok first off been working all week just got home to find my turbowerx pump had arrived had to rush straight out into the garage to play so please forgive the quick and dirty setup

    IMAG0242_zps9522c2b2.jpg

i was having trouble with the previous pump maintaining a steady pressure the exact same setup using the turbowerx pump is working a treat making 35-40psi just ticking over

    IMAG0247_zps259eb173.jpg

i also have an oil cooler to go into this setup though i need to get an oilstat should get a chance to play later this week if the missus lets me (yes i'm under the thumb)

also might make a new tank (again) something with a lower profile with some baffles in it maybe in ally if my spool gun shows up

no replies to my previous post i see, was hoping someone might have used a quick spool valve an have some insight never mind trial and error it is

  20. just got a new pressure gauge as the only gauge i had was from my nitros mr2 and started at 100 psi not much use when i'm only going to boost to 7-8 psi

have tested my wastegates and the standard wastegate starts to open at 7 psi as i hoped

the second wastegate that i'm using for the quick spool setup starts to open at 3 psi

so to the point of my rambling does anyone have any experiance with quick spool setups where should i start to open the valve ?

if i open it too early will it cause the boost to drop off again i get the feeling it's going to be trial and error

    Any thoughts ?
