  1. Theres some weirdness on this thread ......... why anyone would go from a Z to a half arsed FWD beige TT I really cant understand, and as for the last post ........

    1. A standard Zed is quiet too, Until it has an aftermarket exhaust

    2. Look harder

    3. Spend £150 on a CD player?

    4. Same as 2, funnily enough :D

    5. Its more money because its twice the car, its a V8 Jag FFS.

    6. See your final sentence.

XKR's are Zed money these days and trust me, if you are into what they do they absolutely **** on a 350Z. Never mind a Diet Audi TT.

Well, the standard Zed's not THAT quiet....

I don't think anyone would is disagreeing with you. My point was that the XK8/R were slightly out of my budget. Had I another £5k and could afford an extra grand or two in running costs & insurance etc, I might have bought one over the Zed. But I probably would've just gone for a 313 instead :D

  2. I tell you what, I can't actually believe that Zeds are trading for circa £5k now.......I think it's because I was involved with them at the start and spent £22k on my first and £26k on my second, it's hard to comprehend them only being worth £5k now............makes them a bargain now!!

Yep, well, look at the prices of XK8s and 996s (and any Alfa from 2011)!

i can believe it, i got my XKR for a bargain price, the previous 5 owners lost about 70k between them

Yes I saw a lot of XKRs going for four figures but was put off by the potentially wallet-busting cost if an SC went "poof". The insurance was also £400 more for me and my girlfriend said they're grandad cars (even though I think they look and sound great). Zed seemed more reliable and slightly cheaper to run. Hope you maanged to find a good one though. Mum's "boy"friend has a 2009 4.2 and it's very lush indeed....

  3. And we think zed prices are bad. I saw a mint 2005 RX8 with 21k on the clock for sale this week for a fraction over £2500. Imagine the part ex price a dealer would give you on that?

Indeed - although they're known for being even thirstier than the zed, less reliable and slower. Not the prettiest car either. £2500 is very very cheap though. 90% depreciation in 7 years is pretty horrific though.

  5. However, not so much a dilema for new 370z owners as reversing cam is now part of Connect Premium, which is well worth the money with or without the camera.

If you have a 2010 car then a cam can be fitted quite easily and is nice to have, just depends how much cash you have kicking around. I'd be worried personally if a few hundred quid breaks the bank in a 370z owners mind as they are expensive cars to run! Will cost you way more in insurance should you bump into something ;)

Indeed. Just seen the cost of a replacement connect premium hdd and nearly had a heart attack :scare: . £10k!

  6. OK so pads changed with front shims - squeal reduced significantly but still some noise from the rears. Will put those on next weekend when I have more time.

Brembo pads not as good at stopping the car, but they're good enough and the earsplitting shriek from the car has disappeared

  7. I've just had a nightmare with this problem. Will hopefully be getting it sorted over the weekend. Basically, the previous garage put new pads on, which were a racing compound and very squeaky. The also neglected to replace the shims. Tried copper greasing them. Worked great for about 100 miles, then came back, worse than before.

Ordered some standard brembo pads and some used shims from a dealer here. Will let you know how it goes.

Also, general build-up of dirt and brake dust around the calipers can exacerbate the problem, apparently.

  8. After a conversation with Jim the other evening I have registered for one of these when they eventually sort things out and ship them...

Anyone else on the list :snack:

    Linky - http://www.raspberrypi.org/

Basically it is a mini unix pc about the size of a matchbox, mainly for programmers but judging by the spec I can't see why you couldn't use it as a multimedia PC, they even have an HDMI output...

Read a lot about these. Not sure about using it as a HTPC/media server. There's no HDD (SD media capacity is limited & expensive). The software isn't exactly "plug & play" and you can't expect high streaming performance from a barebones device like this.

Perfect thing to give your ten year old though, to get him Lulzsec'd by the age of 15

  9. Neil, the car looks great. It's all down to personal taste and I'm just an old fart who simply doesn't like mods.

I do think they're a bit superfluous on a car which has very limited "tuneability" though. A spoiler or other bits of "aerodynamic" plastic might help on (say) a scooby modded with an extra 200bhp (which would alter the dynamics of a car, compared to the factory version). But it just seems a bit silly to me to put a spoiler on a car which has an extra 10bhp over a standard one. If it made that big a difference, Nissan would've bolted one on there for us...

  10. And whatever you do, don't be tempted to put side skirts or a front lip on it. They automatically reduce your IQ by 30 points.

    Really?

I don't think sideskirts look to shabby at all???

    carrun002.jpg

Would look better without them neil. imvho. Make's the car's mid section look chubby like a 370z.

Alloys look sober enough though. More "weed dealer" than "cocaine dealer"!

  11. OK so I've done a bit more research. Apparently Pagid's are popular on the track and have effective velocity-killing ability, and I can certainly vouch for that. They stop the zed.

But they're also known for squealing badly. Apprently this is less of an issue on the track for obvious reasons. Apparently pagid's are common on porsche (probs why the porsche garage used them - had them lying around maybe). Anyway, I'm going to leave the current set of discs on the car and change the pads for standard brembos (with shims from OEM nissan pads). Might as well have fresh pads on the car that haven't been chamfered down. They're not going to break the bank.

My bro has offered to change them for me on sunday, in exchange for a milder beating after getting fired last week. Hopefully they'll be a damn sight quieter than the bat-killing pagids.

Massive thanks to Alex for his advice and competitively priced gear

  12. 10 man points added for admitting that, but 20 man points removed for admitting that ;) ;) ;)

Take it to another garage to do in that case, I would. But definitely just shims for now, I'd leave the discs & pads as they are.

Its more to do with the fact that I live in an apartment block, with no tools and no space on the road outside to work on the car. Not really practical...
