  1. I found this out the hard way with making the Plenum Spacer, and through trial and error, well I found that manufacturing can be done in a number of ways. The 6 nylon spacers that sit within the plenum chamber are costly, you'd wonder how they're made.

My first visit to an injection molding factory. Took my sample, left them to quote me happy and returned to the office with an email.....

    Excitement! :scare:

    More like OMFG!!

£2,400 for the first 120. That made them £20 for each nylon spacer. Okay so that cost included the tooling, but still I'd need to sell thousands to recoup my initial setup costs.

But through investigation of process, materials, purpose and requirements, these parts are actually "turned". Still I have to pay a fair whack, because in their terms I'm only asking for 120 at a time. If we were talking 5,000 I'd be seeing a pretty decent discount.

The same applies to all the parts made for the spacer, I'm producing these in small volumes because I don't want to be caught out with hundreds of spacers that won't sell. Okay so profit is low, but leftover stock should be minimal once I stop doing them.

Manufacturing is very interesting I have to say. I actually found it rather satisfying to make something further improved over another manufacturer, especially as my first ever venture into this game.

See if it was a big deal to the vauxhall owners I could have a descent order size. But its one of those types of badges people are unsure of. Its the fastest astra diesel, faster than an ST if tuned. But, its not a vxr so its like putting an ST badge on a focus 1.6 that is as fast as an ST.

I do appreciate the replies, not burning my dreams haha. Atleast its set in stone im not going to be getting some badges for the price I had in my head.

  2. I had this process and had a topic about it a few months ago. I decided i was sick of the Infantry and being treated like a child and wanted a new career. I looked at all the good money jobs, working on rigs and started looking into that, generally 45k+ depending what your doing. But, its alot of time away and not sure if id enjoy the job. I just looked at the money. Then I looked at close protection abroad, working in iraq and afghanistan, again good pay, but away alot and I actually hated soldiering, So i only looked at the money.

The job im intended on doing now is working for police scotland, always been an interest, but the money isnt amazing. Its descent money but its not rig or CP money, but ive given up looking at the salary now. I will spend 33% of my life sleeping. 33% of my life working and 33% of my life doing whatever i wish to do. No use spending 33% of my life working in a job i hate, to earn alot of money to spend on 33% of my life which i wont enjoy because i dread going back to work, to make sure i earn money to keep living a life i dont enjoy. If i were you, I would ignore the money. The more rich a person i speak to, the more they dislike their job. Not everyone, but the majority.

  3. So 3D plastic with a metal-style finish on part, with colour on 1/3rd? From a non-existing design? Yeah, dirt cheap!

Dude, they're going to be mega-bucks. You'd be lucky to get stickers made up for £50 for the lot, let alone badges. Much better off either looking at stickers, or not bothering I think. I assume this is for a joke? Bit much to be spending on a laugh.

lol it wasnt a joke. I literally have no idea on prices of things in life. I just take a rough guess. Just a little bit off this time :bangin: Not gonna put sticker on my car when the rest are badges, so I guess my good design in my head wont work :/

  4. A company would have to design and make a mould for a ridiculously low quantity order... If you find someone willing to do it, you'll be looking at way more than £100!

Bah. I thought it would have been different since theres all the computer design software out there. Ive seen alot of the badges, all various sizes but all have thick D's (no pun intended), so it just glows aftermarket, want mine a bit more subtle.

  5. Basically identical to the VXR badge on the back of the VXR. Just like the ST, VXR, RS, badge. I think their just plastic, and i would just put some double sided sticky on the back, no need for the company to have to sort out that side. exact size is 140-150mm diameter, if that helps at all. I dont own a vxr badge so just going by what the forums have came up with.

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WgU2qR07L._SX300_.jpg

Thats an image of the VXR badge, would just be the R getting changed for a D. Presumably theres a way to do it on a computer. Im just a biff when it comes to this sort of stuff

  6. Hey guys, looking to get some custom badges made up. Looking to see if anyone knows any companies who do this. Preferably if you have used them already and are happy with the quality.

Basically, I want the "VXR" badge but saying "VXD" in yellow instead of red. Going for a black/yellow car. Order would only be around 5 of them, so may make it a bit trickier. Price is not too big an issue, unless its ridiculous like £100 for 5

    Thanks guys

    Dean

  9. So the choices ive got so far are between mich ss and eagle f1, lets see how much I can haggle off kwik fit. Nightmare company for letting work on your car, but they can stick a tyre on :D

  10. I dont take corners fast, bit of a granny driver. Only really push a car on a straight road, main thing im looking for is ones that are good in the rain. I was looking at falkens. Already know mpss are great tyres, just not sure if ill need them for a fwd 150bhp diesel lol. Half the car my zed was

  11. Had vreds and supersport tyres for the zed and both seemed highly rated for the zed. Would this be the case for fwd car aswell?

Just picked up astra and need new tyres, are mich SS just an all round best, or is there other options that may be just as good for fwd?

  12. Hi I have just started looking at zed's and seen yours on auto trader your local to me., can you tell me what happened to the n/s/f wing? Was there any other damage.

N/s/f wing is booked to get sprayed, editing it now as the spray garage has postponed me 2weeks to get it sprayed, which puts me in a bad situation since I have the new car arriving in next few days. Knocked car into a lampost when I first got it. No damage other than the fender, bumper was replaced and fender is booked to get a respray. Slight bit of rust on the corner of it. Currently changing price on all the websites it on to £6500, until it gets resprayed then moving the price back to 6999 once it has come back from the garage. So the car is still availible for sale, at 6500, until its resprayed ^^

  13. I removed whole wrap from my car in 1day. Did you heat it up the whole time during removing it? Heat for 5secs, peel fot 5secs and carry that on. If you did, may just be cheap vinyl?

That looks like a right nightmare haha

Yeah just stuck like sh!t to a blanket, a normal wrap would probably pull away fine this broke on every angle

maybe just because its carbon? Or garage used cheaper brand? no idea, but that just looks like it ruined your day  best to just wrap things yourself, easy as pie and you know exactly whats going on :D You getting roof sprayed gloss black again?

  14. I removed whole wrap from my car in 1day. Did you heat it up the whole time during removing it? Heat for 5secs, peel fot 5secs and carry that on. If you did, may just be cheap vinyl?

  17. Its 09 3door, got the exterior package too :) most likely getting remap to try get 200bhp, after ive replenished my savings account

Probably wont wrap this one since its already black, maybe go for the stealth look of full black :D

  18. After about a year of being on and off with zed running costs, I have finally decided to sell the zed, even though I never wanted to :( left the forces, so the pay is alot less and although I can afford running the car, the maintenence when something goes wrong is stripping my bank.

So, still wanting speed, mpg and a nice looking car, went and bought myself a vauxhall astra 1.9cdti sri 150. Thankfully, cheaper to modify than the zed, so I can still have em.. astratis?

Will be putting car up in for sale section and autotrader. End of an era :( will still be on forum though, lurking in the "other cars" section flaunting a diesel
