Thanks all, assuming mine are original, then they are 16 years old on 91,000 miles.

Dare I ask what do you think I would be looking at for a pair of new ones from Nissan?

More than you'd want to pay :P Seriously the OEM stuff is more than the aftermarket parts which sound nicer, I said I'd just keep it stock but as soon as bits fail your better off buying something fun and cheaper thats just as good if not better quality.

Agreed, if you're not bothered about a noise or power increase HFCs might cause more hassle than they're worth. To guarantee you won't get the warning light pop up you'd need a remap to turn the rear O2 sensors off (£400), plus you'll always have the worry of passing the emissions test unless you know a "friendly" tester.

@ZMANALEX might have some second hand oem cats available.

Nothing wrong with secondhand cats when I bought the z originally and the cats needed replacing I did get the Berk HFCS they've never had any issues with the test and it's had about 6 mot's with me at different garages so no winks or nudges needed. I did get the warning light a few times but since replacing the rocker covers last month so far the light hasn't come back so perhaps the light is triggered by oil in the exhaust. Either way second hand is fine and the Berks (or similar) have the exact same fitment. They sound nicer and from new cost less

  3. Amazing! These are basically stronger more powerful versions of the OEM ones? I'd buy some 100% even before buying a big heavy spoiler I had updated struts and new OEM versions of this and the boot refused to open so this would be great.

How much would they be? (Sorry I looked at the website!) Looks like a decent price.

Do you know how much more powerful they are than OEM?

Got a P0430 code now. Searching the forums it seems an exhaust leak can possibly cause this?

Also is it possible that running for 6 miles or so with two coil packs wired wrong way round could have buggered the cat slightly? Any way of cleaning it if so? Seen all the additives and stuff but not sure if any good at best of times, let alone for this. I reckon there is a slight whooshing noise from the exhaust towards about 5,000 revs plus. Exhaust seems quieter than before as well, less of a hum on motorway.

    MPG seems unaffected.

Leave it on idle and stick your hand underneath to see if you've got an exhaust leak somewhere in the system. You can normally feel the breeze against your hand if you do

Wires swapped, running sweet as a nut. Thanks very much again guys.

Lesson learned for a dummy like me haha.

heh good stuff, although annoying a garage managed to put them back wrong :/ it's not a huge mystery if you look at the harness

Not unknown for the coil packs to be incorrectly connected to the wrong plugs.

You'd hope not but it's true the plugs on the passenger side aren't connected in the order they leave the harness however it should be obvious from the lengths where they go.

The problem with the Alpine is the £50k + price tag yet you can get the same fun in an Mx5 for less than half the price?

Renault like most manufacturers trade on past history and labels to market alternative brands to get the money in. DS for example for Citroen.

The Zed was always supposed to be an honest reasonably priced fun sports car if it goes towards the £45k+ price tag it will fail here.

Anyway nothing will happen until the actual first production model is out and reviewed by all those moaning YouTubers in the states

Let's be thankful Nissan decided to stick with a Zed, SUVs might be king as far as sales are concerned but we cant all live on pie and chips sometimes a bit of exotic kebab is a nice change. :D

Forgot to mention my other half has an M2 and it's ace, fun performance handling yet rear seats and a decent boot - you can have both rice and chips!

I just like that my giant rocket barge is just as fast as all the M's but looks like boat makes for fun times on the roads :P I dunno personally I like the big BMW's for the luxury and effortless performance and I like the rarer more unique stuff to have fun in even if it's slower or not as finessed.

But they are in the same field. 2 seater or 2+2, sporty designs, turbo engines, great to drive for fun or as a daily. Price is near as dammit the same, and as I’ve said before it’s the residuals and thus the monthlies that’s make them such tempting propositions. £45k-£55k is where we all suspect the ZP would sit anyway, so it’s got some really tough competition. You’re right, there is a market for the ZP, but it’s a tiny one. Even the Alpine is being withdrawn for poor sales, and that’s universally adored.

Btw, if you’ve never driven a hot 2 series you really should. They’re amazing.

I think Alpine is too niche though? I can't stand the round lights (I hate Bentley for that reason) Porsche seem to be the only company who have made circular lights work on modern cars. Dunno why Renault are using the Alpine name in F1 I imagine most of the world doesn't have a clue what it is. I've always liked that Japanese sports cars don't fit in some sort of progressive range. I don't want the car available in 50 sizes with a million engines. I guess I'm obviously not the usual buyer of such things though.

  9. It's been like a year since Ive driven it and it's gathered a lot of dust in the garage but I finally got round to replacing the rocker covers last week and it's now sailed through its MOT so it's back and legal to drive! Apart from a dead battery and two flat rear tyres which were leaky before being garaged it sprung to life straight away and feels great. Also the O2 sensors have yet to trip so hopefully fixing the leaky covers means no more sensor warnings.

Have to say I've missed how it's felt I've been driving the fancy expensive car and missed feeling as connected as the 350 makes me feel :)

Because a thread is useless without pictures....

Market is bare? It’s fuller than it’s ever been: M240, Cayman, A110, Mustang, Supra and the venerable TT. In terms of drive alone I would expect the ZP to be better than only the TT out of that bunch. That’s a tough sell.

And that’s before we get to the mega hatches that the world and his wife seem to want these days. I can see why Nissan won’t bring it here.

But none of those sit in the same field, if you want to aspire to a nice 2 series that's fine but I've never got the point of the baby beamers. I have a big beamer and I love it I'm not sure if want a mini version. They're also mostly all way more expensive than hopefully this will be. If you want a Japanese car then the supra is your only option and your still left driving a z4. Maybe the UK market isn't bothered about things that look different but given the chance there's a market. People still look at my 17 year old 350, nobody looks at a 17 year old TT.

  11. It better Eve tually find its way here. The Z is a hugely popular car but the problem was the 370 never really offered much above a spot and polish on the 350 (sorry owners!) It didn't offer anything new and there were other things on the market. Now though the market looks pretty bare and the proto offers a big step up Vs the 370 I think it would sell pretty decently if given the chance

  12. I'm finally replacing the rocker covers and getting the car back on the road, throttle body off and it's quite dirty. The plenum has similar dirt but not as extreme. I assume this is the result of oil leaking in? Anything else worth checking/fixing while I'm.in here? I'll get the body cleaned up..

£30k on new car - didnt think £8k was overly bad for part X - I paid £12k two years ago so taking retail at £12k and trade at £8k over 2 years seemed as expected. Was thinking along the lines if worth £9k as private sale and get £500-1000 off new one then might be worth it.

KK so if you've not negotiated a reduction on the sticker price then as you say it's a straight 8K for the car. I wouldn't be faffing round in the hopes of saving a grand over a car you really want.

Seems my car is afflicted with the common clonking noise from the front - so has anybody have good condition preferably new banana bars and drop links??

Do both need replacing? Drop links are cheap and easy to replace, I'd narrow the issue down before replacing everything you can.

  15. 37 minutes ago, ricochet said:

They are new arms (moog)  with the super pro bushes transferred from the old arms .it wouldn't be these bushes would it?

Drop links do not seem to have any movement in them,  but in the large scheme of things not to expensive  , what might be next to look at ?

Glen the mechanic is experienced and a former racer and cannot see anything obvious,

    thanks for the reply

    JC

The level of movement is often hard to spot, you can either undo the drop links and see if they seem stiff and firm or loose and wobbly or if you can replicate the clunk on the driveway or whatnot just undo the droplinks and see if that cures the clunk.
