    TPMS

Having recently lost a rear tyre at speed (the inside wall failed and the tyre turned inside out!), I was initially very impressed that there was minimal impact on the handling of the car - just increased road noise! Having had the car recovered and new tyres fitted began to think of things that might warn me of problems (if music was on then I may not have heard the change in road noise) - has anyone installed a TPMS system - currently running a 2011 cabrio if it makes any difference. Saw this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rupse-Pressure-Monitoring-External-Displayed/dp/B00ANJ4SHO/ref=sr_1_18?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1370424837&sr=1-18&keywords=tpms on amazon and the idea of using the inbuilt display rather than a box on top of the dash sounded good. Anyone with any experience of this device (or any other TPMS)? Thanks Andrew
  2. I think the £150 is optimistic - £339 is the rumour I heard! Ridiculous! Andrew
  3. Just had a ridiculous phone call from Nissan customer service - confirming that my maps in my 2010 roadster are the latest available! I said but cars that came out over a year ago have a more up to date version - the reponse from Nissan Customer Service? " Have they?" was the surprised response - thank god the engineers are better than customer services. Then they thought there might be an update late October or November but now really sure. Andrew
  4. Just came into possession of an ELM427 cable - found in the boot well of a VW EOS just bought for the wife - anyone used one to monitor what the 370 is up to? Recommendations as to software? Or is it a question of getting a better cable? Thanks Andrew
  5. From my experience using a USB stick is useless - 256 tracks is the limit - whatever size USB stick you use (Premium Connect in a 2010 Roadster) - £65 for a used ipod with an 80GB disk is a much better solution with full control (well sort of) but for some reason you have to use a real ipod cable in the car. Andrew
  6. After having an investigate of another car (and chatting with friendly local dealer) - it is slightly more variable! Not only do some cars have them on left side rather than right side (even dealer does not know why!), whether you can "self-fix" depends upon how the cables has been routed. Sometimes there is enough slack to pull gently (as in my case), but in others it is necessary to remove the headlining so as to reroute the cable to create enough slack. I always thought the Japanese were rather good on quality control - all this variation in how they get built is a bit concening! Andrew
  7. Found this. http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/152628-step-step-guide-swapping-telephone-microphone-correct-side.html Investigated my roadster - and yes the microphone is passenger side and aiming slightly (10 degrees?) towards passenger, all you need is a hot screwdriver to make some mounting holes on the side facing driver and the result is the microphone is about 2 inches closer to driver but importantly aiming 10 degrees towards driver not 10 degrees away! People now say they can hear me more clearly - not brillaintly but a lot better than before! Andrew
  8. Tried outgoing volume at a variety of setting (including 100%) - varies between inaudible and distorted. If I lean over and shout directly at the microphone then it seems to improve - just makes driving harder! Andrew
  9. I see Navteq have a map update for "only" £339 Andrew
  10. Exactly the same on my 2010 Roadster - I can hear the caller no problem, but they say very difficult to hear me - usually very faint and distorted. Makes no difference where the phone is in the car, no difference whether moving or parked. Dealer view is that you should expect more background noise due to the soft top! Regards Andrew
  11. This thread http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=102&t=51366 starts on the DVD based version and then addresses the HDD based Premium Connect (dealers are unable to agree whether it is Connect Premium or Premium Connect) - basically no update for the HDD version in spite of DVD version being available and latest 370Z has updated maps - my roadster in now almost 5 months, out of date maps and no info from Nissan about when an update might be available. Thank god I bought it as a great car and not for the satnav - TomTom rules! Andrew
  12. Having had a quick play in a GTR, the Premium Connect they have has a few more bells & whistles in terms of displaying various pretty performance related things - as it is the same box as in my 370Z - I wondered arew their some hidden settings that might enable them or are they totally locked off and not available? Anyone any news? Andrew
  13. Had a poke around at my local dealer over the weekend - what a surprise! All cars with a Premium Connect system that had been delivered the previous week have maps that are dated 2010-11!!!! So if you want to have an updated map you need to buy a new car! Well I suppose that is one way to boost new car sales. Needless to say the local dealer are VERY pi..ed off and are writing to Nissan for an explanation given the fact that I copied them the response above that came from Customer Services. Andrew
  14. Anyone know what map version is in the latest 2011 version of the Premium Connect? If they are any later that Sept 2009 then it proves the map data exists. The NAGTROC forum were told that there was no update for the US maps and then discovered that new cars had an updated map. The dealer managed to get in contact with the European product manager for the 370 - apparently he is unable to get a firm date! He was also curious if we can find a way past some of the problems with the SatNav (in particular loading your own set of POIs) as driving round Europe he finds it very limiting! Regards Andrew
  15. Picking up on a point above - I would say that my local dealer - Desira Norwich - have tried their hardest as well to get an answer and are as h.cked off as I am with the customer service team. When the dealers openly complain about Nissan Customer Service ........ Oh well Andrew
