No worries - I guess I was a bit defensive With regards to the running costs - I do worry about them a bit but when I was doing research before, everywhere seemed to say that servicing etc was pretty cheap and so the only noticeable cost increase would be in petrol which I felt I would be able to handle since I won't be using the car to commute. That said, it is the only unknown I have about this whole thing so guess I can only find out in practice...

Haha - I don't think I've ever had a quote <£1000, regardless of car
-
Well for starters I'm employed now so you need not worry about that. It was bought off my brother at a discount rate and not money up front. I worked throughout my time at uni originally with the plan of saving for travelling. Decided not to travel and so have a few thousand set aside in an account which is how I can afford to handle set-up costs. Hope that answers your question...

Finally got round to trying this. First put my mum on with her 3 speeding convictions in the last 5 years: Took off £469 Added my dad with 0 convictions/accidents: Lost another £306 Total saving: £775 = 32% of original quote (of £2393) New quote equals that of when I had the VW Golf in Manchester under just my name

Hello from London (not yet Zed owner)

from a fellow London-based soon to be Zed owner -
Yeah I saw that write up - hadn't even heard of electromagnetic sensors before that! But I am just a bit fearful of doing it myself having absolutely no DIY experience Good to hear that the EPS200 has been tried and tested successfully though
-
Yeah the greater field of vision is what I'm hoping for. How much did yours cost including fitting? Because I know a few members of this forum have the PD ones and rate them but I'm working on a budget and these EPS ones are working out £100 cheaper (installation included) than any of the Parking Dynamics ones I have found...
-
Since I will be parking my Zed on the street in London I expect to be squeezing into a fair few tight gaps! Therefore, I have been looking at possible parking sensors to aid me in this and the best value for money seem to be the EPS200 - one of those electromagnetic ones that doesn't require bumper drilling. From my research I'd say 80% of people gave them positive reviews, but AutoExpress.co.uk were not such fans. I was just wondering if any of you guys out there have this installed and if so, how's it working out for you?? Cheers

Ah nice - will have to keep an eye out then! I think it is getting brought up here once it has been IVA'd. I should be driving her by now but been plagued by hold-ups Lol - that's what I'm hoping for!
-
You may want to relink with a link that isn't for mobile devices. Took me ages to actually see the listing using the mobile link. But that could just be my incompetence Anyway - good luck with the sale!
-
Yeah - think my insurance premiums are high enough without having to declare mods as well Definitely interested in a going along to a meet though - will keep an eye out for any news of them!
-
Yeah I know it is a bit ridiculous. That said, it should drop a fair bit once I am in full-time employment (very shortly!) and I rationalise it with the fact that I was paying £1.5k insurance on my 1.6 Golf as a result of it being kept on the street in the student part of Manchester So in that respect it isn't that much of a step up! I'm basically committed to the Zed now but I am getting it at a somewhat discounted rate so factoring the expensive insurance in as part of the car cost. Then once I have driven it for a year, am 23 and got a bit more ncb I'll go to a specialist for next renewal and a more healthy quote (hopefully!)
-
Where do I sign?!
-
In case people don't know - apparently 5 place grid drop for Mal and Ham got reprimanded. Should have been a lot more than a 5 place drop if you ask me. And yeah - good to see Senna proving his worth now that he is in a car that is race worthy!
-
yeah, thanks for the advice jenic - over the course of 12 months the 10 month one would work out £100 more as you say and if there is a chance that it will be worth nothing it isn't worth the risk! Definitely going to go for the 12 month one - even though the extra £350 is gonna hurt
-
Oh really? Have you seen this to be the case? Cos I thought i was on to a winner Otherwise it would be £2648 for the 12 month
-
Really? I may have to try that then - sounds like a pretty healthy drop in price! Yeah, my experience is on a 1.2 Corsa and last 4 years in a 1.6 Golf Not exactly high power, RWD! Best quote so far is £2300 for a 10 month period that if without claim will count as a year's ncb. That should also drop by about £400 once I'm employed since I only finished uni in June and currently seeking employment. From experience the fact that it's an import normally adds £500 so with my points and only 1 year's ncb considered, sounds about on par with what you're getting though admittedly for 2 months less...
-
Ahh see that's probably the difference. None of the specialist insurers want to insure me cos of my age and the big insurers automatically put a premium on it cos it's an import Then the three points on top of that. I also had a non-fault accident (guy went into the back of me while I was stationary indicating right) which shouldn't affect my premium but I'm pretty sure it is causing an increase I'm going for the same excess as you though - anything to lower the premium!
-
Elephant quoted me £2955! I only have 1 years ncb though and 3 points so am being given a pretty hard time by insurers. Is yours an import jenic? And what excess do you have?

Got this email from Adrian Flux today: Dear Mr [Tom], Thank you for requesting a quotation on your NISSAN FAIRLADY. We are delighted to offer you our highly competitive provisional rate as shown below: Total Payable:£16115.5 And that's not even the highest quote I've received. Sucks being a 22yo trying to get insured on a Zed, especially when it is imported. But yeah, thought it may be fun to get a thread started with some of the more outrageous quotes that people have received By way of a disclaimer: I appreciate that insurance quotes are done on an individual basis and for that reason, one company may be more suited to quoting to a particular individual than another. So if that thread does take off ( ) it is not to say that any of the insurers posted are not likely to quote you a reasonable amount
