  1. I think you can buy a bluetooth keyboard for the iPad. Its not something I use with our iPad. The iPad 3 and iPad 4, i'm sure the only difference is the power plug was changed to the small one on the iPhone 5.

I'm not sure if all the acrobat reader stuff works on iPad.

I found this after a quick search https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/adobe-reader/id469337564?mt=8

Yeah that the app i have Neip. 90% of my uni Adobe files open on my ipad but the few that don't give me the option to use that app and when i accept it opens everything and saves it!

  2. Do any of you guys run Parallels for MS applications or do you use the Mac equivalent such as Numbers, or do you use OpenOffice ?

MS office and Adobe etc are now available for mac. I haven't installed windows on my mac as I don't see the need or benefit from it. I have a windows netbook/work laptop that I can use for windows if need be.

My mac is only really for doing photography and music production on tbh. Im now never off it though and regularly sit looking at nothing just to be using it

Is the Microsoft office and adobe an app. I couldn't open certain adobe files. I down loaded a free Adobe app from i store and it opens all my Adobe docs from Uni. Just need word and excell and I'm sorted!

Someone told me that I could buy a keyboard for my ipad 4 and use it with word?

  3. Dave, I had a look online and i'm thinking about going for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-STCG3000200-Central-Wireless-Drive/dp/B00BP5RJRG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398602558&sr=8-1&keywords=seagate+central+3tb

It seems to be getting decent reviews.

Stuarty- Microsoft office is now available on Mac, You can also run windows on MBP if you require it.

I usually only use word and excel Neil. What I love about my iPad's is that i pick them up and use them and now and again press a few buttons to update.

But when i go to use my netbook it's really slow until it runs all the updates, security checks etc. it even takes ages to connect to my wifi each time i turn it on.

I just want a laptop i can turn on, use to surf the web and do some word processing, excel etc without all the hastle.

I gave my sister my ipad 2 and bought a samsung tablet last year. After 2 days i took the samsung tablet back to Tesco's and bought an ipad 4 and iPad mini. TBH i cant tell the difference between my old ipad 2 and new ipad 4 but that's what i like about them, there subtle updates. But the hardcore would notice the difference between screens etc.

  4. At present I have an ipad 4, ipad mini, ipod touch. I also have a Packard bell netbook for Uni work and I have a Samsung galaxy s4 mobile.

I don't really use any of my gadgets for anything fancy but id really prefer the simplicity of my Apple products and I absolutely hate windows.

I am currently thinking about changing my netbook for an apple laptop just for uni work, any suggestions?

I need to be able to use Microsoft office and adobe reader.

  5. At least you've now worked out all the sums!! I think too many people get obsessed by mpg/tax figures and forget depreciation is a far bigger cost (unless your doing massive miles)....

So what's your next car going to be ;)

Not sure TBH, if my Z4 3.0i si coupe was 25% bigger i would keep it for a while. It's a good looking car, goes well, cheap to tax (£280), cheap to run on fuel (31 mpg around town and 42 on motorway), it handles well enough for me and is all serviced etc for the next 18 months. But the small size and ridiculously hard ride is the killer.

I don't think I would want a fast hatch or fast family saloon like focus RS or Audi Rs4 etc. i also don't want anything French either. I think its got to be a coupe, preferably 2 seats and 6 or 8 cylinders and reliable. The looks is the most important thing, followed by power and handling.

Finally I don't really need a car as everywhere i go is walking distance and I've got great train/ bus links to Glasgow and Edinburgh so it's just a toy/hobbie i suppose. Probably 370Z, Cayman, etc would be best options.

  6. I'm going to Orlando International Drive on the 2nd of May with 5 mates, all in our early twenties and wondered if anyone had a recommendations for while were out there. We have the tickets for all the parks but don't know much about the nightlife, which restaurants are worth visiting or any other activities etc.

    Thanks Ryan

What's wrong with Amsterdam? Something just a bit creepy about 5 young lads in there 20's going to a fun park! Haha.

We've done lots of lads holidays birds and booze, none of us have been Florida and we all think Alton Towers etc are the nuts so + the sun, the food, the parks, activities etc etc seemed the next obvious place :teeth:

Only pulling your leg, have a great time!

  7. My man maths tells me it's cost me around £800 per month over last 3 years in depreciation and fuel with no running costs because I've never changed anything and I don't think I've taxed a car either because I change it so soon!

£800/month....in exchange for driving things like a 320i :scare:

If I was in your position, have that much spare £££ to spend and wanted to change cars ever 12-24 months I would be leasing a F10 M5 or E63 AMG. Yes they cost stupid £££ to run, but at least your getting your moneys worth interms of car!

When I bought my New BMW 320i sport plus edition saloon in April 2012, I was offered a brand new M3 DCT for £699 a month for 24 months then hand it back and walk away. I though to myself who would crazy enough to do that?

Anyway I kept the the 320i saloon less than six months and lost around £5k when I traded it in and bought the same car but in coupe form in the October. I kept that for about 8 months until may 2013 and bought a z4 roadster and lost another £4k. Kept the z4 until October 2013 and traded it in for my z4 coupe and lost another £3k. My coupe has probably depreciated £2k since i bought it,

So since April 2012 I've lost £14k in depreciation in 24 months which is around £583 per month just on depreciation then add the cost of transferring my private registration etc. So your correct i could have haggled a deal and probably had the M3 for around the same price.

The other thing to note is that i only drive 4000 miles per year so if i add £1500 for my 8000 miles in 2 years it's actually cost me £15500 to travel 8000 miles in 2 years which works out around £1.93 for every mile not including insurance etc!!!

  9. How about buying a 911 and than sticking a BMW badge over the Porsche badge....That way you get the best of both worlds a new/different car, and a BMW badge :D

More seriously though the most expensive bit of any car is depreciation, the quicker you change cars the more you loss. I've worked out my 335i all in (mods/servicing/insurance/road tax/depreciation) has cost me £650/months over the last 3 years, deprecation alone accounts for 45% of that figure!!

Over the next 3 years assuming the same rate of depreciation (50% in 3 years) the ownership costs will drop to £300-350/months, purely because the car is worth less now so even though it's still deprecating at the same rate the money 'lost' is less....I can bet if you add up all the money you've spent changing cars it would have worked out much the same if you had bought a M3 in the first place and kept it rather than swapping cars every few months!!!

At least that way your spending money on something you enjoy driving rather than spending all your time driving around looking for you next car :)

  10. Thanks for all the info, folks.

My son's pretty switched on and is always respectful of others. He graduated from uni and is starting his post grad teacher training in August so I'm hoping this trip will help him grow up a bit!

The worst thing about it all is that my wife constantly runs after his arse 24/7, which is fine but she's going to be a nightmare when he's away for 8 weeks because she will have nothing to do!

  11.

Bangkok is the craziest place I've been to, if they get asked by locals if its their first time in Bangkok then tell them to say no or they may get fleeced. Everything else that happened is either a blur or not appropriate to put on the Internet

Was awesome but you do need to have your wits about you, or do what I did and get smashed on Vodka and M150 and party all night and become oblivious to all the weird stuff.

I have to point out it was nearly 10yrs ago when i went and that may behaviour was prior to having a child/partner and business, oh and don't steal a tuk tuk, that doesn't go down well at all

I've been told to keep my nose out the whole trip, but if things go tits up, who they going to call??

He's booked a flight from Edinburgh to Qatar and apparently it's the first flight from Edinburgh to Qatar by Qatar airlines ever, so he thinks he's going to be treated like royalty! Lol.

He came home tonight with a cash card that cost £22 and came with £10 credit, immediately I became curious but was told to keep out of it!

If he has to pay for this card, gets charged £2.50 over transaction and 150 baht, why not simply use his debit card??

My friend and neighbour travels to Thailand for 16 weeks every year but they don't have time to listen to his advice??

  12. Next month my son is travelling to Thailand for 6 weeks. He has booked flights from Edinburgh to Qatar and Qatar to Bangkok.

He's staying in Bangkok for a few days then flying to Laos for a few days (think its something to do with his visa). Then flying from Laos to Phuket for the remainder of his trip then travelling back to Bangkok for his homeward flights.

I've a few questions I would appreciate help with

How safe will he and his girlfriend (22 years old) be?

What's the best way to carry currency (visa debit, traveller cheques, cash etc)? His travel agent sold him a travel cash card for £22 with £10 credit and he has to top it up from his bank account. I think there's a charge by the cash card company for each transaction and he will be charged at the Thai ATM machines also. I think he would have been better with his visa debit card, but not sure.

Any advice would be appreciated and any other info too!

  13. Well done!

    I think I'm next!

    ^^

Get to the back of the line, I've been queuing for 6years :boxing:

I've turned them down 4 times now, but they're persistent, so I think I'm just going to give in and take it on!

I'll put a good word in for you once I've settled in!

  14. A bit off topic, but I feel the 370z is depreciating slower than like for like 350z. When I bought my 54 plate 350z in April 2011 it was only around 6.5 years old, low mileage, full service history and in excellent condition and i paid £7900 in a private sale.

I seriously can't see a like for like 2009 370z going for so little around September next year, as it would be around 6.5 years old by then.

    Just a thought!
