  1. I was in the same boat, bought the car with tinted windows. I always thought it must be legal as it passed the MOT. It's not checked on an MOT , but they now advise you that your windows are tinted. It's up to you to know how dark it is. The MOT guys don't have the equipment to test how dark the tint is. Yes, the limit is that 70% of light must get through the driver/passenger windows. Mine are tinted, the MOT lad said he reckons they are darker than is legal but that it really suits the car and he wouldn't change it! lol But there is now a comment on my MOT that he has informed me that my windows are tinted......so can't plead ignorance anymore. I could always call VOSA and ask them to come round and test my tint levels.....but they'll probably just tell me it darker than legal and I have to remove it.
  2. Yep, mine will happily pootle along at very low speed with my foot off the accelerator. Never thought it was anything to be concerned about.......is it?

    Quickie Q

If you can afford a 07' or later I'd say go for it. But make sure it's the later model i.e. a 313 with the HR engine (Bulge on the bonnet) and not a late registered revup (without the bulge). And just to show how paranoid I am, , Also be careful that it's not an earlier model that someone has put a later model bonnet on. But I'm no expert. I've only ever had the 313 HR so have no experience of the earlier engines. I've had mine about 15 months now and I've had no real problems with the HR engine.
  4. Occasionally had this problem. Found that pressing the button for a couple of seconds and not taking my finger off the button too quickly does the trick. But would be nice to not have the problem.
  5. I had a S14A for almost 5 years before getting my Z. I've had the Z for just over a year now, and on exactly the same driving/journey to work over 9 months (ignoring the first 3 months of 'exuberant' driving) I'm getting about 15% less in terms of MPG. On the SX I would get on average 350 miles per tank. I get the same on the Z but the Z has a 70 litre tank vs the 60 litre tank on the SX. Long motorway journeys I get 450 (And I suspect even better if I concentrated on it) miles out of a tank, same as on the SX. MPG was averaging 23. I've since changed where I work (about a month ago) which involves about 30 more miles each way on a motorway. I reset my MPG when I started the new commute. My mpg now sits around 26. Servicing/Tyres etc are more on the Z, but in my opinion are worth it. My insurance is actually cheaper on the Z than it was on the SX. Not entirely sure why.....it was a pleasant surprise Mine is a 57 plate 313, so being raped on tax Hope this helps your decision making!
  6. Did the Throttle Body Reset. So far so good. Idling normally, no hunting. If it happens again I guess I'll look at a Throttle Body clean. Just have no idea how to go about that. I open the bonnet and am fairly certain I can point out the engine, but that's about it!
  7. Thanks. Realised I kind of Hijacked this thread so started the other one. Sorry
  8. Hello again, This is another problem in addition to my erratic idle which I already posted. I can't think that they are related although I'm not very technical................ I've had on occasion had a sticky handbrake when the Z has been parked up for a while. Nothing too out of the ordinary with that. Until today. The Z had been parked up for almost 5 weeks. Got in, started up, handbrake off.......going nowhere. After applying quite a bit of power (more than is usually needed when the handbrake is a bit sticky), a bit of a bang and creak and away I went. All good. Here's the problem.... Now when I brake, I get a juddering along with a bumping noise that sounds like I'm driving over rumble strips. The noise varies with my speed, so is obviously related to the wheels turning. Seems like it is from the rear passenger side, but hard to tell. As far as I know the handbrake is a seperate system to the normal brakes? I don't see how the sticky handbrake could have affected the normal brakes. Unless the normal brakes were stuck also (maybe explaining why it seemed more 'stuck' than other occasions) and my brute force approach to it has broken something. Any ideas?
  9. Hello, Been driving the Z today after it's been parked up for 5 weeks. I drove it for about 60 miles, all seemed well. After about 3 hours got back in. As soon as I started it up I noticed it revved quite high - up to about 2000 or 2200 - which seemed a bit odd as it wasn't like it was a particularly cold start. When stopped in traffic, it is idling at 1500 and is fluctuating between 1500 and 2000. All with my foot off the accelerator. After 10 or 15 seconds of being stopped it settles at 1500rpm. Also when driving I can feel that the throttle is hunting a bit. When I'm starting to slow down and just easing off the accelerator, there is a definite bit of randomness to the engine braking. With my foot in the same position, it will go from what I would consider a normal amount of slowing down to suddenly feeling like I've lifted off the pedal altogether. Everything else seems normal when cruising, i.e. 2000rpm/6th gear/60mph/60psi oil pressure. Anyone have any ideas?
  10. Hi guys, Mine had the same issue today. The Z had been parked up for almost 5 weeks. Got in, started up, handbrake off.......going nowhere. After applying quite a bit of power, a bit of a bang and creak and away I went. All good. Here's the problem.... Now when I brake, I get a juddering along with a bumping noise that sounds like I'm driving over rumble strips. The noise varies with my speed so is obviously related to the wheels turning. Seems like it is from the rear passenger side, but hard to tell. Any ideas?
  11. Just got a fresh set of tyres (Falken 452s) and a proper wheel alignment yesterday. Much better to drive now The front toe was out a bit, now it's so much nicer. Not sure how much is down to the new tyres, the old ones were quite worn and the new ones aren't anywhere near scrubbed in yet, and how much is down to the alignment. Either way, wish I did it when I bought the car. But that said, I wouldn't appreciate it if I hadn't driven on the old tyres with a bit of dodgy alignment It was ,ahem, interesting driving to work the other evening. 20mph in 5th gear and still spinning out the back end Managed to get there in one piece and then got stuck in the work car park! Typical
  12. I've had a 57 plate GT since July. I've put about 5k miles on it since then. Never had a single problem. Do it! Get one, you know you want to
  13. Out of interest, how do you like the N8? It's nearly time for me to get a new phone. I've been valiantly avoiding an iPhone so far
  14. Are the Vredesteins any good for the winter? I'm nearing the time for a new set of tyres and was thinking of getting re-shod with Vredesteins all round.....
