  1. I'm quite new to the z club and live in the Hull area. I met up with Hamster and Alexz last week at pub near Beverley Morrison's. I think we'll be going again in the not to distant furture with 1 other. It would be good if you could make it, keep an eye on the regional meets section P.S looks very nice
  2. Just a note for those who may have searched this post, the rattle turned out to be a problem with the steering rack.
  3. Its making me laugh just thinking about it, simlar story for me pulled an automatic off the drive for my old man, 18 years old. It was my first auto drive and he says whatever you do don't break with your left foot........ well how could a resist such a temptation! So pulling out and turning round I promptly used my left foot and smacked my head on the roof of the car, it hurt like a bitch! (That will teach me for not putting on the seat belt). To then top it off it being auto it promptly started off again and I was either dazed or stupid because I promptly did the samething again to much swearing and head rubbing. I got out the car to see my old man p*ss*ng himself laughing, happy memories. I can't wait till may son is old enough to drive
  4. Good stuff, I'm keen to see what can be done to spruce my Z up a little from standard and meet some members. Given my poor grasp of mechanics this will involve spending money, which is why I'm leaving the wife at home
  5. I can only make one day of this event, any offers on which would be best to attend. I was thinking saturday on the basis that most people will be there that day?
  6. I only hope that if your in my neck of the woods that your recive the highest level of respect and service if you ever need it. If not let me know and I'll do my best to assist.
  7. Ah now that is a diffrent matter, the officer is required to treat you with respect and anwser your questions while being as helpful as possible. On this note you have a right to complain, the police are here to deliver a service and as such we are expected to meet certain standards. You would be justifed to complain to the force about the officers conduct and attitude and I would encourage you to do so. Police who fail to meet basic stanards of curtosy and customer service have no business in todays police force.
  8. good old super nintendos as I like to call them
  9. Ok, I guess were talking about performance related pay here, not something I'm entitled to as civilian staff but I'll ask the traffic boys if you can get it by nabbing lots of slightly dodgy plates. I suspect not but I'll check for you after all were accountable to the public Like many topics this is far from simple and could turn into very long debate best taken up at an event over a cool beer and a plate of chips, I'm going to zedfest on the 20th hding round the back somewhere I'll explain why I'm right about my first post, I love a good debate Clearly I can't explain all the laws because some of them are bonkers
  10. I've had quick dig through the Police Natonal Legal Database and basically I cannot see a width requirment for the plate so I think Chesterfield is pretty much spot on. You can have a shorter plate if you have less than the standard number of charicters, as long as its still a legal plate IE not home modified. In general officers will not know the full legal requirement for everything they encounter it would be like trying to learn wikipedia, its just not possible. Traffic officers will have more specific information. In this case the following is relevent: S432 / Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 Summary and Index 2 Registration marks / plates - general interpretation 3 Exempt vehicles 4 Interpretation of regulations 4 -11 5 Fixing of rear reg plates on or after the relevant date 6 Fixing of front reg plates on vehicles registered on or after the relevant date 7 Fixing of reg plates on vehicles registered on or after the relevant date 8 Fixing of reg plates on works trucks, road rollers and agricultural machines 9 Lighting of rear registration plates 10 Specifications for registration plates 11 Further requirements for registration plates 12 Registration marks - interpretation of regulations 12 -15 13 Registration marks - layout 14 Size and spacing of characters 14A Size and spacing of characters - special cases 15 Style of characters 16 International distinguishing signs and other material 18 Savings for vehicles constructed before 1st January 1973 19 Offences Schedule 2 - requirements for registration plates Schedule 3 - permitted layouts of registration marks but this in its self is several pages long, the relevent sections being picked up by Chesterfield. I can post if requried but you'll all be asleep before you get to the end, you can ask to see the guidance that an officer is refering to but unless they have mobile data terminals, you'll be popping along to the closest station to see the info. In general police are pretty reasonable if your plate can be read and have its picture taken. The reason they challenge this use is not because they want to target drivers who like a show type plate but because these are exaclty the tactics that drug dealers, human trafficers, terrorist groups and a whole host of other seriously undesirable types use to avoid detection from systems like ANPR. Perhaps this will help some understand the reasons behind police stops or maybe they think that serious criminals should also be let off? Its not about making money from fines its about protecting people. Sorry I'll get down off my box now

  14. I'm not far from Sunny Scunny although I'm not over there often because I'm too tight to pay for the bridge
  15. Ok, so the rattle which has had all the mechanics I can find confused and looking for hairline fractures in wishbones (thanks nissan.....) has now been tracked to the steering rack, they are 100% sure that it might possibly, maybe, almost certainly be the problem.....they think They have said that a new rack will be £800 plus fitting but they could send the current one back to the factory and have it reconditioned for £200 which may or may not fix the rattling which is driving me a bit mad. So has anyone had a rattling steering rack when going over bumps and has anyone had one reconditioned? If so what was the outcome? I was also thinking of going to modified live 4 but I'm too ashamed to arrive at my first ever event with a stock rattling z
  16. As above, I over took this 10 plate 370 on my way to work looked nice in my rear view mirror and noted pull off into the BP about 50 meters before I pulled off inot the Shell. I guess the fuel economy is no better.
  17. This is an unusual case, I work for the police although I'm a civilian and not an officer as such. Its best to avoid mentioning that your associated with the job as you remove any chance of being let off. Basically we cannot be seen to favour our own so you get the fully monty of punishment and then a second round of grilling for bringing the force into disrepute, after all we should know better given our occupation Head down, apologise and admit guilt its your best chance I agree with the other comments about location, there is national guidance on the offences but forces can chose to enforce stricter policy’s such as in wales.
  18. I have a worrying noise when driving over an uneven surface which most of our roads are at the moment. It sounds like a something is loose and if travelling over a consistantly uneven surface then very much like going over a cattle grid. Its quite loud After straining my hearing I have identifted that it only really occures when the front left wheel is on an uneven surface. I've had it looked at but there is nothing obvious and they are pointing towards the steering rack. It tends to stop making the noise under breaking. Having said that the car handles as normal. If anyone has had simalar issue and could point me in the right direction that would be great.
  19. I live in the Hull area and hopefully there is a piccy attached. Thanks for all the info so far most useful, I must say your a very friendly group My Z has the GT pack so it looks like I'm destined for IPOD horror I suspect I might settle for burning a few CD's in the short term PS ignore my messy garden, I'd rather be out in my new toy
