  1. The externals are simply a normal drive in a caddy so reliability will be the same. Only advise I will give you is always disconnect it from the computer correctly (clicking the little arrow thing down by the clock and removing it) and also leave it a few seconds before picking it up or moving it etc so that the disc has stopped spinning. If you don't then it doesn't really matter what make it is, it can scratch the disc and you can wave bye bye to your stuff.

Western Digital is a good make though, and looks to be a good price. Where is it from?

As maz0 has said the spin speed and cache aren't as important with external drives as the bottle neck isn't the hard drive if it's being connected via USB

  2. Why not install an obvious video camera outside your house looking down on the car? (Is that legal if the car is on the street rather than a driveway?). Cost of the camera would easily cover the potential cost of any damage plus it would put anyone else off looking around the car.

If it's going to be recording public areas it's illegal as it's classed as an invasion of privacy :( Even if it's the smallest little corner of the camera

Not entirely sure on how it works out if it's a driveway, believe you need to have a sign up saying the area is covered by CCTV

  3. That'll give you a wire to the extended location but to put anything else into it you'll need a coupler as that's gonna give you male ends and you'll need female ends for the new equipment to plug in (all equipment will be male ends, the equipment you plug it into is always female)

    This'll work for coupluing them

  4. if i was to get a "W" lead so it has a single start but finishes with a red, white and yellow connector do i need to use all the connectors,

am i right in thinking that red and white connectors are for audio and yellow is for video.

if i used 1 for video in and another for video out, it should mean i'm prepped for any situation and also cut down on the risk of interference as it will be just the one cable instead of piggy backing cables together.

You would need 2 W leads and they'd provide absolutely no gain over a normal m-f RCA lead, infact could even be worse.

Your rite in thinking that Red and White are normally audio and Yellow is video but any RCA can be used for any task. They are all wired the same inside. The colours are just to instantly make it obvious what they are for. They could just as easily be numbers 1,2,3 because all the colours really allow you to do is plug one end into the device and not have to follow the wire all the way down to ensure you put the other end in the correct palce.

  5. Sorry to hear about this mate

Having re-looked at the pics my opinion is that something has gone from back to front scratching it and that's why the wing has been bent out. The scratch get's worse as it get's towards the wing so it's quite probably something like a lorry reversing? It's definately a pointed thing (like a lorry's light bar thing) so wouldn't have thought a tow bar or bull bar's or anything like that.

If it was a lorry it's quite possible that the driver hadn't noticed as from what I've heard lorries are pretty bad for hearing / feeling impacts

  6. I use logmein for my home PC, initially installed it to get access to file etc as I have an FTP server at home but only put files in there when I want to gain access to them. It does also allow me to go onto anything I want during the working day, however I'm part of the network team and as such I'm the one that monitors the internet activity. Like others have said though, even if you have un-restricted access, still doesn't mean they wouldn't use your usage against you if they wanted to get rid

  7. Here they are, sorry they are a bit late, totally forgot yesterday when I got in from work:

iPod as the source (you'll notice the album art and the track, album and artist names are displayed):

I've installed the bluetooth module and the ipod lead to the cubby in the centre console:

The warning sticker on the iPod lead is a bit concerning:

(Incase ya can't read it, it says that Handling the lead will expose you to chemicals listed on proposition 63 known to the state of California to cause Cancer :o)

  8. I do feel sorry for peeps that are

    stuck abroad

and don't have any way of getting home

anytime soon or if your money is running out but feel so angry how the news once again is blowing everything out of proportion!

How come they have reporters flewn in to all these places when there is supposed to be a flight ban? Does is only effect jets ?

Now they are talking about closing schools as some teachers are abroad? FFS !! I have a name for those schools head teachers - work shy fopps!! Surely you can get supply teachers in at short notice ? Doh!

If the reported flew out before the flights were cancelled from their respective country apparently it's not causing too much disruption to Iceland apart from the immediate area as the ash is all going up then heading across to europe :(

Schools closing is a bit of a joke. I work in one and you can easily get supply teachers. It'll cost the schools a fair amount if they have a few teachers but if it's just 1 or 2 most schools now have a permanent cover teacher at the school as there's always one of the teachers off for some reason or other

  9. Hi

As title states can anyone recommend an MOT Station in Stoke/Crewe area?

My mate has advised me trying a council run station as they are less likely to try and find something wrong as they don't do the repairs themselves

Also, can anyone advise whether a Japspeed K1 system has any chance of failing an MOT due to noise?

    Cheers for any help

  10. Bloody hell glad he is ok :) anyway what made me laugh  was he was still trying to stear when he had no wheels on :lol::lol: just tickled me :bounce:

    Ste .

I noticed that too, must just be instinct of a racing driver to try and steer into the skid, wouldn't have made any difference though without wheels

    Interview with Buemi afterwards

"I've never seen this before and if you look at the on board I keep the steering wheel in my hand but it didn't really help"

  11. Yeah, have had a quick look around this morning between calls at work and it seems that Megs have brought out a Scratch X2 which is meant to be the next stage after Scratch X. If Scratch X doesn't shift the scratch they advise using the Scratch X2, but I'm thinking that might be ill-advised on the 350z

So I can feel secure that Scratch X should be fine to use on the 350z, that's sommat at least. It's mainly for swirl's, I do have a couple of scratchs I'd like to get out, but I don't think anything other than a proper repair will get them sorted :(

  12. Which part are you talking about? If it's the bluetooth then you need the part with code cd-btb200 which I found on ebay for around £100 (but I needed it same day so I brought it locally for a little over £120). If it's the iPod then it's just a lead which is about £20 - £30 (Part Number CD-IU200V) but the stereo does have a USB lead at the back which you can use a normal iPod lead with apparently but it might not give you all the same functionality so for the price I just decided to get the dedicated lead.

I dunno how much you've found it for but I brought mine from RoadRadio (link to exact headunit)and it's currently listed at £428.92 without the Bluetooth and iPod lead

As for the fascia I brought this one from Sextons but didn't find the fit great but this was more down to the stereo i think than the fascia etc. Anyway, ended up getting one from a local company who I am almost certain ordered the autoleads one and that seems to fit great. This one is also available at Sextons from what I can see here but can't be sure this is the same one that I got.

Any other questions don't hesitate to ask, or if ya want pics of it etc

  13. I was just wondering if this is safe to use on the Z? I've read loads of people saying the paint is too soft to use much stuff on it and wanted to check whether this would be ok to use on the Z and if so what sort of results I can expect?

Brought it when I had a previous car but never got round to trying it so I am just wondering what it's like and whether it's too abrasive to use on the Z's soft paint finish?

  14. oh and while im here had anyone got the headunit in question... if so what do you think of it?

I've recently had this and installed it myself. It's a great headunit. I have got the iPod cable and the Bluetooth module (worth noting you can't retain the factory bluetooth if you remove the bose) and it all seems to work great :) Any questions about the unit don't hesitate to ask
