    JDM battery

Most people simply replace the OEM battery for an Optima Yellow Top D35... which holds great charge and supports quite a bit of abuse in the form of many electronics working even if the car has not been started. I took a different route at some point in the past -but keep in mind this is not a deep cycle battery and *will* die if you use it to anything other to start the car:
  2. Interested in non-flip version Any pictures yet?
  3. I would not feel aggravated at all by Clarkson's comments... as pointed out, he has an "assumed" hatred for Datsuns and has to play the part. I love watching Top Gear though, it is extremely entertaining (and believe it or not, we can watch it here in Costa Rica!)
  4. I got this a couple years ago from eBay... collector's edition and only the 'chassis' seems to be die-cast, the rest is some sort of resin: Scale... I do not know, but it is quite small actually...
  5. Thanks! Got it locally here in Costa Rica, so my price references would be all distorted by our taxes, or as you say... rubbish I know that in the US the HU goes for US$800, the rear cam kit is worth US$170 and the iPod cable $35. You will also need an interface worth US$60 and the Metra kit (best fit I found) is US$15. So, about $1,080 before shipping.
  6. Made it myself in Photoshop to the exacting specs of Eclipse... you make the file with very specific measures and color scheme and then burn it on a CD-R along with a text file. The HU recognizes the text file and then loads the image file to substitute whatever you have on as splash screen. Interestingly enough, depending on who you ask, this cannot be done Several people asked Eclipse directly and they were turned back, but someone from the NASIOC forums asked Eclipse as well and they even sent him a sample file to play with! The mysteries of Customer Service never cease to amaze!
  7. One thing about spiders is that size does not matter when it comes to how dangerous they are... Take this one here as an example: Does not look like much and it is quite similar to the one the OP showed us, probably about the same size... although I am pretty sure it is not one of these. Do a search for Brown Recluse Spider on Google... just do not do it after or while eating, you might suddenly lose something
  8. Hi everyone... just wanted to share a little bit of a change I made to the Z... Just a few days ago I took the decision to get rid of the Bose HU -which is actually a Clarion unit and I had not realized!- and started looking into something I had always wanted: an Eclipse HU. The relatively new models for America are the AVN726E and the AVN4430. I chose the 726E and a coworker got the 4430 for his SUV. Both have more than enough features to be atractive and the only thing that does not really work and probably will not work anytime soon was the GPS, as there are no Costa Rica maps available for either HU. Anyway, out of the *first* install, the unit looked like this (please note the horrible gap on all borders as the trim kit was unavailable at the time of install): After the *second* install the HU looked like this (now there is no gap and only the CF console cover is a bit out of place, which I will correct with a bit of double-sided tape): What cannot be seen on the pics is that there was a loose wire on the first install and was causing a hissing sound that resulted quite annoying. The sound after correcting that is really good and certainly better than the old good Bose but with the pre-amp the stock speakers are working harder and will probably need replacement soon enough. And that even though I do not like to listen to audio at really high volume. There will be a *third* install I think, as the first one was done with a standard PAC OEM-1 harness and it should have been the PAC ROEM-NIS2 which I have been informed keeps functionality of the stock subwoofer and provides a cleaner install. Since every wire is now tagged and the console has been taken apart 2 times already, why not a third? Best Regards!
  9. Just my opinion, but I would not risk towing anything with the zed... even with all the torque we have available I would be unnerved...
  10. I am afraid that the answer is no... there are a few reasonable ones currently, and there is a good one near completion. But daily driving (which I do) is murder. I am looking for a daily driver so I can declare the Z officially a project car, and it is going to be some sort of SUV or pick-up truck The hose is probably just a bit short of the 2 meters, to allow for comfortable routing. For a time it did put one up for a cylinder misfire, but that happened to be unrelated to the tune. I think that no CEL should be up if the tune is good. I have read that some Z may produce CEL's for conflicts with the ECU mostly about the EVAP canister and oxigen sensors. The latest dyno sheet I have is this one, which was right after the tune -very conservative tune, by the way-: I think I could download the map from the car (once I get it back from the shop later this week), send me your e-mail and I will send it to you. I am kind of keeping them as backup plan, should something fail with the Alliance ones.
  11. Thanks, Cap'n Heredia, which is like 20 minutes away from downtown San Jose... pretty much on the way to the International Airport which in turn is in Alajuela... the country is so little that you can go through 3 provinces in less than half an hour
  12. That spider is really nothing remarkable in terms of size... but I guess I am used to see big tropical spiders in my own garden now and then
  13. Gracias por la bienvenida en mi lenguaje nativo, ATTAK Z
  14. Thank you for the pointer, Ian! This is a great site!
  15. Thank you all for the warm welcome! Indeed, the mod bug has been relentless
  16. Good day, Everyone! Just a new guy from across the Atlantic (and then go a bit South) = Costa Rica My Z is a Grand Touring '05 with some modifications and soon to be supercharged with Vortech V3. A pic of it (I took this one before brake and suspension upgrades): Here's a link to my 'car blog' where you can check out more details: http://charlie-cr.smugmug.com/Hobbies/C ... 7537_gZdH7 Glad to be around and looking forward to learn more and help whenever I can! Have a Good One! Carlos Ch.
